Okay, now obviously we enjoy listening to everything we like, otherwise we wouldn't listen to it.
What I want to know about is the albums that you think are fun.
I've been listening to a lot of Dylan since that thread about him, and a lot of the time I've been listening to "Love And Theft". I've been wondering why that is and it's occurred to me - it's fun. He's made a lot of fun songs, and this album isn't short of emotion and point-making. But the recording, the performances (the drum sound stands out to me as well) just all says that Dylan and his band had a hell of a time making this record.
What albums do you listen to just because of the good-time atmosphere of them?

I figure that every album recorded by Tom Lehrer is a fun album, and he definitely sounded like he was having a great deal of fun recording them.
-
Basically any fast tempo'd jazz music
-
Remain in Light
Right up until it gets all down-beat at the end.
-
Yeah, but most of it is so fun that I chose to ignore that.

Right, I don't know how "fun" an album about loss of identity is overall. Though I'll be damned if "The Great Curve" doesn't rock all kinds of ass. (And I still wish it'd made it onto the best album bracket.)
This would be my vote for a fun album:

Fun ... music?
Does such an entity exist?
Sting once said that 'I love you' is not a song. 'I love you ... but you love someone else' is. But then again, what does Sting know?
-
the Holy Fuck LP
Beck- Midnite Vultures
Anything by Junior Senior duh
Also Squawk you are so right about Beulah.
-
Any number of jazz albums, but a personal all-time favourite is the self-titled by the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet.
EDIT: Also either album by the Go! Team. Fun on record, fun live, just all-round FUN.

I AM THE LAZERVIKING!
-
what does Sting know?
How to play a lute, which is dancing very close to knowing absolutely everything there is to know.
-
Suddenly his words seem to hold so much more truth.
-
Fun House.
The minute I hear the opening of Down On The Street I'll get a dopey grin on my face.

-
The Unicorns
yes.
-
That whole album is just about dying and bones and shit but it is definitely oodles of fun.
-
you lose the thread.
sorry!
Psh, you just don't know what fun is.
-
Anything by Logan Whitehurst. Anyone else know about him? I never hear any talk about him.
-
All I know of him is his stuff with the Velvet Teen. I saw a solo show he did several years back that was pretty alright but I had to leave early. It was really sad when the guy died.
-
The Velvet Teen? I have a song by them (In a Steadman Spray), but I have no fucking clue where it came from. I am listening to it now, and it is a good song.
I'm going to go find some more of them for my own personal enjoyment. Done, downloaded Cum Laude
-
Sondre Lerche's Faces Down is a pretty good album for brightening up a rainy day. After the first song, some of the earlier tracks are kindof same-y, but as the album gets on, it just gets better and better. I want to write songs as pretty as this guy does.

Scott Walker - The Drift
Um, yay for meat percussion?
-
Agree to the naming of Violent Femmes' debut.
And I'll add Pixies - Bossanova
Or any Pixies, but even though they have better albums, Bossanova is the most fun one imho.
-
Two "fun" albums that come to mind for me:
The Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army
Primus - Tales From The Punchbowl
-
The Strokes Room On Fire
Basically everything from "What Ever Happened?" to "Under Control" is nothing but musical perfection.

and

I didn't know he died.
The fun album thread just depressed me.
Fuck

Tilly and the Wall's first two albums. You know, before they started shouting about how much they hated people in high school or whatever the hell was going on on the third album.

The Strokes Room On Fire

Nah. That's their best album.

At first I was afraid I didn't listen to any fun music, but then I realized I listen to the funnest music:

Crap, that is the funnest music. I'm glad I jumped on the deluxe soundtrack a couple years back, can't find that anymore on eBay.

Nah. That's their best album.
That's like saying 'that's the best turd out of all the ones on this road.'
Nah, I joke. I haven't heard any of The Strokes' albums.
Although virtually everyone I ask or read talking about The Strokes has said Room On Fire was fookin' awful.
I do love 'Reptilia' though.

Reptilia is great, but that album is pretty weak imo.

Let me just say that before you listen to the album, you should lock away all weaponizable items and entrust the key to somebody reliable and responsible. That way, when you finally do listen, you won't be able to kill those people for playing such a horrible, horrible practical joke on you.
-
Pat, I'm not about to listen to that record. I like two Strokes songs and I'm fine with that how it is.
-
The Grates are essentially the musical equivalent of watching the Saturday morning cartoons you grew up with while eating a big bowl of sugary cereal with extra sugar because your parents aren't up yet.
-
I think the Memento Mori 7" by Ghosts and Vodka is incredibly fun. :-)
-
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/MenWomen%26Children.jpg)
a bunch of post-hardcore/pop-funk lovers (including ex-glassjaw fella todd weinstock) playing the most hilariously, gloriously camp disco tunes ever. imagine your favourite vaguely dancey post-hardcore band being taken roughly by Jamiroquai. fun as fuck!
-
But I don't like Jamiroquai!
-
I am finding Made Out of Babies' "The Ruiner" to be a very fun listen. Been listening almost nonstop for the better part of the week now. It's about as bouncy as noise rock gets.

It's a good song though.
Also, fuck whatever you guys may think:

Dance Gavin Dance - s/t
Sounds like if guys from a post-hardcore band tried to have fun writing/recording an album and transferred that fun into what you are hearing on the album - and pulled it off so hard. If you play guitar at all, this album becomes exponentially fun (fun^3, at least) - some of the guitar parts are ridiculous, like the two-handed tapping part in "Reprogramming Mental Programming" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_AtZCNr4uE)

If you'll allow me to step outside the bounds of the thread-topic for a moment . . . Seriously, "PWRFL"? "Natalie Portman's Shaved Head"?? I guess after half a decade of rock 'n' roll we've finally reached the point when all the good band-names have been used.
-
You know one Strokes song, you know them all. Seriously.
It's a good song though.
I dunno, the two I like are pretty dissimilar, and the third one that I know (that being ALL THE OTHERS I'VE HEARD) is dissimilar to them. I'd say they have three songs... and I like two of them.
-

No way in hell, man, people just don't look at enough movie titles. For example, I am trying to form a band with some friends of mine in Alaska for when I return there, and I wanted to name it "The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas" and was shot down because "No way in hell am I ever playing any faggy country shit."
I am officially calling dibs on that band name, by the way.
-
You're welcome to it.
-
Pat, putting aside that I know you, I would go see that band based on name alone.
-
Pretty much anything Me First and the Gimme Gimmes counts as fun. I am, however, pretty disappointed with their cover of Billy Joel's Only the Good Die Young mostly because I've been wanting to cover that song since I was in High School (not that long after it was originally released) and my version-in-my-mind was always better.
-
Franz Ferdinand's "You Could Have It So Much Better"
It's not an AMAZING ALBUM, but it's solid, and I've been listening to it on repeat since it took eleven hours to download yesterday. I actually laughed out loud when I heard the first song the second time, just because it made me so happy.

natalie portman's shaved head is the kind of music you'd make if you only ever read vice magazine and someone had to describe the idea of music to you

weird... i just programmed a kaoss controller with data from hipster runoff's css coding and the result was the song "sophisticated sideways ponytail"
