Hey, anyone notice that there is no longer a forum link on the main page? Does that mean Jeph is phasing it out?
-
There is still a link, but it's very small and on the right side
-
It's under extra credit.
-
I noticed that too, it was kind of hard to find.
-
Oh no, now we have to scroll down to find it
-
But is it worse than those AOL news comments?
-
or yahoo! answers?
-
Am I one of the few who doesn't even bother visiting the comic to get to the forum, but has the forum as its own bookmark?
-
I'm on my dads computer...I don't think he would be happy with me talking to strangers on the internet. Therefore, no bookmark.
-
I think my dad would worry more about what I did on the computer if I didn't talk to strangers at all, because that would mean I was even more of a recluse than I already am.
I don't ever visit the front page, I think. I've got the forum URL bookmarked/in my head, and the comic via RSS.
-
I bookmarked the forum years ago. Google Chrome tells me it is my second most visited site after Electrical Audio.

hi5 (though your most visited is way cooler)
-
Oddly, I only use bookmarks for sites I don't visit very often. At my private elementary school, we started learning typing skills in 2nd grade (3 times a week for a half an hour), so the ol' alt+d and entering the url for sites I commonly visit feels quicker and far more natural to me, even though it probably isn't.
-
Nah, I do the same. Sites that I visit frequently, I just type in, because I have them memorized. It's only sites that I enjoy but that I don't go to as often that I have bookmarked.
-
Tommy, you narcissist.
Ok that is not exactly fair since I have a million pictures of myself in my Facebook profile picture section
Jeph mentioned in one of his Twitters that he considered giving himself a Christmas gift by shutting down the Comics discussion section.
-
Oh man, then they'd all come here instead. Can I get a collective shudder?

I kind of do the same thing, since most of my browsing gets done at work, and I don't want to bookmark anything because it might show my boss that I spend roughly about as much time on the internets as I do working.
-
I don't think these forums have ever come out of the closet. 8-)
Merry Christmas.
-
But yeah the forums are tiny and the music blog has vanished.
-
or yahoo! answers?
Please, it was very helpful when I needed guidance of the formation of babby.
-
Was it a vampire baby?
I don't think Jeph would shove the forums in a closet, he wouldn't trust the comic discussion and WCT sections where he couldn't see them, and I think the description of the I like HURRRRR section pretty much sums up why he wouldn't put it in a small dark place.
-
But yeah the forums are tiny and the music blog has vanished.
To be fair, none of us ever write anything.

It's my homepage.

I am visiting my mom so no bookmark on this machine.

I've written the last two articles. As far as I'm concerned it's somebody else's turn.
-
Aside from having it bookmarked, I also have the url memorized. It's a habit I picked up from living in the days of having to memorize phone numbers instead of just saving them on a cell phone.
-
Oh man, then they'd all come here instead. Can I get a collective shudder?
That's why we'll set up a few machinegun nests and mines in the little gap between QC Discussion and Other Fun Things. Any comic obsessive who tries to run the other way is essentially walking into a kill zone.
I should stop playing violent videogames shouldn't I

I was drafting an article on how I kind of felt out of the loop this year and then I read Tiny Mix Tapes and someone else had written my article!

most of my browsing gets done at work,
I do the majority of my web browsing at work. I have a ton of non-work-related stuff bookmarked, categorized into a few different subfolders: gmail (no subfolder, my default browser page), Pre-lunch links (which is just my LJ friends page and google news), Webcomics, Post-Lunch links, and Misc. All links. I could give you a run down, play-by-play detail of my internet browsing during work, but I won't.
Aside from having it bookmarked, I also have the url memorized.
Really, though, is forums.questionablecontent.net that hard to memorize? Surprisingly, these forums are one of the regularly-visited sites I don't have bookmarked. I did for a long time, but after a lot of the INTERNET DRAMA happened in 2007, I removed it.
I think I had more productive things to say here, but I guess not.
-
If you're at work, just Google QC Forums.
(okay, so I just want people to see my name).
-
Have you ever read the comic forums?
this, i'm pretty sure, is the reason. most of the people who post in the other topics are frequent enough posters that they won't forget a pretty simple url if there's no longer a big link leading to it. when to comes to the comic forums on the other hand, there are literally thousands of members who join simply to post once or twice about how much they want to have sex with sven or touch faye on the bum only it's not so much "posting" as "keyboard mashing" and it's all just a terrible grammatical tragedy. maybe if they don't see the link right away or have to work a little bit to find it, some of them won't bother.
-
Oh man, then they'd all come here instead. Can I get a collective shudder?
How about a "faint from fear?"
*thud*
-
Let's have some mass hysteria! I was reading yesterday about an incident in Beverly Minster a couple of decades ago when one of the choirboys fainted - and over the next twenty minutes all the rest did, one by one, until there were no choirboys left to carry on singing.
-
What did the priest put in their communion wine?
-
... date rape drugs?
-
See now that was like the equivalent of people who take perfectly amusing pictures and turn them into pointless demotivators. His joke was perfectly effective left as a rhetorical question, but then you made it a touch corny by stating the clearly implied answer.
Also, as to the piddling arguments about how easy it is to memorize the forum URL (because lord knows I love piddling arguments) note that if I didn't remember the forum URL I would never have been able to start this thread in the first place. I just noticed the link was (apparently) gone because I'm one of the few regulars here who actually reads the comic.
-
Sometimes I forget that the forum is plural and put forum.questionablecontent.net, but then I remember and I add the s.
-
I don't think they're piddling arguments so much as just a sharing of notes in order to ascertain whether we use bookmarks or just type in urls.
In other words, some of us were bored.
-
Truth is Jeph is ashamed of all of you
-
He's been making a terrible comic for like, 2 years now. You think we aren't ashamed of him?
-
Why are you here again?
-
I'm here for the community, man.
-
fuck youuuuuu
-
Well, I'm here for that too.
-
Hi Kieffer
-
Y'know, the fucking
-
I do know
-
What I'm saying, is if you've posted a picture in the photo thread, I've probably jerked off to it.
-
Sam, you know half of the forum is waiting for you to be 18.
-
I'd like it on record that I'm not one of those people.
Just, you know, so that it isn't awkward if we end up sharing a room at EdithCon.
Liz, on the other hand...
-
Sam isn't attending Camp Edith, is he?
-
Geez Sam, way to make it sound like I'm a burden :-D
-
Jodie I think you are rad and I am looking forward to epic hangouts in my car on the way to Camp Edith.
(Sam stop being silly.)
-
Sam I am waiting for you to turn 18.
What for? You decide.
-
Camp Edith keeps making me think of Edith in very tight jeans and a ridiculous hat, with a slight lisp and a tendency to throw her hands in the air and shout "Oh my GAWD dahling!" a lot.
I hope this is not what Camp Edith is really like.
-
I'm not so sure that you're against Edith in very tight jeans.
-
Although Edith is wonderful and amazing and rad and all those things, the fact that she is twice my age means that I am not particularly sexually attracted to her.
Which I'd imagine she's quite glad about.
I need to find my tight jeans, incidentally, I was planning on wearing them on New Year's Eve but they seem to have gone walkabout. I hope they come back soon.
-
Haven't you ever heard about May-December romances?
Besides the idea of someone half my age not being sexually attracted to me is going to ruin my mid-life crisis so I refuse to accept that it is true.
-
Wait, what? I've been offline for two months, what is this Camp Edith thingie? Refer me please to the correct topic as I am lazy and unobservant. Also, good to be back online, I missed y'all.
-
Camp Edith is just a silly name for a bunch of us crashing at Edith's for a couple of weeks around ChicagoCon because it's too far to fly over just for a weekend. It's not really a Thing so much as the leadup to a Thing (namely ChicagoCon) but it will be fun nevertheless :-)
