Jesus Christ, this game is fantastic. A marked improvement over the first, which was already an already amazing game.
Everything has been scaled up, but it is also a much more fluid, faster-paced game. Gone are the fetch-quest like "Find named baddies, cuff/kill, gather intel to get big bad, rinse and repeat". Multiple, open-ended bounties for both people and buildings make for a good way to both cause massive amounts of destruction, and get paid for doing so.
I really doubt this game is going to budge from my disc tray. At least, until Fallout 3 rolls around.

I thought a lot about buying this game recently, but the reviews have been pretty middling and there's no demo for the game, so I'm probably going to give it a pass until it gets cheaper. It sounds like it has a ton of technical problems.

I loved the original, but this is still on a rent-only list for me. The lack of polish, even on a damn fun game, isn't worth $70CDN.

I heard it was really, really buggy. Confirm/deny?

The Mercenaries series feels like mid-to-late 90s games: incredibly fun and buggy as all hell.
Although "buggy" might not be the right term, it's a game that isn't done to the same standard as other current-gen games, certainly. Don't let that stop you though since by all accounts it's still an incredibly fun game, of which there have been incredibly few as of late.

Did they get rid of the pop-up from the old one? I have the PS2 version (that could be the problem) of the first one, and on one of the missions early on (retrieve SK spy), I ended up failing because I didn't see an NK roadblock that I ran into until it was five feet away, and I had been facing that way for about five seconds, got knocked into a river and died and failed. Fun game, especially when you start getting creative with how to do things, I have been looking forward to the second one, but I don't plan on buying it for a while.

All I know is the TV advertisement is freakin' annoying.
-
I thought it was funny and clever at first but after seeing it a billion times it has lost pretty much all of its charm.

Man I miss MechWarrior.
-
Left-field, but I'll work it.
MechWarrior was awesome. MechAssault was a joke. Y'know how when we were really little, we'd just smash two action figures together in a farce of some kind of epic battle? That's what happened at their planning session. And that's how MechAssault came out.
