I am going to see the smoking popes in roughly two weeks. I don't think they will get too big of a turn out here in Dallas.
I would assume that since they are playing Dallas, they are on a tour. Anyone else going to see them?

Nah, most of Texas is Protestant, Southern Baptists, I would wager, is the most numerous. So, these so-called Smoking Popes should be all right.

What kind of music do they play? I haven't been to a good show in a while, and wouldn't you believe it?, not a lot of good bands come through OKC that aren't like, Three Dog Night and Kansas.

They are a pretty good pop punk band, but if you are not into that, I can understand.
I just love the lead singer's voice.

They've been around for awhile, as far as I can remember. They had some fairly ubiquitous singles, though. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tySYoOSDus

According to their MySpace, http://www.myspace.com/smokingpopes , they're a hometown band. Interesting. They will be having an "aftershow" for Lollapalooza on 8/2 at Congress Theater. Maybe it's worth checking out. Though, I wish I could go to the actual Lollapalooza since it has some killer bands =/.

Actually, I'll be leaving town like a couple days before that to go back home for a week and then come back.

gospel- I'm glad they exist too. He went on that whole whole, I am going to start making worship music kick for a while.
Blake- That is too bad. However, the Magnetic Fields will be playing in October, you should try and be around for that.

when i saw the shaky hands at the viera project in seattle? i'm sure 10 people not counting the people in the band were all that were there

Neil Hennessey from the Lawrence Arms hopped on as the new drummer for Smoking Popes.

And pretty much everything that him and Eli Caterer have had a hand in (Sundowner, The Falcon, Birds In The Air, Colossal) are FUCKING ACE.
