Post by: brandon_ha on 17 Jun 2008, 04:29
Ok so Less Than Jakes new album was played on the radio last night, so I"m sure by now that its all over the torrent websites, so what do you guys think? I thinks it's probably there best album in years.

I think plenty of people like ska, but most people HATE ska-punk on this forum. At least, that's the impression I got.

I think LTJ have a few decent songs. Not about to rush out and buy the new one though, so this is basically a bump for bump's sake.

This is kind of like turning up to a neo-nazi rally in drag.

Eh I figure if I have to die it would be cool for it to be at the rapier like wit of the forum.... and now that I'm in 3 feet of bullshit, bring on the flames.

What do you mean they I'm convinced that it's only Brian Eno using them as overrated puppets.

Don't even joke about that Coldplay record being good (even if it did involve Eno). It's just wrong.

I used to love this band so much. Dayglo ska punk with lyrics about spending your life stuck in a shitty town and getting drunk and fucked up all the time to cover the fact you wasted your life, it rather resonated with me when I was young and it sometimes still does. They really were one of the best bands to do this kind of music, but they've been going for too long now. Even if they made a return to form, what's the point? They never topped Pezcore and I don't see how they ever could, the best they could ever manage would be Pezcore 2.0. Unfortunately the slicker they got the less charm they had.. Ah well, I guess the vinyl will be on No Idea and that'll net them some cash for new releases as well as some back catalogue sales, it'll keep their bassist from making records with his woeful side project, and this thread has reminded me that Where In The Hell Is Mike Sinkovich is a pretty solid song so that's good. Maybe I don't dislike this stuff as much as I thought I did.

I just felt pity. Obviously the only possible reason for his involvement is that he has such a massive crack habit he's smoking rocks the size of Gibraltar daily.

Right?

People made music and a dude who isn't normally involved helped them. I don't see what the big deal is. It sounds honestly like so many other Eno records.

I have and was less than impressed. Cold Play's new album is far better than the majority of ska(-punk) out there anyway  :-D

And Coldplay's is too.

ROFLCOPTER.

I still love Coldplay's first record, dammit, so fuck you.

I remember when I was in to Less Than Jake.  "Gainsville Rock City" rocked so hard and "The Science of Selling Yourself Short" was my theme song.

Those days are over and I honestly think they're boring and played out, now.  Wasn't their last album made of fail or something like that?

If I remember right it was definitely their worst, they tried to stop being ska-punk but unlike the Dancehall Crashers they didn't make a good pop band.

Thinking about it all their best stuff was about being a little too old to still be stuck in a shit town, high school is long gone and it's your own damn fault you're a loser and still there. You can't really write songs like that when you're a world famous band, and they were never any good at anything else. Plus, the best song about Gainesville will always be Free Radio Gainesville by Hot Water Music, so yet more material about that town is looking pretty tired by this point. Seems like every No Idea band has done at least one song about it.

I own hello rockview, pezcore, and anthem (anthem sucks) and I'd say its right up there with the former two. I can't wait to get a hold of a copy. I can't remeber being excited for an album as much as this, but then again most bands that I think are good don't put albums out anymore.
