Title: Queen and David Bowie - Under Pressure
Post by: stale on 21 Sep 2008, 16:49
Am I the only one who, when listening to the radio and that bass starts up, secretly hopes, "This time, please, please let it be, I want to hear Vanilla Ice Ice Baby!?"??!

Anyone, anyone??

Is it so outrageous a thing to wish for this that it might be seen as a troll? See, I'm sure it's a stupid thing to hope for, but I do. I just need to know if I'm truly alone in this, or if there are others and I'm not crazy.

Karaoke staple when doing the song is to, after the first bass riff, jump in with "Alright stop! collaborate and listen", before backing away, laughing, and launching into the "Mm ba ba de"

The bass riff in 'Ice Ice Baby' is verrrry slightly different. With a good ear you can tell which one it's going to be.

There is a cover of that that Ben Kweller did during some show he played somewhere that I'm quite fond of. I wonder if I can find it again...

I mean, sometimes I think it's going to be the Ice version, mostly because I grew up as a kid with his version, then later on discovered the horrible truth.  However, I don't think I would ever hope it is the Ice Ice Baby.

The bass riff in 'Ice Ice Baby' is verrrry slightly different. With a good ear you can tell which one it's going to be.
Accordion to Vanilla, it's wayyyyyy slightly different!

And so forth you shall learn again to never speek such heresy, for I, your god, shall will it into existance.

It is so much harder to dance like Vanilla Ice and his backup dancers do than I thought it would be

Didn't Missy Elliot also use that bass line in a song of hers? Basically, it gets around.

It's to discourage people from doing it.

Under Pressure is probably one of the greatest high points of mainstream rock in the '70's.  So no, I don't hope that it's Ice Ice Baby.
Is it some sort of twisted 90's nostalgia that makes you feel this way?
I also really, really, like Xiu Xiu and Michael Jira's version, btw.

Ah, I get the thread now.

I have never heard Vanilla Ice, nor would I ever want to.

Also, talking about high points of 70's mainstream rock is like talking about the more pleasant aspects of being burned alive.

I quite like the Owls version on the Empty Bottle bootleg that was upped a while ago.
