Title: NYC pool parties
Post by: StaedlerMars on 23 Jul 2008, 08:39
So, I just discovered the NYC pool parties

This sunday MGMT, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Ting Ting are playing (for free!). This is a problem because I just bought a ticket to spiritualized, but I might be there during the day.

Next sunday it's Black Lips, Deerhunter, King Khan and his Shrines, and Tall Furs.

Anyone going/ interested in going?

I am definitely interested in going.. I've been to that pool for concerts before but I've never made it to one of the pool parties before.

My lineup is better than your lineup. (http://oyafestivalen.com/pages/nor/8-program)

that is a pretty rad line up. how free is yours though? Cause mine is pretty free.

@mfpole I'm definitely going this sunday. I didn't get to last week because of aforementioned spiritualized concert.

I would definitely like to go, but I realized I got some plans already for Sunday... one day I will make it to a pool party...

this lineup is more relevant to my interests than that nyc pool party one.

Yeah, but Black Moth Super Rainbow for free is pretty much awesome.

anything (bar the obvious hur hur) for free is pretty much great.

I went today, but I only caught the Black Lips due to working situations. It seemed pretty cool though. dodge ball game and slides. and the weather was not too warm. It's the last year though. which makes me sad. They're going to start using the pool again.

I made it as far as Bushwick getting to the MGMT pool party but while meeting up with my friend I ended up forgetting about the show and hanging out with her.

Couldn't make it to the Black Lips one but my friend says both bands were epic.

Apparently next week is the last ever pool party and the week after is the last non-free McCarren Pool show 'cause they're filling it up and making it into a real pool again.

StaedlerMars, you live in New York?

Why don't I live in New York yet? I want to see the Ting Tings. :(

OK so this seems like as good a place as any to ask:

Indiefags: Is it OK to like the Tings Tings, or should I file them under "guilty pleasure"?

I openly like the Ting Tings, but I'm not an "indiefag".

There are three more free Pool Parties left:

Aug 10 - the Felice Brothers, Eli (Paperboy) Reed, Langhorne Slim, Deertick
Aug 17 - Aesop Rock, Chin Chin, Panther
Aug 24 - Yo La Tengo, Titus Andronicus, Ebony Bones

Sonic Youth are playing the last non-free show at McCarren Pool August 30.

who cares? Like what you like.

@ Ballard, my parents live in NYC for the moment, so I'm here when I'm not at university.

@ Linds, I hear Queens is the cheap place to be these days in New York.

I might go to the Aesop Rock one. Yo La tengo sounds good too. the August 10 doesn't really interest me though.
