Does anyone have favorite songs... but have no clue what they're singing? LOL

"Champs Elysees" (I've only heard the NOFX version, but I love it.)
"Tout Document" by Feist
Also a bunch of Pillows songs as well as a bunch of Can songs.
-
"Eiskalt Erwischt" by Eiscrecher (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=EQ9sfR70ZJE)
"Everlasting" by Galneryus (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=KzAfatAMOQ4)
"Krabat" by ASP (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=vh69Az_F8Ss)
"Regin Smiour" by Tyr (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=97lxvrKC-nI)
Everything Eisbrecher and ASP play are in German, about half of Tyr's stuff is in Faroese and a few songs by Galneryus are in Japanese.
-
I really like those last two! (the first two are a bit hard for my taste)
Ooh here's another one:
Mhórag s Na Horo Gheallaidh - Clannad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXCAO98SMK0&feature=related)
-
mai-a-hii, mai-a-huu, mai-a-hoo, mai-a-ha-ha... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfiVc0X9Ewc)
-
mai-a-hii, mai-a-huu, mai-a-hoo, mai-a-ha-ha... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfiVc0X9Ewc)
oooh you sneaky sneaky bastard! But you won't get me, OH NO! I'm wise to your game. :police:
-
99 Luftballons by Nena, and some NEU! songs.
-
Anything by Mil a-Huile Rud.
If you like Scots Gaelic in punk. :-P
-
Hanggai - Four Seasons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDWeHTjCfE0)
-
Oh man, how could I forget "Foux De Fa Fa" by Flight of the Conchords?
-
Tinariwen - 'Cler Achel'
Sigur Ros - Saeglopur
Refused - Jag Ater Inta Mina Vanner
The Beatles - Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand (appallingly spelled by me there)
-
Islaja, Sigur Ros, Francoise Hardy and Hanggai are the first that come to mind, but I am sure there are more.
Also, whilst not in a language other than English, most Cap'n Jazz songs might as well be.
-
mai-a-hii, mai-a-huu, mai-a-hoo, mai-a-ha-ha... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfiVc0X9Ewc)
oooh you sneaky sneaky bastard! But you won't get me, OH NO! I'm wise to your game. :police:
Hey, it's a good song.
I second I Zimbra.
And that song from Yelle in the Worst Band Ever thread. So catchy, so hot.
-
Weea-Who me?
Hazumu Riz - Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra & Puffy AmiYumi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0zOb2CekfY)
I've no idea what the song is called - Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuE_cgTcrzo)
-
Om Hundrede Aar Er Alting Glemt - Lumsk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXr2iAQTMo0)
The title means 'In a Hundred Years All Will be Forgotten', I believe. Can't be bothered to translate the lyrics.
-
Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PITnJAnmjqw)
Although the lyrics make no sense.
-
I'm sorry for these huge "quote all" posts but I like replying to things together and it helps me get used to the people on a forum quicker :)
99 Luftballons by Nena, and some NEU! songs.
I like when people like music I like.
Also a bunch of Pillows songs as well as a bunch of Can songs.
You and me would get along. Musically, anyways.
mai-a-hii, mai-a-huu, mai-a-hoo, mai-a-ha-ha... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfiVc0X9Ewc)
Was waiting for this, haha. My friend speaks Romanian, so the song doesn't have as much novelty for him.
Oh man, how could I forget "Foux De Fa Fa" by Flight of the Conchords?
Okay, we'd just get along in general. LOVE that song.
Also, I like Polysics, Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk, Sigur Ros, El Guincho... so I've got a bunch of foreign going on. Oh and Tunak Tuank Tun, to represent my own culture
-
Malajube!

Om Hundrede Aar Er Alting Glemt - Lumsk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXr2iAQTMo0)
The title means 'In a Hundred Years All Will be Forgotten', I believe. Can't be bothered to translate the lyrics.
Not my translation, but here;
I drift in the evening, thinking and struggling,
I am like a Boat capsized
and though I lament and suffer
still I see no Solution.
But why should I be so hard betrodden?
In hundred Years everything is forgotten.
So then I sooner put an end to the Struggle
and go to Sea with my paining Soul.
The world will find me there sometime later
so bitterly drowned to death.
But why should my end be so rotten?
In hundred years everything is forgotten.
-
Oh man, how could I forget "Foux De Fa Fa" by Flight of the Conchords?
Great band and great song, but unfortunately, random French annoys the hell out of me. Coincidentally, I would say Belle Apoque is my favorite foreign band. They're amazing
-
Envy and Daitro write the best songs that are not in english.
-
Envy and Daitro write the best songs that are not in english.
I love Envy.
-
But not Daitro?
If you like Envy you will probably enjoy Daitro. French scremo with slight slight oh so slight hints of post-rock. Absoutely superb. I know their split with Sed Non Satiata is in the medaifire thread, go download it!
Actually Sed Non Satiata write some of the best songs not in english too. I best not start listing scremo bands like this, I could go on forever.
-
Never heard'em, I'll be sure to give a listen.
-

Wow! That song just got that much more awesome!

Cantando en Español by NoFX is very, very funny, but only if you speak Spanish.
Despues de 235
canciones, los liricos se valuan mas
y no tengo ningunos para esta
El Hefe canta melodia triste
o canta amor de la corazon
haz como que hable español
Ojala que la mayoria
de nuestros aficionados
no entiendan nada que canto
para los otros: chinga su madre, guey
I can't be bothered to translate, except the last bit says:
I hope most
of our fans
don't understand anything I sing
For everyone else, fuck your mom, dude.

The Beatles - Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand? In english its "I wanna hold your hand" one of their most popular songs.
yeah i, tell you something i think you'll understand
when i, say that something: I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
I wanna hold your hand
and when I touch you I feel happy, inside
Its such a feeling that my love
I can't hide
I can't hide...
Etc. There's more I cant be bothered to type. But yeah-- look up "I wanna hold your hand" and you'll find the original, english lyrics!
...what point are you making? Are we translating all the songs in the thread? The Sigur Ros fans might be around for a while.
-
All of the first three albums of Os Mutantes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLs_U394kq8&feature=related)

Speaking of parody foreign songs, I think El Corazon by Hard 'n Phirm is brilliant. Sounds just like a Spanish love song to the uneducated, but it's really just a detailed explanation of the human heart.

 that's awesome!!
*goes to hunt it down*

I was just expressing my surprise that this person knew this song as "Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand" as they are a British band. It's a geocentric point of view I hold, but I was really surprised that someone didn't know the song in its english form.
That someone was me, and I was being ironic. I think I actually said 'the hell with it' or something before mentioning it.
-
Windir? Pretty much all black metal, I guess?
Ooh, and Aisha Jambo are really good too.
-
See, that's a cop-out, though.
-
Recently, this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nywAi9F137Q) has been my favourite song sung by a foreign person.
-
Ingrid - Tu Es Foutu
-
Μητέρα βομβών φύλων ναι!

More dance!
Modeselektor - Dancing Box (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgocxagMFV0)

Actually, quite a lot of my music is Italian, German, Russian, Japanese, Spanish,...
I guess my all-time favorites would have to be La Quiete

Am I the only person who saw Basshunter's sex pictures before I heard a single note of his music?
-
I like SOOOOOOOOO much nonenglish music. Some of my favorites:
Dota - Basshunter (Swedish) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OzWIFX8M-Y
Boten Anna - Basshunter (Swedish) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYQUsp-jxDQ&feature=related
Wait. You actually like Basshunter?
Noone likes Basshunter. It's like a terrible, terrible nerdy Cascada clone.
I have a friend who used to play both DotA and Boten Anna every time I hung out with him. He stopped after I got pissed at him one day because I was sick and tired of hearing shitty pop (Basshunter is the least of some of the crap he listens to).
-
Two that come to mind are:
Cesaria Evora - Coragem Irmon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4__a_CBBVk)
Magic Sound System - Premier Gaou (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJMpeYwifEU)
And one that I only understand, like, half of:
Manna Dey - Coffeehouser sei adda (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3lesKF-PRM) - one of my favourite songs from my childhood, about hanging out at the coffeehouse all those years ago and how such things are no more :(
-
Does anyone know any spanish/french/ italian bands that are like modest mouse or nick cave?
-
Pigface
Du Liebst Mich Nicht, Ich Lieb' Dich Nicht (deutchland distortion mix)
War Ich Nicht (Live)/Amphetaminemethamphetamine (Live)/Girls Are Cool (Live)

Um, anything by Geddy Lee isn't in English, but in some sort of falsettoese.
Ebudæ by Enya
Ready Steady Go by L'arc-en-Ciel
Hocus Pocus by Focus (Yodeling Dutch Rock never sounded so good.)
Oye Como Va by Santana
Southpark House/Tarruing Tean An Crios/Kevin's Celtic Chasm by Anna Murray
-
Um, anything by Geddy Lee isn't in English, but in some sort of falsettoese.
As awesome as the guy is, you're right.

Xaaaaanaaaduuuuuuu!!!

Panjabi---Mundian Te Bach Ke
It's brilliant! Corny, but brilliant.
Arcade Fire---Haïti
Most of the lyrics is not English, but French.
Anything by Rammstein.
And this weird song, by the German band Helium Vola: Saelic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvWfJO5TCVg)
And some Dutch music, most notably Guus Meeuwis, and his song about Brabant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG2DMzJamkk), the region in the Netherlands I'm from.
-
Richard Gotainer - La Ballade de L'obsede
Funny song, translated as "The Ballad of the Pervert" or something to that degree.
-
Anything by Rammstein.
This
-
Anything by Rammstien.... i'll third that ! Actually i enjoy watching the azumanga daioh amv of "Rammstien - America" on YouTube
but for cruising the streets of Delta BC Canada i'd pick "Jimi Mistri - Chori Chori Gori Se" its on the soundtrack to the movie "The Guru" not to be confused with the "The Love Guru"
-
Cocteau Twins - their whole catalogue (in Liz Frazer language)
Os Mutantes and a lot of other Tropicalia music
-
Other bands play.
Rammstein burns.
-
Everything by Wir sind Helden, especially "Du Erkennst Mich Nicht Wieder" and just because it's fun and makes me dance, "Gekommen um zu Bleiben."
"Belleville Rendevouz" by Benoit Charest.
I'm sure there's more but I can't think of the names of them.
-
Paul VanDyk - Nothing but you
This was the first song to come to mind when I saw the thread title.
It is my favourite non-english song ever.
(Though I am sure with the plethora of guitarists on this forum I am not quite speaking to a dance-techno appreciating audience)
-
Most Boris songs are in Japanese. They're one of my favorite bands ever. Go figure.
-
Cool Kids of Death, anyone? Look them up on Youtube.
-
I know it's the obvious answer, but... Sigur Ros. It has to be. Honourable mention goes to Polysics, Japanese electro-punk which is mostly in Japanese with the odd bit of English and the odd bit of complete nonsense.
-
I'm new here on these boards and I have to say I am digging the musical tastes and opinions shared here. Now that's out of the way...
I am with everyone who mentioned Sigur Ros.
I love me some international jazz so I have to say "Engingilaye" by Richard Bona and I have to give credit to a band that refuses to let Shoegazing die and I love me "New Years" by Asobi Seksu

Outside (the amazingly fast guy). That guy is an amazing rapper. I actually wanted to post Run And Run, my personal favorite track, but I couldn't find a good quality version on YouTube.
