Is there a character that gets on your nerves? Y'see, I just don't like Penelope. She seems completely rigid in every conversation she has. She's a bitch, without having Faye's endearing pushiness. And she always thinks she's right! But rather than start a thread bitching out Penelope, I figure everyone's probably got one character they love to hate. So, share yours, and your reasons if you've got them, in here.
-
I dont like Wil because I hate when people use ridiculously obscure words just because they have nothing better to do then read a dictionary.
-
I hate Sven because he has no redeeming or interesting qualities, and Faye for pretty much the same reason.
I hate Penelope, Marten, Raven and the robots because they are boring.
The only characters in this comic I probably like are Hannelore, Steve and Wil.
-
Ellen. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=218)
I can't tell you exactly why. She just always seemed a little... ditzy?
Anyway, we haven't seen her in ages, so maybe she's dropped off the map.
(Or maybe now that I've mentioned her, Jeph will bring her back just to torture me. DAMN YOU, YOU UNICORN-FONDLING BASTARD!!!!1!!)
-
I actually really like Penny's character. She's doesn't exactly fit in with everyone else which makes her role interesting.
My least favorite character is the new Faye though...She's lost her wits, and her wits was what made her an interesting character
-
I know I'm in a minority here, but Steve has never worked for me. No flames, no hatred, just hasn't engaged me like the other characters have.
-
yeah Faye has lost her dinosaur-adjective combinations, her fiery snarkyness, and a lot of otehr things, she needs to bring dem back.
-
Going back through the archives, Faye's been getting surprisingly little air time recently. Marten, Dora, and Hannelore have been front stage lately.
When Faye does appear, there's not much for her to do except stand in front of exploding espresso machines and exploding quasi-relationships. So she hasn't had a lot of scope for her old wit.
Which she proved she still has, good old Miss Muffin Cthulhu.
-
I don't like that talking Tyranosaurus Rex. He's always stomping on things
-
I hate Sven, just as I hate anyone responsible for bring pop-country into the world.
-
I dont like Wil because I hate when people use ridiculously obscure words just because they have nothing better to do then read a dictionary.
My natural speech mannerism and vocabulary are rather unusual, and I really wish they weren't because of the above. People automatically write you off as trying too hard, or taking the mickey. It's lead to not only many an awkward moment (like the time i enthusiastically asked the skateboarder "How does one learn to skateboard?"), or, more commonly, now I'm aware of my bizzare way of speaking, painful silences or monosyllabic responses, because I'm too scared to talk to people now.
English is my first language, but casual vernacular does not come naturally to me. It probably comes of moving schools 13 times and missing out on grammer lessons altogether as every school taught at a different range. Always the new kid with her nose in a book, makes for a complete lack of casual conversational skills.
Yeah, I understand that ppl don't like Wil, he's awkward, shy and different.
Funily enough, I hated Dora to begin with. She didn't have the same depth of character as Faye and Marten.
I'd say Steve would be my least favourite. He comes in the story, and you think he's going to get some air time.... then he disappears. He's Martens best friend, and I thought he's be more deserving of some character development, but now I'm beginning to think he's just a filler token male to balance the abundence of women in the QC world. Shame.
-

That's actually why I like Wil. Plus poetry.Yay!
I like Dora and Marten as a couple, but I agree that Dora's character lacks the developement of Marten and Faye.
I didn't like Natasha at all, or that girl Steve was dating recently, can't remember her name just now.
Plus: I was just thinking that I wondered what happened to Angus 'cause I really liked him and TADA! He has returned! :-D
-

I definitely agree with you there - for such a long-running character I'd have expected more from him, and he does seem a bit token I feel bad for saying that though because I think he's based on a real person? Not sure where I got that from!
And I'm pro-Wil; I love poetry and awkward guys, although he's definitely melodramatic with it.
-

I wrote comments for the report cards on Sunday, for one of my students, I wrote:

-
I'm sort of anti-Sven, actually. Even if he's witty, charismatic, intelligent, and all that other stuff, I really don't care. He's still a dick. And, I'm pro-Wil as well, so I don't really enjoy seeing Sven pick on him.
I agree with what others said about Faye losing her wit recently, but I'm still personally cool with her.
-edit-
Oh, altered_carbon also posted about Sven.
-
Detested Meena. She played Steve from the minute she met him. She made sure she controlled the situation and let him fall for her, then wham, "Oh yeah I forgot to tell you I live with my ex." I am thankful she is gone.
I kinda like Penelope, actually. At first she was portrayed as a pushover and easily manipulated. Then out of nowhere she'd have these huge rants. It's kinda unexpected like Raven's random nuggets of wisdom.
-
I don't like that talking Tyranosaurus Rex. He's always stomping on things
Certain people can do this joke and certain people can't.
Don't you step on my toes buddy, I will destroy you.

Oh, altered_carbon also posted about Sven.
I agree with this. A lot.
Specifically that part about Sven. I don't even mind that he's a dick (though cheating is right up there with punching kittens), but he's a slutty dick, and that just makes him unlikable as fuck, but not fun to hate.
-
I like Penelope. She doesn't show up that much, does she?
I dont like Wil because I hate when people use ridiculously obscure words just because they have nothing better to do then read a dictionary.
Maybe he's just well-read. He is a bit pretentious, but I didn't think he was just showing off his vocabulary.

That's brilliant.
-
I rather disliked Faye when she was pummeling Marten on a regular basis, but have since warmed to her.
Tai can cause me to gnash my teeth on occasion; ex: when she came into season over Hanners.
My antipathy for Sven has cooled since he's actually been developed.
About Steve, I am ambivalent. Of course, when he fell for Meena, I wished to festoon him with Allosaur treats.
The only QC character I've ever truly heartily detested is Meena. Bleah!
-
Angus.
His entire personality so far has been "If she says 'no', she means 'yes'!". There is nothing good about him.
-
See, I just see it as Angus not being easily put off by a prickly exterior. I think maybe he believes there is more to Faye than the snarky, standoffish face she's shown him and he's interested enough to be willing to risk rejection repeatedly to find out what that is.
Then again, maybe he just likes to tilt at windmills, who knows?
Meena! Yes, that's the name of the girl Steve dated who I just did NOT like in the least.
-
There's a difference between being willing to risk rejection and being clearly rejected, yet refusing to go away.
-
I've never liked Faye all that much. While she is clearly one of the most developed characters, she reminds me of those girls who never got out of the middle school stage of flirting. Her past was certainly an interesting story line to follow, but I never found Faye herself a particularly likable person.
I like Wil and Angus. I don't despise Sven, I just think he needs to grow up a little.
Hannelore is my absolute favorite. I think I'm part of the majority, though. I relate to her a lot, actually, which may seem odd. I named my laptop Winslow.
-
Angus- though I strongly suspect that he was created for the sole purpose of being disliked
-
I'm ok with Meena, she seemed cool and interesting. Shame things got complicated, but that so often happens, and it's not necessarily her fault.
I can understand disliking Faye; while some of the bitchiness is thawing, it's not really being replaced with anything. What does a hedgehog look like without its prickles?
-
Dave. To nice. Then random proposal. Not nice. Contradicts personality. Or shows true personality. Either way I found him creepy, and to be a dick.
-
Dave is a douche for proposing to another guy's girlfriend, and she is a bitch for accepting
-
Dora. She sucks as much as always.
-
Ugh, Hannelore, hands down. She irritates me every time she makes an appearance. I've never found her funny or endearing, just a distraction. Never been a big Dora fan either, or Penelope, for that matter. Oddly, I do enjoy Sven.
-
Detested Meena. She played Steve from the minute she met him. She made sure she controlled the situation and let him fall for her, then wham, "Oh yeah I forgot to tell you I live with my ex." I am thankful she is gone.
Oddly, I never even noticed that. Or paid attention. But thank you, I shall concur.

-
There are convincing reasons to hate everyone in this comic.
But, I hate Dora.
-
And she always thinks she's right!
does anyone ever think otherwise?
why would you hold an opinion if you considered it wrong?
-
Granted, lolwut, but there's such a thing as openmindedness, and she ain't got that! #1289 (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1289)
-
That's not even close-mindedness, that's locking your mind, putting it in a safe with heavy chains around it and throwing it in the ocean, in hopes if it not being touched by any other form of human perception or belief
It's all good
-
I'm going to come right out and say it: Hannelore.
Sure, HATE is a pretty strong word...but no other character gets on my nerves as much as she does when she's forcing her habits on other people. I don't care if she feels the need to wash her hands to the bone, but refusing to serve a guy some coffee because he didn't wash his? Screw her.
-

when was she refusing to serve people? she doesnt work at the coffee shop, why would she do that? I'm not sure what you are talking about hanners pretty much keeps to herself
-
I despise Faye. I hate her guts. I like watching her get bitch-slapped by Karma at every turn.
Which is why I actually miss her in the comic. I want to see more of her falling on her face. I want to see her snarky, bitchy ass run its yap and then get yet another Karmic Bitch Slap.
That just never gets old for me.
S
-

She was helping Marten out when he was holding the fort when Raven didn't turn up: 1002 (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1002).
-
I don't like Hannelore because she replaced the original Hannelore. Shewuzoresum.
-
i thought people liked the hassle, this why they went there.
I think she fits in fine lol.
-
It's not like she has a crippling mental disorder or anything
-
The guy that works in the record store. He is a prick.
-
Is this someone in QC I can't remember, or are we discussing people in RL now?
Because there's this greeter at Wal-mart...
-
324 (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=324)
-
It's not like she has a crippling mental disorder or anything
My understanding is, if a mental disorder is causing a serious disruption to yourself or the people around you, THEN it's time to seek psychiatric help.
....the fact that she's GETTING help that isn't working explains why Dr. Corrine is my other least favorite character.
-

here i was thinking she refused to serve that guy because she was afraid that he'd taint her hands or something
but no, she's a bigot
Granted, lolwut, but there's such a thing as openmindedness, and she ain't got that! #1289 (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1289)
openmindedness isn't the quality of thinking that other people may be right, it's the quality of being willing to reconsider your beliefs in the face of new evidence
i feel reasonably certain that penelope would be willing to reconsider a belief in any particular christian sect if any actual evidence for it came to light
-
Bigot? What the fuck are you talking about? :?
-
Bigot? What the fuck are you talking about? :?
(you made it sound as though she was doing it because she thought he was an inferior person for not washing, instead of being deathly afraid of the germs on his hands)
-
My problem is that she got angry at a man for refusing to conform to the whims of her mental disorder.
And the handwashing is just the first part. When she asks if he brought toothpaste and a toothbrush? Seriously? How do HIS teeth affect HER?
I have compassion for mentally diseased people. They need help. But it's obvious Dr. Corrine isn't giving Hannelore the help she needs. She's invading other people's lives to an insane degree here.
-
I don't like Wil much, mostly for that storyline where Faye was made out to be the bad guy for not giving some random guy off the street an 'in' on her co-worker.
-

faye was made out to be the bad guy for sabotaging the random guy off the street and hoping to see fireworks instead of just telling him to fuck off

Still not seeing the problem.
-
I think lolwut's getting at telling him to fuck off would have been OK, but what Faye was doing would've been annoying for Penelope and humiliating for Wil.
-
It's the difference between putting up a No Trespassing sign and putting up a Welcome sign with a booby trap behind it.
Faye was embarrassed about that one herself. #1190.
-
humiliating for Wil.
If you're gonna walk in and ask some chick you've never met before to tell you how you can get your bone on with a coworker of hers.... well, you're begging to be humiliated.
-
Pintsize is extremely annoying.
-
Pintsize drives me up a WALL.
I'm also not a huge fan of Dora or Sven.
-
That guy who does the newsposts.
-
humiliating for Wil.
If you're gonna walk in and ask some chick you've never met before to tell you how you can get your bone on with a coworker of hers.... well, you're begging to be humiliated.
Actually, if you read the comic that it starts with, he originally just comes in to ask when she'll be in next.
1186 (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1186) is the one.
It is then Faye who cuts Wil off, and then sets him up for humiliation using the guise of helping him.
-
I've grown deprecative of Marten...
As off late he only seems to be the playball of whatever storyline or event occurs around him. In my opinion he has totally lost his persona and character stability... ~~
Sometimes I just want to kick him in the crotch and make him say
"I am not just a clever line at the end of a comic featuring one or two musical remarks, I am a free man and I hurt SO BADLY in my crotch!"
Favourite is Hanners because of her originality.
-
I like Faye as a character. If I knew her in real life she'd piss me off endlessly, because there's never an excuse for bitchy behaviour, but as a character she's entertaining.
Same goes for Pintsize.
But, Soulsynger, I agree about Martyn... seems like the most interesting thing he ever does is say something sarcastic and / or passive aggressive, and Dora or someone says "OMG were you just sarcastic and / or passive-aggressive?" and it's a huge deal. Surely he can't be that dull.
-
I actually know—well knew—someone exactly like that. Prided herself on being dull, too. So go figure.
I think Marten's supposed to be in a funk lately, though.
No, I don't mean Deathmole is trying a new style.

Pintsize is extremely annoying.
Pintsize is evil. But he's really really tiny, so it's OK. He's like a cat. If cats were as big as collies, they'd be insufferable and nobody would put up with them. But when you're that tiny, evil is cute.
-
Cats aren't evil. Cats are awesome. A cat is a liquid that keeps itself in a solid shape because it wants snuggles.
-
If cats were as big as collies, they'd be insufferable and nobody would put up with them.
What do you mean 'if'? Some cats are as big as collies. In the U.S. they're called pumas. "Insufferable" is, I suppose, one way to describe our attitude towards them, since we're working on killing them off so we can live in places with 'views.' On the other hand, I can't recall the figures for people who keep even bigger cats as pets (something like 10,000), but it's large enough to disprove your theory. Obviously 'somebody' (in this case, suicidal idiots) doesn't feel this way.
I do agree, though, that were Pintsize, oh, say, Tengallonsize, he'd probably have been scrapped long ago as a menace. At the same time, I sometimes wonder if Marten's programmed him to be this way, to get away with stuff Marten thinks he himself cannot.
-
I dont think marten knows enough programming to alter complex personalities. I think pintsize's crazyness is from a list of viruses and trojans slowly eating away at his hard drive
-
He is, after all, a Windows machine.

I like Faye as a character. If I knew her in real life she'd piss me off endlessly, because there's never an excuse for bitchy behaviour, but as a character she's entertaining.
You know, I think that sums up my opinion of her, except I enjoy anytime she's hurt. As a character, I find her the most satisfying, because of the joy her character provides as a focus of my hatred. So, love the Faye character in the comic, becuase she's there for me to hate, despise, and happily heap derision upon.
Yay, Faye, you bitch! Take another one in the chops cuz Uncle Scotty needs a cheap laugh!
S
-
Pintsize, though, did keep his usual personality after a virus disinfection: #269.
-
I really can't stand Hannelore. I thought she was cute at first, but got tired of her really fast because she's a very one-dimensional character. and the fact that she's in practically every strip these days is only making her more annoying to me. Penelope also has a tendency to get on my nerves...
I like all the other characters, though!
-
I don't much like Penelope either.

Nope. Pizza Girl had freckles. And smiled sometimes.

Mmmm...Pizza.
I could never date Pizza Girl. She'd complain I only pay attention to her when she's working.
Mmmm...Pizza.

For all the Steve- dislikers, I question whether or not it is a dislike or merely we feel a bit of pity for him. He's kind of turned into nothing more than a basket of non-stop relationship problems when we see him, ever since the first break-up with Ellen over the whole "moving too fast" issue. So now he's either a raging alcoholic on par with how Faye used to be, or being emo over the fact his love life is shitty. He's kind of a gag character now, just someone to pull out of a box so Martin can have that one (one) guy friend to talk to about guy stuff, though to be honest that never really happens either.
As for characters I dislike, it has changed over time, first I didn't like Faye then Dora. Faye originally cause she was a bitch to certain un-understandable extremes, even finding out about her father's death didn't completely redeem her. Now that she is changing, she acts more like a person someone would actually want to be friends with, still an asshat at times, but a fun asshat. Dora has gone from being somewhat depressed, yet still possessing a strong backbone, to now, where she claims to be in love with Martin but is overly paranoid as shit about it jumps at honestly little things.
-
Hmm. I WANT to hate Sven, but I find that I really like him. Dora is pretty 2-dimensional as of late (pun intended), as does Marten. I do not care for Pintsize as much anymore, but he has been out of the picture for a while.
And hey, don't rag on Wil. He's badass. MEGA badass. I also like him and Penelope as a couple, they're sweet.
I LOVE HANNERS. She's amazing, and I think her OCD is demonstrated really effectively.
-
Dora is two-dimensional, as does Marten.
-
I have compassion for mentally diseased people. They need help. But it's obvious Dr. Corrine isn't giving Hannelore the help she needs. She's invading other people's lives to an insane degree here.
Two things here:
1. It has never been stated that Hannelore has not improved in the long run. For all we know, she was ten times worse when she was younger. Some people (I know this from experience) can improve tremendously and still have their disorders preventing them from behaving in a normal way.
2. Counseling takes so much time to be effective it hurts. Again, I know this from experience.
But eh. I could be wrong about her improving.
-
Hannelore has made friends and stepped out of her comfort zone. As far as we know, she's no longer alphabetizing the magazines in her therapist's office. She's made progress.
-
Dora is two-dimensional, as does Marten.
Shuddup. It was originally "Dora seems pretty two-dimensional lately, as does Martin" but then I remembered that hey, what the fuck, this is the internet and it's fine to assert my belief, so changed it to "Dora is pretty two-dimensional" and forgot to change the rest of the sentence.
I'm only saying this because I saw your post without reading mine first, and I was thinking, "Ha, the stupid fucker has no grammar sense." Then... wait...
-
lily-kiernan, for that post you deserve an Internet. Best laugh I've had in two days.

I know. But failing on the internet is a major symptom of OCD. So... I guess I deserve it?

Quoted again for truth^2.
I'm torn on Angus, I think he has potential to be a good guy and all but right now he is just so NEEDY and clueless. Kind of reminds me of one of my exes that way. (Which is probably why I can't bring myself to really hate Angus just yet.)
-
Dora is two-dimensional, as does Marten.
they are all two dimensional because they are drawn on a flat screen
-
Jeph should have a special 3D strip, and we'd all have to gho out and get 3d glasses.
That would be a good strip
-
that would be such a hassle, I'd rather just OH GOD THE BIRD JUST RIPPED THROUGH THAT HAWK FUCKING AWESOME
-
Hannelore is my favorite character. Every other character is completely predictable. Hanners' perspective and reactions and the dynamics of the two when they collide really is fairly unique, and I appreciate it muchly.
I sort of hate every other character except Wil, Penny and Faye. Dora and Marten have gotten excruciatingly boring for me, and the others float in such wide, eliptical and fairly uninteresting orbits they're pretty pointless.
Especially Pintsize. At some point his existence may have been funny...but I just don't get why he's in the comic anymore. He's...sort of a troublemaker? He helps Hanners react to a wider range of things? I guess.
Still, let it not be said I don't like this comic, as I do, for many reasons. Especially parts that strike me as hot, such as the most recent one that reminds me a lot of my girlfriend. If you're a guy, you don't get to hear enough from women about how they actually might want sex. Pretty good for the libido to be reminded that women can get as horny as guys can (so many of 'em seem socialized to not broadcast sexual urges).
-

This is why the internet should have a border patrol.

This is why the internet should have a border patrol.
Hey, it's not like I find the characters attractive. But the scenarios they find themselves in help me envision similar situations in my own life.
Don't really see how Pintsize could ever remind me of anyone in real life...

I find myself liking Hannelore less and less as time goes on. Her character's been exaggerated a bit too much, and while it's still believable and funny, she gets way too much focus. I don't like reading a steady storyline of comics then all of a sudden cutting to Hanners doing something completely unrelated for no good reason. I loathed Meena, glad she's out of the picture. Angus is kind of irritating, but endearing enough to make it work. I despise Pintsize. He's simply not funny.

The bird. Everytime I'm thinking to myself "Yay, new QC comic tonight!", refresh my browser till 2 hours past bedtime, then wake up in the morning to go check what was posted, and that.... THING.... shows up, my forehead is grateful that I'm no anime character.

For those who don't like Meena, did you ever notice that "Meena" is an anagram for "enema"?

And Marten is Mr Neat
That's just a cool nickname

Dora.... Road.
Hannelore.... Lane Horne? Lore... Loan... La... hmm.
Pintsize... Zips tine. No, Tin Zips.

Oh man. Hannelore seriously pisses me off. I actually really liked her at first, too. But the whole "Look how cute and quirky and OCD I am" thing got really old really fast. It's so predictable.

I think that's one of the things Marten likes about her. Every night.
