Title: Religious ads on QC
Post by: Wedley on 19 Jan 2009, 12:38
Hey guys...

Did anyone else notice a heap of pseudo-scientific pro-Christian crap turning up on the site today?

Any theories?

Ah yes, I see. One of them goes here (http://www.gnmagazine.org/afterdeath/?S=2&gclid=CM3Os73lm5gCFQpuGgodkDTGmA).

Yes, I saw them a couple of days ago. Pretty strange, since the ads here are mostly atheist-leaning.

Probably just a random google-ad style thing.

All ads are full of fail. Firefox + Adblock FTW. I know ads are a part of how Jeph keeps the comic coming, but I choose to make it up in T-shirts...

I know some people will say that those ads are just random, the outcome of just some completely blind ad targeting and rotation process somewhere, but it seems much clearer to me that they are definitely planned, Intelligently Advertised, if you will, by some conscious being that wants to tell us something.   A number of prominent scientists and politicians support this idea of IA -- please try to spread the word.

This is what is happening more or less.

This was well played.

Jeph's control over things like this is limited. he can place things on a banned list, but he can't anticipate everyone that might place an offensive add out there, so he basically has to wait until they start showing up on his sight. Also, he has to care enough to place them on the banned list.
