Title: Music Talk, I give you an impossible mission. Dare to prove me wrong.
Post by: jill the ripper on 29 Oct 2008, 18:25
So, basically, I'm desperate.
What I'm about to do is normally reserved for ass hats and douche bags, so I held off as long as I could. However, Music Talk, the time has come. All* have failed in previous territory, but let you come out the victor.

Here's the trouble:
There's this song, and every time I hear it, I love it.
I vaguely remember, from ages ago, an NPR interview, and I think this song is by someone who was a member of Devo.
The song is spooky- sounding. Something that should be on the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack, but it isn't.
I don't know the name, any lyrics, or an artist, but I am pretty darned sure Gerald Casale is doing the vocals.
It is considerably popular, popular enough to be played with Duran Duran in coffee shops.

Alright.
That's all I know.
Anybody know what song I'm blithering about?

And I'm sorry for putting on my ass hat and giving you this, but it is necessary for my Halloween party mix.
I've been looking a really. long. time.

*I

with much groveling and begging of forgiveness,
jill.

I need it by Friday at the lastest though.
Otherwise, I would totally follow your advice.
I heard it last Saturday, and was an idiot not to run for a napkin.

It's a recent song.
Maybe a Jerry Jihad?
I looked all over for those, and only found a few.

my probelm is you've got danny elfman running through my head and my braing is trying to found something in mainstream radio which sounds like it....it's not working

*EDIT* the monster mash is slightly reminiscent of danny elfman, or possibly something out of RHPS also although i'm shamed to admit knowing of it, blood by my chemical romance fit's the modent part of it

though if you're looking for suggestions for the mix tape i'm sure plenty of people will be willing to help jstu say the word

But i need this song!
This exact song!

I have my latte-drinking little heart set on it.
The NPR interview played the song in it.
The one that orange posted, and another interview with Gerald Casale's name are the only two on NPR that pertain to DEVO.
I swear I wasn't hallucinating though. It was on the radio. And I only listen to NPR.

Any instruments you remember?

Anything other than that someone played it on NPR at some point?

EDIT: All I can think of that might fit into the nightmare before christmas next too oogie boogie man is Peek-A-Boo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPzzvcYYugE) by Devo.

I don't know what Danny Elfman you have been listening to, isn't "Monster Mash" something like a sendup of '50s rock'n'roll? And isn't it more like Danny Elfman to instead use the tubas and trombones as a sort of brass 'bass drum' and use the higher brass as a sort of 'snare drum'? Entirely different styles, if you ask me.

Danny Elfman's music sounds like exactly what you would think a man with the last name "ELF MAN" would sound like.

(I don't mean that in a bad way.)

Why did I just envision Martin Short playing a mandolin?

I could definitely see that done as Jiminy Glick.

I havn't listened to much Devo, but I must say that DeVotchKa is very Danny Elfman. They did the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack, which I guess could warrant them a spot in a coffee house playlist..

DeVotchKa actually did a track for the 'special edition' Nightmare soundtrack, I think.

It is streamed here (http://www.spin.com/articles/exclusive-album-stream-marilyn-manson-sparklehorse-korn-nightmare-soundtrack) in case that was actually it.

Tell them to have fun with their condoms that have had holes crushed into their walls, thus rendering them entirely ineffective.
