Title: Dora's Attraction to Martin
Post by: Topher on 22 Jan 2009, 07:50
This is just a thought, but I think I know why Dora was initially attracted to Martin. We already know that Dora discovered her bisexuality through Veronica, and Martin does look like his mom, so does it not make sense that Dora would, on a subconscious level, see Veronica when she sees Martin? It may not be that way now, but this was probably what caused the initial attraction on Dora's part. Does anyone else think this is possible, or am I just looking to deeply into this?

This is just a thought, but I think I know why Dora was initially attracted to Martin. It is a comic and the writer decided that is what should happen

{spelling nazi}

I think you mean "Marten."

"Martin" isn't a character in QC that I know of.

{/spelling nazi}

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I don't know how many people here read "Flaky Pastry," but does anyone else see the similarity between her and Zintiel in 1323?

No no no, that's someone else entirely.

Don't tell me you've all forgotten about Fay! She would always walk into a room and be all, "Hey hey hey, I'm Fay Fay Fay!" That was her thing!

Okay, I did misspell 'Marten' as 'Martin', but only because it was the last name of a girl I used to date.
Also, this is a prime example of Godwin's law in action.

Two things:

1) Godwin's law tends to refer to people referring to OTHERS as Nazis, seriously.
2) I referred to MYSELF, thus MOCKING Godwin's Law.

However, it is reasonably true, since I used the word Nazi.

Godwin's says that as a Usenet discussion continues, the probability of a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis increases to 1. So, disregarding your casual abuse of the populous ad dictionarium fallacy, your second point eats itself.

No, no, no!  Don't disregard it!  I enjoy a good fallacy as much as the next jerk.

But you're right, even in referencing myself, I did indeed follow Godwin's law.

My second point has become Oroborous.

Woohoo!

Topher, that's positively creepy. And yet, I can see it, on that level and also as a connection to her heroine.

Not possible. As Talky Place forumites, we can never dissect Jeph's work into fine enough little bits. Each day we must grind more finely.
