Sigur ros Picked.
Ok New Dilemma:
August 29th:
Man-Man 6:00pm
Black Mountian 9:00pm
I might be able to make it to both, I don't want to risk it though.
So who's the better show? WHO?! .
-
See Sigur Ros. Definitely see Sigur Ros.
-
I have seen Iron and Wine live. They were pretty boring. But Sigur Ros are a fairly boring band to me also, so I dunno. Their live show might be better, but I think that all depends on how raucous/RAWKous they get.
-
I'd bet that Iron and Wine are more likely to go back to Vancoover in a timely manner than Sigur Ros. Go see Sigur Ros.
-
Sigur Ros are incredible live.
-
Sigur Ros are great live. Intense, beautiful, awesome shows. Go see them. It's no contest.
-
Oh my, that sucks.
If it was me though, I'd go to Sigur Ros... Their new album (released 1 or 2 months ago) was really nice, so I suggest you so them.
-
Iron and Wine are rubbish, Sigur Ros are ok. Go see Sigur Ros.
-
Definitely Sigur Ros. As others have said, SR put on a great show - Iron and Wine are very... uninspiring IMO.
-
Throw the old man and the lawyer out of the balloon. suck the next seven dicks you see.
-
I'm more familiar with Iron & Wine's music than I am with that of Sigur Ros, and I love Iron & Wine, but . . .
I saw them/him live just a few months ago, and it was pretty disappointing. Sam Beam has an exceptional band with him at the moment, and it was great to see such talented musicians, but they're essentially a jam band, which was not what I wanted from an Iron & Wine gig.
If you've got money to burn and you want to hear what Iron & Wine are currently sounding like live, you can buy downloads of recent live performances here (http://www.playedlastnight.com/artists/artist/2/Iron_Wine).
-
Yeah, Iron & Wine live was ever so slightly disappointing. On balance I like them on record a lot more than I like Sigger Ross, and he executed the songs well, but jam band covers it. Long noodly interludes between songs that don't really seem to go anywhere. Having said that, hearing some of the older stuff jazzed up with a full band was worth it.
And Bon Iver were fucking awesome. So good. If they're still touring with Bon Iver and you've never seen them before, that would swing it for me. If it's just a straight up choice between the two though, see Sigur.

That's definitely true; however when I saw Iron & Wine the set was probably about 99% songs from the Shepherd's Dog. Now, I love that album to bits, but when near the end of the set the band played a song off the Creek Drank the Cradle - "Upwards Over the Mountain", I think it was - it was just stunning, and easily eclipsed everything else played that night. A set with a heavier emphasis on older material arranged for the current band would be really worth seeing - but I don't know how likely to happen that is.
-
We had a pretty good mix when I saw them. How long was the set for you? I think we got most of Shepherd's Dog but still a good clutch of older stuff too. And 'The Trapeze Swinger' as an encore.
-
Take the lettuce and the wolf and cross.
Take the wolf back.
Get mad-rutty with the lettuce and share the sheep with the wolf for all I care.
But don't go see Iron & Wine over Sigur Ros.
-
Sigur Ros rock out way more live than they do on their albums, and are much, much louder. Go see them!
Oh, and to make up for not seeing Iron and Wine, just buy the latest copy of Beard Monthly and stare at various beards for a few hours.
(P.S. Do not listen to evernew. Make out with the sheep, and tape the lettuce to the wolf's head.)

Actually on that second one I would go with Man Man. But I've never cared for Black Mountain to begin with.
-
Black Mountain were so bad I walked out. Although the music was dire so I was never going to enjoy it their performance was really lacking, they looked to be as uninterested in their songs as I was. I can't imagine a fan being very impressed either, and most of the crowd did look really bored. Avoid.
-
Sigur Ros blew my mind when I saw them. And I only saw them because Duffy was on the other stage.
-
Dammit man, Sigur Ros. Why did you even do this thread?
-
I'll provide a vote for going to see Man-Man over Black Mountain.
-
I haven't heard either, however Man-Man is an extremely homoerotic name, whereas Black Mountain is a pretty cool band name. Just think: Telling your friends you saw "black mountain" is a lot cooler then the alternative. Therefore, go see Black Mountain.
-
Actually Black Mountain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Mountain_%28Australian_Capital_Territory%29) is a pretty touristy thing to go see, your friends won't be that impressed.
-
812 m! That's quite an impressive mountain for us crappy Australians.
-
I'd go to Black Mountain. What are the openers?
-
I'd also go with Black Mountain. It's the manlier show.

That's bizarre logic. He should go see Black Mountain so his friends don't think he's gay? While I like Black Mountain alright, truth is that they are not nearly as cool as their name would suggest.
Go see Man Man, just go see them. They are a great live show and should not be missed. Under any circumstances.
Fact: Man Man is "manlier" for the mere fact that they have the word "man" in their name (TWICE!)
-
Methinks you take the internet too seriously, Mr. Goat.
-
"Man man man man man" is the manliest thing anyone can ever say. That is not what you should base musical decisions on though.

yes it is.
-
The point is if you miss Black Mountain, the world will continue spinning on its axis.
If you miss Man Man, eventually, regret will consume you and you'll leave this world in a hasty and violent fashion by your own hand. Stands to reason.
