Title: Give me a chance to love you!
Post by: niKarr on 27 May 2008, 08:34
Ok, I've tried to take suggestions from my last attempt (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,20132.0.htm) with a comic and I bring you this

Just wondering if I'm improving with hands and well, what else is gross about this? (although I do know the chairs are vomit already ;D )
Also, not gonna keep spamming this place with updates, just wondering if I'm improving. As always you can check out my deviantart if you want to see more.

Thanks again!

I thought this was very amusing.  Very nice artwork.  The colour and shading make it easy to overlook badly drawn hands.

Though I'm not that good at drawing, the thing that helps me more is posing myself and looking me at a mirror, or in case of hands directly :P

I really wish I had some advice for you, but I am not so hot at drawing hands myself.  I've seen people do a skeleton-type technique with circles and lines and I've seen other people do this "mitten" technique.  My guess is they just come with practice.

The only really weak element in this is the lettering, and I would maybe reconsider the placing of the speech balloons in the first panel.

I would recommend you try hand-lettering, it always looks better.

Last panel is win indeed. And yeah, hands are effin' hard, aren't they? xD I reckon it just takes a lot of practice, and there's books on anatomy too, they probably have a bit on it?
As for some constructive criticism, I think if you made their outlines a little thicker, it'll all be a bit more lively. ^^

Thanks for the love guys. imapiratearg, do you have any suggestions to make my hands better.

Unfortunately, there's only one way to get good at hands: practice, practice and more practice.  If you are really hard-core about it, dedicate an entire sketch pad to hands and draw nothing but them in it.  Sit for an hour or two and draw as many different positions and angles as you can think of.  I guarantee you'll notice improvement.  It's simply a matter of getting that funky shape burned into your brain.

Also, this book (http://www.amazon.com/New-Drawing-Right-Side-Brain/dp/0874774241/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1) helped me a great deal with regard to realistic drawing in general.

Good luck!

Looks great so far, keep up the good work! Can only get better, as someone else said, with practice.

This, very this.

If the rest of your art is good (and it actually is pretty decent), using stock fonts and just typing out your speech will still make it look low quality. Find a style of writing the text that works for you and use it, it'll look way better.

The only thing I would change is the font. Other than that, it's great! Do you have a website yet, or just dA?
