Well, as the title implies, I've started a music blog. This mostly came about as a result of my desire to share and talk about music with as many people as possible, so I figured having a centralized place to post bands and albums would be a good thing. I'm planning on updating it every few days or so with a new band page or album from mediafire. Generally speaking, the music posted will be anywhere from various metal genres, experimental rock, electronic or noise music, post-rock, and various indie genres. So, if anyone is interested in having a discussion about these kinds of music, plus getting some free music out of the deal, here is the link. Thanks in advance to anyone who checks it out.

Quasi-necro, but I have gotten the blog on a weekly schedule at this point. I'm updating every Saturday unless that specific week calls for a delay, as it does occasionally. Come on out and get sum tunes.
-
You are the only person who seems to like Choral as much as I do.
-
Choral fans UNITE.
-
I am actually listening to it right now. It makes me want to go for a walk in the forest and lay down in a small sun-kissed clearing and drift in and out of sleep forever.
-
I think the overwhelming feeling it inspires in me is the state of being safe and at home. It's like that feeling you get when you lay down in front of a warm fireplace in your night clothes.
-
Follow'd.
-
I update my blog pretty much every day but it's all pretty gay music.
-
The reasons for the weekly update schedule are: I want to give people time to digest the records I post without it being a massive and impenetrable wall of uploads, and I write all of the reviews myself, wanting to focus on quality over quantity. It's less of a "HEY GUYS COME GET TONS OF FREE MUSIC" and more of a "Hey guys, here is some music that has personally touched me in a big way. I hope maybe it does that for some of you, too. For that reason, I'm providing a download link and a link to buy it if you're so inclined. Enjoy it, or not."
-
Yo Koremora Imma let you finish but Kvp has the best music blog of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Well, updates have been continuing as usual. This week's review was the sexcellent new Bear in Heaven record.
-
Just posting to let you know I like your writing style.
Keep it up!
-
Yeah, I like it too.
I only read three or four posts but not once did the writing get in my face and make me aware that I was reading something someone had written. It's very...uhmm....unobtrusive? I'm not sure what the best adjective would be but I think you get what I mean.
-
It's very thoughtful and you can tell he actually engages with the music instead of just posting a link and a list of bands that sound the same.
-
Thanks, guys. I appreciate the positive feedback. :-)
-
thats a picture of sigur ros is it not?

It is a picture of Sigur Ros, yep.

Gonna borrow the thread to plug KvP's blog again because I am now co-writing (co-blogging?) it.

As for Koremora's blog, I like the writing style, very involved and eloquent. Keep up the good work.

Damn man, that's good writin' right there.
-
Just put Vampire Weekend's Contra on there. Yes, I'm don't take myself seriously enough to dislike Vampire Weekend. I like Contra better than the self-titled, even.
(side note, top of 2009 is on there as well now)

Interesting take on the album. It didn't really work for me because it stripped away a lot of what I liked about the debut (mostly, the percussion) for more traditional electronic pop sounds, but I definitely agree that it's a fun album.
The whole "they're rich so people don't like them" straw man is a little tired, though. I can't count on my hands the number of reviews I've read referring to how people don't like them for this reason, and I'm yet to actually read a review or hear someone express an opinion along those lines. I feel like a music mag made an off-the-cuff comment when their first album was released and its been conflated into this big thing... but maybe I'm just not well-read enough on the subject (I do recall Nick Diamonds' scathing attack on the band, but the gist of that was mostly "jesus guys stop ripping off Graceland")
-
Most of the people who I have heard express this opinion don't write reviews.
-
"Giving Up the Gun" is so fucking good
-
oh my god I know

p4k has spoken (http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13807-contra/)
-
Hey, I like your blog quite a bit! I look forward to reading more from you.
-
It did occur to me while reading your 2009 list that pretty much every single blogger on the face of the planet does 'obligatory' end of year lists. Which leads me to wonder; a) who is making everyone do this, and b) does no one actually want to? We must investigate and legislate against this bizarrely specific form of slavery post-haste.
Having said that you put Mew at #4 so I like it already. Keep up the good work.
-
Have you guys ever thought about joining forces and all doing writing on one blog? Just throwing it out there.
-
Yes I would love not having to bookmark so many blogs. My clicker finger gets tired sometimes.
-
the world doesn't need a blog that reads like the mediafire thread.
blogs need a common theme genre wise. the mediafire thread could use one too but it doesn't and thats why its such a clusterfuck.
-
/ great resource
-
Yeah, fuck them merging bands. I have to say that Sean's is the only music blog that I follow. Whenever I see him mention a band that is emo + some mathy guitar work I get the most raging hardon ever.
Basically what I'm saying is, keep it up, Sean!
-

This actually could be a good idea, considering most of us have wack-ass update schedules (aka whenever we feel like it)
-
Presumably something like that would be arranged once Pocketjury goes up.
-
Yeah, if PocketJury happens that'd be rad. I just suggested it 'cause you get to merge audiences and means randoms reading your blog will see it updated more often and with different stuff.
I guess it depends on what your intention for the blog is.

Well, you, KvP and Koremora actually review stuff at length which most people in the mfire thread don't. Mfire thread is people copy/pasting reviews with no discussion.
-
"common genre theme"
I would hate writing about one genre in specific. I just don't listen to one genre specifically enough to want to base what I share around that pre-conceived idea.

-
wait, wasn't there already a collective forum music blog that failed too?
-
Yup. (http://www.questionablecontent.net/rlblog/)
-
oh ive never been able to find the old link to that, thanks!

To be fair people have already been saying that thread is kinda bloated, if there was ongoing discussion about every release that someone liked in there, it'd be unmanageable. Makes more sense to either have a separate stand-alone all-purpose 'discuss shit you found in the MF thread' thread, or just post about individual bands as you find them.
-
i dont think he means discussion as much as forumites discussing at as much as the person posting it writing about the album. which has always been my main complaint about the medaifire thread, people usually just posting a quote from somewhere or not even saying a word about the album they are putting up. i mean, sure theres the argument of "yr getting free shit dont bitch" but there are plenty of good blogs out there that post good music and say something about it that i would rather read instead.
-
It's a very fair point. Although the fact that those other blogs exist, as you say, rather removes the need for discussion in there. Long thought-out writing is probably better suited to a genre-specific medium, and if the MF thread was that, it would be shit. Better to have both as separate entities and enjoy their strengths than try and compromise, I think.
-
So the mediafire thread is basically sordo
-
every time I post in the mediaf!re thread now I'm not even going to review the album, I'm just going to include a clever graphic that may or may not represent how i feel about it
-
Dogg, don't be like that. I think a lot of us just ignore the albums that don't have any type of summary with them.
-
something like
Spoon - Transference [2010]

Well! Just updated the blog finally, gonna have another one on saturday as usually scheduled. This week's is Women's self-titled album!
-
You should change the "Buy it" link in the Women article to this (http://flemisheye.myshopify.com/products/016-women).
-
Only available for ordering in Canada. I guess I could change it to the Jagjaguwar site, but I generally link Amazon as that's the site most people are comfortable buying from.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot that FE only ships in Canada. Also apparently I can't read the bolded and underlined words :?
Anyway, I don't want to start a debate or anything but it makes me kind of sad that people would rather buy an album from Amazon than directly from an independent label, especially a label as excellent as Jagjaguwar or Flemish Eye.
-
follow'd'd'd'd
-
especially when from the label, it is, uh
cheaper
-
And Amazon thinks their 1st amendment rights include selling Animal Cruelty items. (http://www.examiner.com/x-9726-Seattle-Pet-Laws-Examiner~y2009m5d29-Amazoncom-supports-animal-cruelty)
-
Yeah, I found the Jagjag page and linked to buy from there.
-
Goodness! My Owen Pallett review had some serious issues posting, and I got them resolved tonight. Also, my review for Yeasayer's Odd Blood is up! Both are CD rips! Hooray!
-
Man I love that Yeasayer but the art is so fugly.
Also mediaf!re changed their upload limit to 200mb, in case dividing the albums into two parts is too stressful.
-
Did they? Awesome! So happy.
I love the album art, though. It's fucking nauseous and awesome.
-
One of my local record stores has posters of it lining their windows. When 25 rows of Odd Blood are staring down at you in their bizarre, late-90s CGI glory, it's a little more than nauseating.
-
hahahaha oh god
-
oh man, I did not realize you were in Chapel Hill. You should have seen our trek home from Raleigh to Charlotte. Ugh, slowest I40/85 trip ever.
