But I have been listening to a lot of Tiger Army and the like lately. And this is making me want to listen to a lot of punk. What are some of you guys favorite punk bands, and who should I definitely check out? Also, what are some other good psychobilly bands I should check out?
-
I can assure you of a few that are almost guaranteed to pop up:
Hüsker Dü
Fugazi
Minor Threat
But I can't really go much further than that, because "punk" is such a vague term nowadays. Some of my favorite bands that are some form of punk are The Ergs!, Bomb the Music Industry!, The Thermals, Braid and various emo acts like Cap'n Jazz, Rites of Spring, and Sunny Day Real Estate. I leave it up to the more qualified punk aficionados on the boards to give you further information.

I am actually listening to Fugazi right this second. Minor Threat is probably on this playlist somewhere. I never really got much into Husker Du, just because I really honestly haven't heard much. I will check them out. But pretty much stuff similar to that, maybe a bit fast/heavier. I really fucking love the Dead Kennedys, if that helps any.

Mika Miko is a band you should probably listen to.
-
Very similarly---if anyone could recommend some stuff that's like Tiger Army I'd be grateful, because honestly all my punk-listening lately has just been Tiger Army.
-
I think it is only slightly silly that I am making recommendations in my recommendation thread, but...
If you like Tiger Army, check out the Horrorpops, Necromantix, The Cramps, Reverend Horton Heat, or 7 Shot Screamers(which are a local band, so I totally had to post them).
-
Reverend Horton Heat
yessssssss
-
Owls - Owls.
That is all.
-
Lawrence Arms and Cock Sparrer. That's all you need. Honestly. And maybe Cobra Skulls, if you're into Tiger Army.
(..and GBH, dudes. GBH.)

This guy. Also The Thermals, no I don't care if you don't think they're punk.
-
I saw the Thermals in Cleveland at The Grog Shop when they opened up for Cursive. When they finished their set, half the crowd left. It was only slightly depressing that it went from being a pretty mixed crowd, to one of mostly 21+.
I thought they put on a really good show, and the crowd got into it. I probably wouldn't buy their cd, but I'd see them again.
I will check out everybody mentioned. Putting them all in my phone, and if I don't stop by work later tonight to pick some bands up, I will tomorrow. Keep the recommendations coming.

Bitchslicer
Black Rose Phantoms

Psychobilly and punk recommendations...now with youtube!
ONLY THE METEORS ARE TRUE PSYCHOBILLY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-x3lpeS0r8)
Batmobile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyLPwt0xRMg&feature=related)
The Grave Stompers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsHs6P9lhr8)
The Coffinshakers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WYUNHeftrM) This is one of their slow songs, sort of like Johnny Cash if he was a vampire. This is by no means their best song. Try to get hold of the songs Halloween (not a Misfits cover), Dracula Has Risen From The Grave, Black Sunday and The Night Side of Life. I might upload some shit in the mediaf!re thread, because this band is really awesome.
The Ghastly Ones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqejMDl0mFQ) Kind of psychobilly/surf? Their first album is pretty good. Have 'sold out' but still make good music.
PUNK:
The X-Ray Spex (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AS4bBEMT44&feature=related)!!!!!
Also here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbRxJzgOkug&feature=related) is The Meteors covering another punk essential, The Anti-Nowhere League (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH7pOUm5s9k)
999 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMlpqOsc2BU)
The Damned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m2JyiggwAU&feature=related)
John Otway (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkYOZyNocrw), the punkest man alive.
Oh and The Misfits (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVfeLavkFso) obviously. Especially this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Qt2zuMLi44) given the context.
-
Psychobilly and punk? Why not combine both great flavors? Hank III
Put the Dick in Dixie and the Cunt in Country (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEY8ARSGHTU)
Life of Sin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnflVL3ZZb4)
Blue Devil (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pjVrEP_CQE)
Hellbilly Joker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWYtRx_90o4)
HIs live shows are awesome: a set of country, then a set of hardcore & metal
-
The Germs
Minor Threat
Husker Du
Flipper
Guitar Wolf
Ramones
Replacements
They're faves for punk
-
Going with the Halloween theme, you should probably check out the Misfits.
-
GG Allin duds. GG Allin. Someone who is named Jesus Christ from his preacher father and when he gets old he starts a punk band... GG Allin. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EtuGjMDNt0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EtuGjMDNt0)

I think I already posted one of these videos, but why the hell would you need something like GG Allen when you've got the Fucking (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=AH7pOUm5s9k) Anti-Nowhere (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=n4ewhrWW8cc&feature=related) League (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=eufFfX5-KbQ). Better, funnier and Animal could have kicked GG Allen's head in any day.
-
@Misereatur: Amen.
Might I add The Damned to the list.
-
FUCK.
Fugazi is to Minor Threat as The Backstreet Boys are to N*SYNC. And, yes, in that order.
