or really any paints for that matter. Unless you include waterpaints from when I was sixish...
Right before I was going to post this I saw another person posting these really awesome paintings he did. So I'm pretty self-conscious right now, I guess.
But any criticism is welcome, I know it's not perfect (I still think it's alright for a first try though.)

I took the pictures with a camera phone so it's kinda hard to see.

That's pretty good.
I like the whole sunset over teh water concept.
but what exactly is that stuff in the middle?
It doesn't look bad, but that rope or w/e looks oddly drawn.

yeah, the noose looks oddly drawn because I screwed it up pretty badly :-P
as for the whole noose being there in the first place (if you were wondering) I thought it would be good to test my sense of layering and linearity. Apparently I have none.
The stuff in the middle is probably (if you mean the green spot on the lower right) the reflection of the moon, which actually looks pretty good in the painting but wasn't revealed very well in the picture.

I can kind of see it, but why a green moon?
Or is it supposed to me green because of how it's reflecting off the water?

Overall not bad, your layering is quite good, although I think you probably need to spend more time on the noose, if you took time on that, it would improve the quality of the piece tenfold.
But good effort for the first attempt! Oils are extremely difficult to use at first.
