Title: My Bands EP for Free.
Post by: TheoristB on 05 May 2008, 13:53
Hey guys,

A year or so ago my band put out a record. We have decided to give away a download of it for free. My band is Inspector Owl. The EP is 6 songs long. If you are interested in downloading it go to...
http://www.inspectorowl.com/album-download.php

You can preview all of the songs before you download it. To download it just enter your email address in to the form and hit the submit button. You should get an email with a link pretty quickly.

We decided to do the free download as a way to promote our up coming tour. I think this could be interesting. We are tying the free download in with facebook and google ads.

If you are interested in catching us on tour you can catch us in these places.

May 29th - Dekalb, IL - The House Cafe
May 30th - Ann Arbor, MI - The Mandatorium
May 31st - Columbus, OH - Cafe Bourbon St
June 1st - Washington, DC - The Red and Black
June 3rd - Montpelier, VT - The Langdon Street Cafe
June 4th - Hamden, CT - The Space
June 5th - New York, NY - Pianos
June 6th - shland, KY - The Ashland Plaza Hotel
June 7th - Athens, OH - Lobsterfest

Enjoy!

There's kind of already a thread for this here. (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,18093.0.html)

But that's still pretty cool news.

Hey, it's alright.  Johnny did the same thing with the Polymaths EP.  I already emailed for a copy.

EDIT - Thank you!  This is most excellent!

I think it's pretty legit to make your own thread if your handing out EP's. I'll be sure to give this a download once I get onto my other computer again.

Also, way to play at a 21+ venue in DC. Now I can't go see your band play.

I posted in that thread from time to time.  I figured since this is us giving away a record for free and not sharing demos or whatever it might deserve its own thread.

Anyway, hopefully you guys will enjoy it.

Also, sorry about the 21 plus DC show, I only know 21 plus venues in DC.  Who does all ages, I will try them next time we come through.

Everybody would rather live somewhere else? A big part of the problem is that most bands either live in the US because of its sheer size, or most bands play in the US.

No Deal, I can only live in port cities or I will die from being separated from the ocean. Although, my cousin would hate me for ever If I got to live in Boston and she didn't.

I can't help but notice how much you sound like Win Butler pre-arcade fire ep.

I get that a lot.  I think it is just that I have kind of a non traditional sounding voice, I used to sometimes get Robert Smith and Issac Brok

Re: Wanting to live somewhere else... It seems like most of the bands I've grown interested in seeing recently spend their spring/summer tours in Canada or Europe, which means I don't get to see them while I'm home in Austin (where they're somewhat likely to come through on a US tour). And then, of course, during fall/winter I'm in the middle of godforsaken Utah for school, and just about nobody comes to Utah even on full US tours.

Most of the bands I like are British and rarely come over to the US and if they do, it is a pretty limited tour so I often miss them.  I am going to Pitchfork this summer just so that I can see Jarvis Cocker.  I am not much of a festivals person, I don't like the sun and I don't do to well with large crowds of people.  So yeah, I wish I lived in England.

I just downloaded. Brilliant, brilliant. I need some softer and smoother music than my wintertime-metal now that it's summer, and this fits perfectly into what I like.

Ugh, Isaac Brock is a shit vocalist. I think I much prefer your voice.

You don't yelp, Brock yelps rather than sings most of the time. I don't mind but we seriously don't need people to try and emulate his "style".

Buffalo Grove area.

I like the techno-ish ambience that backs up the music.

Cool, I work in Northbrook.  I think later this summer we are going to do an all ages show in McHenry.  Keep an eye on our website.

Yes, they do have one or two other releases as you can see by looking up their discography/music on their site though it isn't going for free.

Hey, I'm impressed.  In fact, I'm sticking an 8/10 on this for the EP/Compilation section of my music journal this year, which puts you just ahead of Andrew Bird and Muse. ;)

As for voice comparisons, you remind me of Gavin Hayes of Dredg, which is a good thing.

I would also recommend their Patterns of Nerve Cell Reaction EP and if you can get your hands on the split with Where's Jimmy K At?, well, shucks, great!

Alright.

Upon a close listen and a good scrutiny, I will pass the album as...

Good.  I like it, keep this up, and continue putting fans before the sale of the product, and you will justify your status as a new favorite band of mine, good sir.

Now, come to Hawaii.  I'm sure you wouldn't mind too terribly.

Andrew Bird and Muse?  Awww you make me blush.  Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the EP.

I would love to come to hawaii.  Perhaps someday.

As far as the free music goes, I would rather people have the music, than not have it at all so giving it away for free is a good way to get our music out to more people.  So far it actually has worked out okay.  Thanks!
