With all the random shameless plugs present in nearly every thread, including my own, I figured maybe we could just start a "shameless plug" thread.
Who is your favorite band, why do they rock more than anyone else, and do you have any links to back it up?
There are no rules in this thread other than no posting the same band twice and try to keep your posts short and to the point. Verbally raping the poster above you for his or her (lack of) taste in music is encouraged. Gushing over how awesome someone's particular favorite is... equally encouraged.

My favorite band is Madahoochi. They rock because they are four very talented musicians who have been playing together for over 12 years, forming their own sound together, a mixture of rock and jazz and funk with a heavy emphasis on complex musical concepts and mixed time signatures. The guitarist, Scott Rockwood, is someday going to be a guitar legend. Shawn Hartung is both smoking hot and an amazing vocalist. Joe Winze is just a plain cool guy and great drummer. Herebeto Moreno has an unpronouncable name to most Caucasians, and provides the funky bass lines.
You can find samples at www.youtube.com/jtcbrown - I suggest Must Be Nice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnMmBlbY72c&feature=related), Under Her Sleeve (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yz-1X7Nv3-4), Johnny Walker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVHXT79nwoE&feature=related), Text Slut (http://uk.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=8ED955A45670B0F2), or Consequence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6esEminJoo). For Shawn Hartung singing, Choose to Lose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NipkzFrLOXg&feature=related), Burn the Money (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtXRTn0fg2c), and Nuclear Man - Part 1 (http://youtube.com/?v=3NbSOpM3SDI) (Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49GfjzSj9uY) is just a really long STS9-esque electronic Jam.)
Let the gushing - and flaming - commence!

The least you could have done is come up with some creative way of saying I'm a moron for posting this...

just stare into the eyes of his avatar

I got nothing... it looks like Trey Anastasio on Ecstasy. Which, for the type of band I usually like, says "That is the most awesome thing I've ever seen."

so basically it's the entire music forum in one thread?
I could get behind this honestly

Guys uh.
All kidding aside, Mclusky are better than your favorite band because they have more songs than a song convention, sing it.
-
agreed. the world loves them and is their bitch.
-
Not my absolute fav - but I really like Mumbo Joumbo Voodoo Combo (http://www.mumbojumbo.ca/index.html), The music is great, the band is fun to watch, and when I met my wife I was wearing their t-shirt.
-
Pretty much the best band name ever
-
Um, Fugazi?

The Weakerthans. They make some of the most god damned catchy and enjoyable music I have ever heard. John K. Samson is probably one of the greatest lyricists ever (up there with Will Sheff and Bob Dylan and such), and Stephen Carroll makes some of the coolest noises and has an awesome guitar tone. They also put on a great live performance and are nice, humorous people to boot.
John K. Samson is the only lyricist that I know of that can write a beautiful, heartbreaking song from the point of view of a depressed person's cat.
Their Myspace. (http://www.myspace.com/theweakerthans) There's some songs uploaded there, as well as a few videos of a whole live performance by them.

I suppose this is the thread for this, so I would just like to enter a shameless plug for the dubstep album I just uploaded, "My Demons" by Distance.
Oh. My. Fucking. God.
Basically this album was never meant to play on any kind of sound system that is not capable of killing small mammals at 50 paces. This album was meant for subwoofers that ought to qualify as weapons of mass destruction. And this album would probably be the best ammo possible for such a weapon.
This is the deepest, heaviest, filthiest, grimiest, scariest, sexiest electronica I've ever heard. Jesus fuck this album is dirty. This is the music of some sort of weird post-apocalyptic future where there's nobody left who can't dance, you can pay for speakers to be surgically implanted into your rib cage to turn your entire skeleton into a resonant chamber that massages you with music, and all the chicks are impossibly hot and will fuck you for days at a time.

Thanks for uploading some dub! I was just about to beg for some.
If you don't have Aaron Spectre - Reptile Dub or this 52 minute 'Vex'd on Square Roots Dubstep Special' I'll gladly upload them, but you're probably who I got them off.
-
Nope, I'd be glad to have them. I'll put up BBC Radio One Essential Mixes by Benga and Skream if you'd like as well, or LPs by them.
If you want straight dub, minus the step, I have some King Tubby and some Scratch Perry if you're into it.
-
That would be rad! I've got Super Ape but that's about it for normal dub.

Oh hey, just noticed this thread. That was me that uploaded those dubstep mixes, or linked to them, rather. In fact, I've been wondering lately if a mix thread would take off on this forum? It's pretty common on other music forums I post on, but they're generally orientated more towards electronic music.
And I have to second onewheelwizzard's review of Burial. <3 <3 <3 Burial.

Am I the only person who did not think that Burial album was all that? I mean, I've heard much better on the dubstep front. It just didn't really make me want to dance. I know I wasn't having my chest vibrated out of my body in the basement of a local pub, but I can't see it being much better there. Untrue sounds better, true, but I like my dubstep bassier and wobblier.
-
I haven't been able to stop listening to that Bon Iver album since I got it a week ago. Sooooooo fucking good.
Also... Mogwai are better than your band.
-

No, but more because I don't fully understand what I'm supposed to be getting out of dubstep than out of a belief that there are better dubstep albums.
My favorite band is Magnolia Electric Co. Jason Molina has more emotions about owls than most people have about... everything.

We already have this thread. It is called every fucking recommendations thread ever.
