Guys I don't know about this whole Narrow Stairs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrow_Stairs) thing.
-
I've got it actually, the real album. It's pretty good. I've only listened to the whole thing twice, so I still haven't fully wrapped my head around all of it yet, but I like it.
It's different. It's very, very different. At some parts, it almost borders on drone/trance. There's an almost 9 minute long song, which is unprecedented for these guys. I'm sure I'll come to love it more as I listen to it more, but I doubt it'll usurp Transatlanticism as my favorite Death Cab album.
-
Didn't Death Cab do a 12 minute long track a little while back?
Seriously, though:
It's really weird.
we've got a ten minute long Can jam
We were influenced by] heavy, sludgy, slow metal

this has the potential to be quite interesting! My DFCF fandom lasted about two months before I put them and most over indie bands on the "bands I liked for a short time but now thoroughly dislike and/or regret" pile, but I may have to check this out.

death cab for cutie doing epic jam sessions?
that can't possibly be any good.
-
Sure, but it's better then them writing featureless 4 minute long pop tunes.

Hey, long jams are better then songs. I completely agree with that.
-
Again, fuck all of you. Death Cab is simple, but brilliant.
-
Surely you could concede that a bit more dynamics from them would be good, though? I wouldn't exactly call Plans an exciting record.
-
You can't exactly call it bad though. It's just kinda meh
-
Exciting? No.
Affecting? On certain songs, yes.
-
"I Will Follow You into the Dark" is pretty much the only reason I still listen to Plans. The album as a whole was always a step backward from Transatlanticism for me. The single from Narrow Stairs ("I Will Possess Your Heart") has me very excited, though. I got less excited after hearing a few more new songs, which seemed like more of the same old stuff, but here's hoping there's more surprises to be had anyway.
-
I can't wait to hell of listen to this album. Most likely their cited changes of style will probably mean that they'll sound more like The Dismemberment Plan now. Whatever, I can live with that. I very much think that Death Cab have it in themselves to rock the fuck out (Fake Frowns? The New Year? Awesome rock!) and I will be expecting a stellar album.
-
Transatlanticism had two or three good songs, but I would hardly call it their best album.
-
This is that band from the O.C. right?
-
Death Cab is really hit or miss with me. I listened to Plans and only about 4 songs really made me go "Hey, that's alright!"
The new single really annoyed the hell out of me, though, and it's making me definitely doubt the album. Yeah, Gibbard, we get it. I'm gonna have to take some time. Unfortunately, the time I took to listen to you spout that line at me 80 fucking times kind of turned me off to the notion.
-
This is that band from the O.C. right?
Seattle area I believe. Or do you mean on 'The O.C.' because that is highly likely.
-
Perhaps michaelicious meant the TV show. Lots of "indie" bands were played during the duration of that show.
It is more than likely Death Cab was played at least during one episode of The O.C.

JINX!
-
Oh fuck I read your post as "highly unlikely"
Plus I thought you meant the actual O.C., as in the county, because you suggested a location beforehand and assumed you just talking about location.
Though I guess I owe you a coke now. Fuck you one am.
-
Internet forgiven, no coke owage I said your name right after I posted JINX.
To actually add something of value, I really like the single, while I may get tired of it yet at the moment it's pretty decent. Also, I like DCFC tons, they make some good musics.

The end of "We Looked Like Giants" was somewhat of a jam. That's a good track.
-
I really cant wait to get hold of it.
I was quite dissapointed with "Plans" to be honest, as someone said before "I will follow you into the dark" was the only reason I listened to it more than twice, other than that and "Marching bands of Manhatten" the album is pretty dull.
Narrow stairs should be good though, unless they piss about with the format too much.
You should check out the daytrotter session they did, couple of tracks from Narrow Stairs and some classics (The New year <3)

I'm really a big fan of the old stuff, "We have the facts..." and "Transatlanticism" are my favourite albums.
Also going to see them this summer in Manchester
^^
-
lul wut.
Seriously, "Your Heart is an Empty Room", "What Sarah Said" and "Brothers On a Hotel Bed" are all lush, full, emotionally rich, beautiful tracks.
-
^^^ They are also very boring (except the jammy part of "What Sarah Said," that's all right.
And oh yeah, I forgot about "Marching Bands of Manhatten." It seems so much like a Transatlanticism track that I thought it was on Transatlanticism.
P.S.: The real Narrow Stairs is in the Mediafire thread right now. Move it or lose it.
-
Moved.
I will roll this shit once I'm done listening to this Shipping News track.
-

I completely agree.
No you bastards!
I was going to wiat till it came out,
don't tempt me with downloads!!

The second one. I was just trying to make a joke. I guess I shouldn't do that anymore.
-
According to the internets, jokes are no longer funny
-
First Listen:
Underwhelming. There were some good songs on this album, but it wasn't as spazzy or rocking as I was hoping it to be. I'm sure it'll grow on me eventually, but it wasn't really as gripping.
-
I'm kind of of the same opinion. I liked the first few tracks, then "Cath..." and "Talking Bird" killed the groove for me and it never fully recovered. "Grapevine Fires" and "Long Division" are pretty cool, though.
-
Surely you could concede that a bit more dynamics from them would be good, though? I wouldn't exactly call Plans an exciting record.
If I was after dynamics I'd listen to Spiderland.
-

Ohhhh. This explains why I've never heard that song. A couple of people I know are especially fond of this Death Cab track, but by the time Plans came out I was kind of losing interest in the band, and then a lot of people said it was shitty, so I never bothered to listen to it.
-
It's a really good song,
just overplayed.
You should check out the older stuff

Oh, not extreme dynamics. Just.. dynamics. Not constantly stuck in 'piano' or whatever the little p means in music theory. Some sort of break in the monotony.
