Title: that godawful new Underworld movie
Post by: Trollstormur on 25 Jan 2009, 07:00
it was fucking awful, don't watch it. cool props, though. victor's costumes were superb.

i purposefully didn't watch many scenes because Rhona Mitra's lips are fucking horrifying.

In one scene, I thought she looked like a dude.

edit: i want my $13 back.

Yeah, the big lips and strong features always made her look kind of drag queenish to me.

Pics like this don't help.

On a scale of -10 to 0, how bad?

I saw the movie earlier today.  Sure, it may not have been a great flick, but it was ok.  Not nearly as bad as OP is making it out to be.

I think the main problem with it was that the story was too rushed.  I went in there expecting to see all the events that lead up to the war, like how Lucian and Sonja's relationship first started, but that wasn't the case.  When the movie starts off, Lucian and Sonja are already together.  Really though, I guess if you saw the first movie, there's no point in seeing this one.

Really there is no point in seeing any of these movies. They are all just so many kinds of awful. I mean, I'm glad Bill Nighy's working, but jesus christ.

You paid thirteen fucking dollars for a movie ticket?

I got dragged along to see the first Underworld movie when it was in cinemas.

"Adult ticket for Underworld, please" just didn't sound right.

I too saw the first one at the cinema but at least got to ask for a student rate ticket. Which is probably my fondest memory of that flick.

One person I know described the new one as the best of the series, but that struck me as like being the tallest pygmy in the village.

I plan on seeing it, eventually. You know, when I don't have to pay much for it, or pay for it at all.

Underworld.
Is this the Underworld you mean?

I was hoping you were talking about Don DeLillo for some reason.

Watch until 2:43. (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=8zcvDDwJVeI)

Not that there was a real point to that. I just love the punchline there.

There is no point without K. Beckinsale.

There is no point without K. Beckinsale in a shiny catsuit.

Fixed that for you.

I saw this film the other night and I was actually quite impressed with it. No it wasn't an incredible example of pure cinematic mastery, it was a film about vampires and werewolves fighting each other. Honestly I'm not quite sure what other people were expecting from this film but evidently it was something other than what I expected (vampires fighting werewolves).

It wasn't amazing and it could have been better but I don't begrudge the $10 I spent on the ticket (I am, however, glad that I went on Tightarse Tuesday because I probably would have felt a little ripped off if I payed more).

I found that the director was a fan of action scenes that show no scenes of the actual action and 13 shots of the character's feet.  It really bothered me at some point that it was supposed to be a dramatic battle scene and I couldn't tell what was going on.

That's a pretty fashionable technique in most recent action films, I'm rather sorry to say. I mean, sure it's meant to convey the craziness and chaos of fighting and stuff but c'mon, I want to see a guy get hit, not just assume that it happened. If I didn't want to see what was going on I'd listen to a radio play.

What kind of career move is it for Michael Sheen to go playing a cheesy werewolf in a bad movie, then the emperor of fucking rome, then in broadway or whereever the hell it was he acted live, and then go back to playing a cheesy werewolf in a bad movie?

Eh, it was dumb. Nuff said.

By way of well-reviewed peformances in major roles in two pretty universally acclaimed films, namely the Queen and Frost/Nixon.
