To my deep shame, my knowledge of stringed instruments outside of the violin family is sorely lacking :/
I just came into possession of something I'm pretty sure is an electric guitar from my father, who got it in the early '80s and then pretty much put it aside after a few days messing about with it. However, he didn't know any more details, and actually thought it might be a bass, and I don't really have the knowledge to do better. I've been meaning to pick up an electric guitar and actually learn to play it, though, so this seemed like a good opportunity.
A couple've photos are linked below, could anyone tell me what I'm dealing with?

Yep, it's a 6 string guitar.

It's definitely a guitar. However I could not tell you anything more than that, since my instrument of choice is the drum kit.
Did it come with an amp? Looks pretty beaten up, I wouldn't try using it if I were you.

I'm surprised you couldn't find it on the headstock. My intuition, coupled with Google Image Search is telling me that it's a Teisco Del Rey, but don't quote me on that. I'm 100% positive it's a Teisco, though. The logo on the headstock is the same as the Teiscos I'm finding on GIS.

I'm not a guitar player, but isn't the bottom of that neck pretty thick?
Also, I'm sure a good clean will get rid of the 'beaten up' look.
-
Isn't it left handed too?
-
Yep...Anyways, I believe this is a teisco del rey headstock:

If the headstock doesn't give it away, certainly the knobs and the tremolo do. That's a vintage axe you got there, my friend.

Looks like it, but a six string bass would have a MUCH thicker neck.

I think the first picture is just reversed. There's a backwards "N" on a book or something in the background and the little "cockney" thing on the body is backwards in the first picture and frontwards in the second.
Also: really cool looking guitar. One does not see the weird-looking vibrato tailpieces very often these days.

Is it signed by a bunch of people, or are those just random words?
