Title: The Hi; I'm into QC, I have a band and we're playing a show thread...
Post by: Chad K. on 09 Jun 2008, 14:30
So, I know there are a TON of musicians that read QC, and have bands, which play shows.  In past threads, we've dicussed whether advertizing those shows here is spammy.  Rather than litter the "Your Own Personal Bands" thread with further such discussions, I thought I'd start a thread dedicated to the topic.  Obviously, if Jeph or the mods feel this is an inappropriate use of this forum, by all means delete or lock this thread with the full knowledge no offense will be taken.  Without further ado-

My band is located in Phoenix, AZ.  We are called the Thankful Birds (http://www.myspace.com/thankfulbirds).  We're playing a 21+ show this Thursday at 9:00 pm at the Last Exit in Tempe with Quarter Inch Crown (http://www.myspace.com/qicquarterinchcrown), Lisa McKay, and DJ D'Strick spinning (http://www.myspace.com/dstrick).  Cover's $5.

Quebec, AZ?

This is a fine topic. Before my tour turned into an abortion I had a topic on it. NO WORRIES!

Yeah, umm... I fixed the "in QC" thing.  I'm actually not in QC.  I'm "into" QC, but not a character, etc.

Show's tonight for all local and in-nerested parties.  And by local, I mean Quebec.

On a side note, are there any Phoenix bands that read QC, or music lovers (I know of two besides me) or bands who are coming through the area?

I'm going to use this thread as a vehicle to plug my brother's pop punk band The Colytons (http://www.myspace.com/colytons) who are leaving on monday to play some shows in NYC with the Queers and Kepi Ghoulie from the Groovie Ghoulies and then moving on to play the Insubordination Festival in Baltimore. They also have a show in Philidelphia and I reckon that anyone who likes this kind of stuff should check them out if at all possible. Because they are fucking rad.

My band, Fritzwicky (http://www.myspace.com/fritzwicky), have a gig lined up this Saturday at the Cue - 277 Brunswick st, Fitzroy (Melbourne). We're the openers, so we're on stage at 8pm (allegedly). This awesome and everybody in the world should come because it's free entry and if you don't like the music there's plenty of pool tables to keep you entertained. We're playing with Adelaide's Delusions of Grandma (http://www.myspace.com/delusionsofgrandma), who do awesome jazz-rock. Check 'em out.

I'm playing Sweet Home Alabama (not my choice, but a fun song to play) tonight at a performance the local guitar shop is putting on. I've just realised that I will have to play standing up, something I never do, so I'm shitting myself over that, especially as the strap keeps falling off. I played last year too, twice, but this is more important as people I know may be going. Any tips? I remember last time the hardest part was getting over how different my guitar sounded through the shop's big amps compared to my tiny Park practice one.

Hopefully I'll get a video of it, and whore myself out over the internet tubes.

The last time I played a gig (with my old band who played a grand total of 4 gigs; 2 of which were in real venues the other 2 in rented community halls) we were missing a guitarist and had a guy we met 5 hours before playing bass for us. We just got drunk before going on.

Basically my advice is getting smashed will solve any gig troubles.

Get a better strap.

Play it standing up every day until the gig.

(And every day thereafter. Standing up > sitting down.)

Well, at the gig I was playing on Saturday I was way uptight on stage, kept fumbling around with my left hand - I think a beer or two would have really loosened me up. Maybe not drunk-drunk, but less... aware? So, sort of QFT, I guess. Apart from my fumblings the gig went well though. Also, we had Koyaanisqatsi playing via projector on the wall behind us. I think that worked well.

On the thirteenth of August, I'm DJing at a gameboy music night thingy. There will be people playing gameboys and screaming obscenities. More details to come!

So, for anyone in the Phoenix area, my band, Thankful Birds, will be playing tonight at the Rogue bar located at 423 North scottsdale with some great bands- The Pubes, Sole Function, and Rogue Tenant.  I'm handling guitar duties tonight on a stripped down set, something I've never really done before.  I've always been a bass player, so this should be interesting.  Show starts at 8:30, 21+ $3 at teh door.  Hope to see some a' yous.

Eugene (Ballard) posted this in the "Your own personal bands" thread, but not this one, but I'm going to it and others should too, so thought this was a good place to copy it to.

"My new band, Datura, has it's first show tomorrow, Saturday, September 13th.

If anyone's in or around the New York area and likes post-rock in the vein of Mogwai and The Album Leaf, come down to the East Village and check us out (along with a few really talented bands) at Don Hills. 6 PM, $10 cover charge.

Thanks!"

First off, two apologies:

Sorry for bumping this thread, and sorry for it being slightly the wrong thread..

But my band (all of us are 15) have just recorded (well properly recorded) one of our own songs, and I would really appreciate if you guys would take a moment to listen and give us a bit of advice. Of course, it's only a demo version, so the recording is slightly off.

Classic rock? I'm intrigued...Did it give off a classic rock kinda influence/feel?
