I realize this isn't something most hardcore gamer are interested in, but I didn't know if people would get their undies in a bunch or not if I posted it elsewhere. Anyway...
Has anyone picked this up yet? Thoughts?
I just got this last night and stayed up until 2am playing/exercising. I really really like the ski jump, and the running. I absolutely love yoga. Its so much fun.
I think its pretty great that it rewards you for working out by give you more games...er..work outs.

Wii Fit is awesome! I love hula hooping, boxing and stepping. The marble game is very fun, but doesn't feel like a workout at all -then again it is not supposed to since it is merely a balance game. Of course, if you bend your knees the whole time, it's another story for your thighs!
I don't like the running on the spot very much because it feels awkward. And I still can't do a pushup properly, but I will work on it!

I just picked the game up on Saturday and I can already tell this game is going to sell better than Halo 3 and GTA 4 put together. The games are fairly simple but they're actually fun to play and a decent workout even for psychotic DDR freaks, mostly the strength training and balance games. The running game would've been better if you could outrun your pacer and more modes and player options would be nice but this game may only be the beginning of Nintendo's End Laziness Campaign.

If a dog runs in front of you and your guide, you can run ahead of the guide to follow the dog. I think the dog runs a slight bit faster than the guide. And it takes you on different paths.

My thoughts? I don't need a $200 console and a $90 chunk of plastic to get exercise. That's what outside is for.
-
Someone on another board commented that people who purchase this, "need to get off their lazy asses, and go outside."
While, I can agree with that to a certain degree, there is no need to get negative about something that is getting people to exercise. Exercising is good no matter how you get it. If a video game is getting people up, and making them actually use their bodies, I don't see how it could be bad.
That said, I enjoy working out without the aid of wii fit. I am planning on buying a bike tomorrow or the next day, so I can waste time biking. The bike will be more expensive than wii fit, but cheaper than a gym membership.
And to the people who say that people need to just go to the gym instead of being lazy bastards and buying the wii fit. How much would a gym membership + a yoga trainer + a boxing coach + skis + a place to ski cost you? I guarantee wii fit is cheaper.

*whiny* But I haaate outsiiiide!
(No, really. It's hot and there are bears.)

I've got nothing against the game, but you don't even need a gym membership. Wii fit is entirely bodyweight exercises - which means you could do all of the same things for free.
-
But doing it with the wii fit is more fun.

I'm going to have to agree with Emaline here - there is absolutely nothing wrong with a video game that gets people up and moving who are otherwise going to be sitting on the couch. I am speaking from a place of experience - I totally hate exercise as a general rule. I am allergic to the entire outdoors from spring to fall (and winter is too cold - I hate being cold); I choose not to spend $60-100 a month for a gym membership because I hate going to the gym and would rather buy books; I am a natural nerd and couch potato - I would WAY rather watch TV or movies or read than go do anything exercise-like. I do not like to sweat, and I do not like to get out of breath. That said, I also do not like being unhealthy and fat, either, and I really enjoy the "next generation" video games (starting with DDR, taking me through Guitar Hero and my DS and to my Wii). I got my Wii entirely because I read a press release last fall about the release of Wii Fit in Japan and knew that it would be release in the US before too long. And I grabbed a Wii Fit first thing last week when it came out, and I can't stop playing with it. I am totally sweating and out of breath and sore in all kinds of muscles and for the first time in my life, I like it. So yes - I could have saved myself $90 by doing all of these exercises on my own. But I never would have actuallly DONE them without Wii Fit, and there is the value. I'm sure it's not for everyone (nothing ever is), but don't discount the fact that it IS great for some people.

That was actually a beautiful post. Holy shit. I was going to say something snarky but... wow.
-
has anyone actually lost any weight? I'm a slightyly overweight guy and I was interested in wii fit but I dont know if it actually even works. so what results have you seen? any weight loss?
-
Okay, I'm going to burst a couple peoples' perception bubble here:
Wii Fit is not designed to make you lose weight per se. It is designed to make exercise a little bit more fun in a hope that you might get in better shape. Do not buy it if your prime hope is to lose weight, because it's not going to do it for you.
It's basically the same as any other exercise: a means to more efficiently exercise.

I've actually lost 3.3 lbs, surprisingly. But...

This.
Don't expect to miraculously lose weight after buying wii fit. I've been working out for at least a hour everyday since buying it, plus watching what I eat. On top of that, I've always walked to work, and I'm looking into buying a bike to ride whenever I am not a work. So yeah. Wii fit is basically just a means to time my working out, and weight myself, as well teach me some yoga moves that I am otherwise to lazy too seek out.
But it's fun. I really enjoy it, and I'm glad I bought it. Without it, I doubt I would have convinced myself to exercise as much as I do.

I think Wii Fit is a cool idea that fits in perfectly with the general mission of the Wii, and I think 'hardcore' gamers bitching and moaning about it and how it's 'killing' gaming are fucking babies that need to get over themselves. There's absolutely no reason that traditional games and casual games can't occupy the same marketplace, or that enjoying one immediately excludes enjoying the other. That being said, I'm not particularly interested in Wii Fit specifically, and I find the 90 dollar price tag too high for a 'what the hell' sort of purchase. Still, I think it's great that Nintendo is still pushing the boundaries of gaming, so I approve of the product even if I won't necessarily purchase it myself.

No, really. It's hot and there are bears.
I know, right!? Freaking bears.

BEEEEAARS!
I am lazy and am driven to and from work every day. Also, I do not eat a very healthy diet - I mean, there is lots of veggies but there is also lots of cookies. But I have lost some kilos in the last week and a half and the ONLY change has been Wii fit. So there! :)
Also, THIS GUY (http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2008/02/05/the-great-experiment-wiifit/). He is a WiiFit hero! (Well, I think so.)

Wii fit, Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy and SSB make me want a Wii
Wii fit looks like it's a fun change from doing push-ups just for the heck of it and any exercise is good exercise!
Also, Emaline is definitely my favorite forumer but that's not exactly relevant

I'm going to disagree. I know a girl who bought it with the intention of playing it for 30 min a day and see how it goes... she's been doing it for about a week and a half and has lost over 4lbs. so far. It can work. It just depends on how you use it. if you don't push yourself, like anything else, you will yield no results.

I think its like kids and the gummybear vitamins, or the V8 splash juice. They eat/drink that stuff 'cause its fun and they like it, but dont tell them its good for them, oh no.
It a steaping stone, from pretending you are skiing, to renting a pair and trying your mad wii skills in real life.
Hmm, if I get this, i would use it for 15 min before my sprints to limber up.
-
I am looking forward to buying this for sure. Exercise I can do in my jammies in my lounge room that is made fun? It just seems like an excellent idea to me.
Plus maybe it means I will tear myself away form Mario Kart and actually change games once in a while. I love the Wii, and I plan to marry Nintendo one day.

Potentially NSFW, but everyone wears underwear!

I was going to get it for my dad for father's day but I found out he isn't supposed to do cardio since he has such terrible joints so I didn't buy it when I had the chance, now my mom wants it and I can't find it anywhere.
-
HAve your father swim for excersice. Not so brutal on the joints.
-
Swimming is definately my favorite form of excersize, I was on the my high school swim team so I may have a biased opinion though.
-
Unless you train for it like your going into the Olympics, its one of those workouts that dosen't feel like a workout.
