We could always treat it like like Jeph's Christmas do-it-yourself colouring projects. See comic #1042 for an example. This thread:

shows what people did with it.

It is possible that people back in the day did colouring projects too. However, finding them if they exist I leave as an exercise for the student.

wow it's weird to see that strip in color. Geez Marten's hair made him look like a dork back than.... seriously.

Wow, that's really good! Indistinguishable from the canonical colour-work of the time.

Thanks! I just lifted all the colors from #148 and BSed the shading.

I'm sure someone else can do something much more creative with it.  :-)
