So I was just mucking about around the internet and I found this neat show! It's been around for a couple years but I just found out about it. The show is called Soft Focus. It is hosted by Sir Ian Svenonius, formerly of Dischord favourites the Nation of Ulysses and Make-Up. The format basically consists of Ian interviewing a bunch of really interesting figures in the world of independent music, including Henry Rollins, Calvin Johnson, Ian Mackaye, and Mark E. Smith.
My favourite interviews are the ones with Will Oldham (http://www.vbs.tv/shows.php?show=1084) and Billy Childish (http://www.vbs.tv/shows.php?show=1092).
So check it out!

But yeah, this show is really really great. When I first saw it, I watched it fairly compulsively. The Will Oldham episode especially I've rewatched over and over. I sort of fell of during the second season for no real reason. Once exams are done, I think I'll get back into it.
I love how insane Ian Svenonius. On one hand, it could all be an act. But this man seems to be living this act, and has been at least since the rhetoric of Nation Of Ulysses. He's a genuinely bizarre character, and makes for fascinating television. This is the best thing Vice has ever associated themselves with.

Man, that other thread is 2 years old.

Aww.. I ran a search for "Soft Focus" but not "Ian Svenonius" because I figured there would be a bunch of posts about him that didn't have anything to do with the show.

I certainly don't, just watched the Billy Childish episode. Fantastic.

Ian is interviewing Steve Albini in Chicago tonight!
