I dont watch awards show much, but the Junos, always give a good nod to the Alternative artists out there.
If you dont know the Junos are Canada's music Awards
www.junoawards.ca (http://www.junoawards.ca)
So post your thoughts on the choice, agree or not, or post your thoughts of not giving a damn.
God damn do I hope Ladyhawk or Black Mountain get nominated next year. -JC

Did they actually say 'Holy Fuck' on air when they were announcing the nominations? That would be pretty damn cool.
-
Ya, but the station I was watching Bleeped it.
-
Eh, for a mainstream award show I would really have thought The National would have won, since it is both TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME and has good solid mainstream appeal as well.
-
Neon Bible is a good album, not wholly convinced about the Wintersleep one just yet, and the other two I'm yet to hear more than snippets of.

Are you talking about the band The National, or the TV show (http://www.cbc.ca/national/). Only one of those is Canadian.
It's pretty awesome that Holy Fuck were nominated. It is also silly that Wintersleep won Best New Group because they are not new.

To chizzle: Dude, as a hint, read the rules. Images in your sig aren't allowed.

Oh, whoops. I didn't realize the Junos were for Canadian-only bands.
Never mind then.

No surprise that Neon Bible won that, considering the Junos are decided entirely by record sales. I dig the Holy Fuck album, but there's no way it's good enough to be winning any awards.
I'd second the Ladyhawk/Black Mountain notion - those are some good records. Again though, there's no way they'd be winning a Juno - there's always some sort of Neon Bible in the category which just trumps everything else in record sales, thus winning the award.

But see, it's funny because women like jewelry and are only good for sex!

I don't think The Con should have been nominated, there were a lot more better Canadian albums that came out last year. Album's like Random Spirit Lover are more deserving of a nomination.
I loved the other three albums, I spent most of the year listening to the them but in terms of artistic and commercial merit no album deserved the award more than Neon Bible
-
See I really liked The Con, and out of the four albums there it's definitely my favourite.
-
E enjoyed the Wintersleep album a lot more than the too-sterile Arcade Fire release (although I did like Neon Bible despite its many flaws). I second that Sunset Rubdown's newest deserved a nomination. The Holy Fuck LP is a lot of fun but nothing special really. Not 'Alternative Album of the Year' material anyway. The Con was pretty OK. Overall not an excellent list of nominees as far as I can tell. My nod would still have gone to Wintersleep.
-
i actually hallucinated the first time i heard Holy Fuck's LP.
ding ding ding we have a winner.
EDIT:
The Holy Fuck LP is a lot of fun but nothing special really.
you are obviously not stoned enough.
-
I'm glad Neon Bible won. As good as Holy Fuck is, Neon Bible just struck a spot in me that very few albums last year did.
-
The thing is though, I always listen to Keep the Car Running and I think, "Has anyone done a mashup with On the Dark Side yet using this song?"

The last album to win this award that deserved it hands-down was "You Forgot it in People." Since then it's been highly debatable. Feist winning with 'Let it Die' over Arcade Fire's 'Funeral' in 2005 was, for example, a total travesty.
