It's a fun little forum game I've seen done with movies in the past (not to mention on other message boards), but I thought It'd be fun.
I start the game off by saying a genre type, and the person below me types in their favorite game of that particular genre, and says another genre of game, one that has to be different from the one they were asked. (ie. I say 3D Platformer, the person below me replies with their favorite, and then would ask the person typing below them what their favorite Turn Based Strategy is, and the person below replies with their favorite TBStrategy game, and asks the person below them what their favorite 3rd Person Stealth shooter is, etc.)
Try to be fairly specific with the genre labels, but not so specific only 1 or two games fit in the category. Don't just say "Shooter" but shorten it to something like "2D Sidescrolling Shooter" or "First Person Shooter RPG"
So I'll start off with something pretty easy for most people:

From what I know bullet hell tend to be shoot 'em ups except that there are so many enemies/bullets/lasers/whatever on screen that you have to be in very specific places on the screen at any given time not to get killed.

-
So would bullet hell games apply to older arcade style shooters as well, such as Galaga?
Also, if it doesn't then I'll just go ahead and say Galaga for this answer, or whichever version of the game I used to play at the C.C.'s pizza back in my hometown.
Favorite First Person RPG. I hereby recommend that Oblivion should be disqualified*, if it please the court.
*
despite the fact that I probably spent upwards of 150 hours on that game getting every single achievement, it was more because it was one of the few games I had early on than it was because if was a good game, of which it was just okay.

Actually, I handled it with Dawn of War. Games like this inevitably fail when multiple people address the same post with different directions, which are the answered in varying orders. Doesn't work on forums with a reasonably high number of posters.

When I think traditional RPG I think something Dungeons and Dragons-y, not JRPG. That's why I was surprised.

When I think traditional RPG I think something Dungeons and Dragons-y, not JRPG. That's why I was surprised.
But the biggest influences on the entire existance of JRPGs (particularly Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy) were traditional, D&D-like American RPGs such as Ultima and Wizardry, so...
