If you happen to remember any really cool multiplayer games from the 80's or 90's that would work in a tournament setting please reply.
Any suggestions on how to run the tournament would be welcome as well.
So far I have done an excellent job getting local businesses and restaurants to donate certificates for participants and winners.
If anyone is from the Plattsburgh, NY area and wants info on how to enter please message me.
Thanks.

Mario Brothers. The original.

Mario Brothers. The original.
Excellent! I didn't even think of this game! I know it was on Atari. Perfect if I can find a copy.
-
If all else fails, All the GameBoyAdavnce Mario games have it (you can link up the GBAs up), and I think it is also online in a couple of places.
-
Caveman games NES
that one snoopy game ....cant remmeber the name, mightve included the red baron
i have more suggestions but im trying to keep it in terms of frentic and or fast paced games that wont bore all who arent playing :)
-
The original Super Smash Bros. It would take people's minds off wave-dashing and C-stick smashing and actually get people to play. Mario Kart and a Doom LAN game would be good ideas also.
-
If you want really retro, as in even before the 80's, go for Combat for the Atari 2600. It can get really intense when played right.
-
California Games if you can find it. All I know is that I used to play it on my old NES and it was rad as hell.
-
Is the N64 retro enough? If so then Perfect Dark and Goldeneye would be perfect for something like that. Especially Perfect Dark.
-
Bomberman, motherfucker.
-
Eh, I wouldn't consider anything with more than 16-bit graphics retro. Something that is 10 years out of date isn't retro.
-
My brother and I used to play Olympic Decathlon against each other way back in the '80s. Hard to think of anything much more retro than that. I think most of the events were one-player, but there were a couple of races that were two-players.
Of course, it wasn't actually a very good game.
-
Super Spike V'Ball and Tecmo Super Bowl .... GO!
-
Mario Kart for the SNES. I know I would.
-
Thanks for all the great suggestions guys!
Bomberman is definably going to show up. I dunno if I want to get the original or the Bomberman PS version or the Bomberman Online version with 4-player mode.
Atari combat is a game that I was already going to include.
I will have to take a look at California Games. I never considered that one. If there is a quick multiplayer option I will include it. I am pretty sure I have the cart.
I have the original Smash Bros so that might be something I can include.
Tetris and Dr. Mario are other games that I am going to include.
On a side note it's funny that other people at the library are assuming that this is going to be a kids event when most of the people signing up are around the age of 20.
Thanks again!

Wolfenstein 3D speed runs! Just see how far people can get before they die! Overall score will be their in-game score divided by the time they took (in seconds). Highest score wins!

Bolo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolo_%28computer_game%29).
It's a top-down network multiplayer tank strategy game from the late 80s. There are modern ports for just about every computer platform out there so you shouldn't have a problem setting up a game as long as you have an assortment of computers and an Ethernet switch.
-
i really agree about golden eye for n64, if its old enough..
-
Scorched Earth, yo.
-
Second for Scorched Earth.
-
Combat
-
I'd like to add a third tally for Scorched Earth. I can't believe I forgot about that game, it is a hilarious and truly classic multiplayer game - GREAT suggestion too.
-
GOLDENEYE
Also for the N64: MarioKart 64
-
Say what now? The original mario kart was for the SNES.
-
Oh! I did not know that. I'll change it.

Still one of my favorite games.

Wait, was that Power Rangers the fighting one or the movie one?
-
http://www.virtualnes.com/ (http://www.virtualnes.com/) Not necessarily a suggestion but a easier way to get games the spelunking in closets.

No-one has said Doom yet?
That's terrible.
And as for Quake3; I'm a big fan of Quake2 multiplayer...
-
SpaceWar. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacewar!)
Failing that, Star Control (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Control).
-
No-one has said Doom yet?
That's terrible.
Doom isn't multiplayer.
-
My burning asshole, it's not. Doom invented the term deathmatch.
-
Indeed, I still remember getting that son of a bitch to run a LAN Deathmatch on my parent's PC network back in '93.

My burning asshole, it's not. Doom invented the term deathmatch.
Damn straight.
