Title: The Voodoo Organist - DECIDE MY FATE
Post by: Jackie Blue on 21 Apr 2008, 17:09
The Voodoo Organist is playing tonight for $5.  I could go.  I could also stay home and get stoned and listen to Acid Mothers Temple.  I've seen him before, but it was before he had a band.

TELL ME WHAT TO DO, OH MIGHTY FORUMITES.  I have until about 9:30 EST to make up my mind.

(Also, if you've never heard of him, listen to him.  He is awesome.  If I do go and get a CD, that shit is so Mediaf1red.)

Could you not go see him, go home and then get stoned and listen to Acid Mothers Temple? That sounds like the proper way to follow up someone called The Voodoo Organist anyway.

That sounds like it'd be a pretty sweet night.

The only good reason I have for not going is that I haven't lived in this town in 10 years (I'm not staying in Knoxville tonight) and last time I went to town - it's a town of about 50,000 rednecks and 50 aging punk/goth people - I was depressed by seeing old friends who hadn't changed a single bit.  I'm not good at reunions, and I know everyone I knew will end up being there.

Hmm.  So, any and all fun to be had would be negated by awkward situations?

I think you should see him. Wouldn't a live gig be more exciting or lively than staying home? Other than that he has got a cool name.

I was also gonna say something about being sociable and socialising but that previous post adds a totally different dimension.

It is possible, yes.  I could not talk to anybody, but then they'd think I was being a snob.

I suppose there is a slim chance that new people are in "the scene" and I could socialise with them, but I am so not betting on that being the case.

Seriously thiis town is "All My Friends" personified.

Based on that I say stay home, nothing more depressing than that moment of "damn, you're still living like that?" (well alright, loads of things are, but you know what I mean). Get some snacks on the go and get yourself baked instead.

I would have to be really friggin' stoned to try eating anything that involves the term "unboiled ramen".   :|

It's actually pretty good raw. I say go to the show. Do you have anyone that you do like who'd go with you? It'd give you an excuse not to talk to anyone else.

Well, I reckon I'm on my way.  One person I know will almost definitely be there is really cool, so I can try to stick around him.  Haven't seen him since the Butthole Surfers show in '02 or so.

originally I voted 'stay', because AMT and weed is always good times, but this is probably the best idea.

Well, I just got back.  The opening act was a dude with a Mac who made awesome IDM/DnB music.  The second band was a freaky gypsy waltz/punk band.  The whole time before anyone played I was talking to Mr. Organist himself, he is insanely nice and knows a lot about good music.

I even saw some old friends that didn't depress me!

However, due to circumstances having nothing to do with the show, I am now insanely fucking depressed.

Yay.
