Same rules as round one.
A few points of note:
- Most votes: NMH - Aeroplane with 48.
- Fewest votes: Pavement and Belle & Sebastien, each with 10.
- Closest matches: Black Sabbath vs. Sonic Youth. Sabbath was losing by one vote, but negative creep & jens both voted for it, tipping the scale. I was really hoping a 1 seed would be toppled by a 16, but just like in NCAA basketball, it has never happened. Also, Bedhead vs. Mountain Goats was a 1-vote win. Thirdly, Boris vs. Modest Mouse was a 1-point win. Jens' vote broke the tie on that one.
- Biggest win: NMH vs. Pavement with a 48-10 win; a 38-vote difference
- SCREW YOU GUYS for not voting for Meadowlands by the Wrens. It lost by 3 votes.
- Again, anyone can vote in round two, even if you didn't vote in round one.
- URL for the full bracket is here (http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2dguwky&s=5)
Once again, you all have ONE WEEK to vote for round two. 20:00GMT Monday, 6 April 2009 is the cutoff. That should give you plenty of time to find the music you haven't listened to and make a more educated selection.
PM me with questions; otherwise, enjoy!

Yay, round 2! I'm sad that Modest Mouse didn't make it. Pink is cool and all but c'mon, TLCW is a masterpiece. I'm also surprised Wilco was beaten by Mogwai. And, of course, I'm sad that MONO didn't make it through. Anyway, here goes:
BLUE
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Mountain Goats - All Hail West Texas
Bob Dylan - Bringing it all Back Home
Slint - Spiderland
GREEN
EitS - The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
YELLOW
Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions
Radiohead - OK Computer
John Coltrane - Blue Train
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
RED
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People (This better beat Low god damnit...although I doubt it will. I can see Low going to the end of this bracket)
Pixies - Surfer Rosa
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
The Clash - London Calling
I care less about a lot of these brackets than the first set. Not that there aren't lots of great albums on here, just that the pairings leave me a little colder. I was hoping for some upsets! Oh well, maybe round three will be really interesting again.
-
That isn't even the best Coltrane album so I was okay not voting for it.
Seriously, how did that album manage to get more nominations than, say, Olé Coltrane or First Meditations or like Giant Steps especially?
-
Cause it's like...the cool one. If you took a poll, I'd say most people would name "Blue Train" if asked them to name a Coltrane album. It's the most popular, although certainly not his best.

Nah, it won't win it all. It will pass this bracket but Abbey Road or something will take it out at the end.

I am totally nominating my own band as the champion, it has Jeff Mangum, Lou Reed, Will Sheff, Will Oldham, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits and Steve Albini. They all play kazoos and screw the man.
Any votes involving The Mountain Goats I may change, I haven't listened to them yet. But I can probably count on them to be excellent songwriters with angular riffs, Gibson SG's and a pair of Chucks.

Haha, oh man it is kind of hilarious to imagine people like that making music but instead the Mountain Goats comes out of their mouthes and amps.

Man, why all the hate on Aeroplane? I don't understand it.
Personal story: I was given a burned copy of Aeroplane maybe 5, 6 years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Thought the album was brilliant, the story was very moving and felt the singer personally giving it his all. I had no idea who NMH were, who Jeff Mangum was; I'd never heard of them before a friend gave me the copy and told me I'd like it. I did - I thought it was a fantastic piece of work. Here's the key part of the story: I had never heard of Pitchfork, I never read (and still don't) Magnet, Paste, Blender, Rolling Stone, etc. I came to my own independent conclusion that Aeroplane was one of the best albums I'd ever heard up to that point. So why all the hate?
And Explosions in the Sky better beat fucking Joy Division, man. I'm going to be terribly upset if it doesn't. (More upset than when the Wrens didn't make it to the next round.) And also, Crane Wife sucks as an album, but I love the Decemberists. Takk... and ( ) are decent albums, but Ágætis Byrjun is by far their best album. (I can't believe someone actually nominated Med Sud... It's a big overproduced "meh".) Remember, the point of this competition is to pick the best overall album, not pick discs that have a few good tracks, a few ok tracks but we love the band so omg fanboi laws require me to vote for it!!! And really, Pet Sounds? Not all that great an album. Yeah it was revolutionary, their best work, blah blah blah, but it's just ok.
Ok, I'm off my soapbox. Sorry for getting personal, as I guess I'm kinda leading this project, but it's hard to be unbiased when you all are morons! (just kidding - only some of you are morons.)

I was quite impressed we didn't just end up with A Love Supreme. I'm no conoisseur, but I'm pretty sure it's the only one most people have heard of (it's the one I've got, fer chrissakes), so clearly we have some proper fans on here.

I felt this round was a little bit easier to vote on, at least for me. The one matchup I'll definitely be watching from this round is Born to Run vs. Kind of Blue. I agree Kind of Blue is a decent album, but 1) it's not Davis' best and 2) come on, its fucking Born to Run, a classic rock cornerstone (ok i'm biased because it's one of my all time favorite albums but really folks, its good).
And how the hell didn't Tyranny of Distance and the Lonesome, Crowded West make it into this bracket? Come on people.

Have you listened to Things We Lost In The Fire?

Even fucking Khar likes Things We Lost In The Fire.

Even my mom likes Things We Lost In The Fire.

Honestly, no. I'll check it out before this round ends, and maybe it will change my vote, maybe it won't. I already know I don't like Broken Social Scene (from what I remember).
Also, as for all the "if NMH wins i'm gonna punch babies", I voted for it in this round simply because I think it's a pretty good album. Is it holy-shit-amazing? No. But it's a decent album, and definitely better than Doolittle.

Man, I'm glad I waited until some time after I'd voted to actually read through the things people are saying in this thread. I realize it's all in jest (sort of) of course, but man, I would not like to vote while being threatened that much.
i don't think any Sigur Ros album even deserved to make it to the first round.
this.
Remember, the point of this competition is to pick the best overall album, not pick discs that have a few good tracks, a few ok tracks but we love the band so omg fanboi laws require me to vote for it!!!
I feel like I kind of defy this perspective, but to be fair it's because I'd never heard of some of these bands before this contest, especially not outside of seeing their name on this forums somewhere, and even more albums I'd never heard. I listened to a good amount of the albums, but a lot of prejudice went into bands I wasn't too familiar with but had multiple albums on here, as I would listen to one, really dislike it, and then not have a very high opinion of what their other work could be (Sigur Ros, the Pixies, Mountain Goats, etc.)

Surfer Rosa (mwahafuckyoubowiehaha)
Pet Sounds (It's fucking Pet Sounds. Even if I had come to this album cold I would love it dearly)
London Calling (I don't actually like either of these options all that much, but it's the better of two blehs)
Damn you all for not voting for Lonesome Crowded West.

I am a little put off by just how many people are putting It Takes A Nation... over Paranoid. I haven't counted, but right now it's REALLY one-sided. Which worries me.
It was a hard choice. Best Rap Album v Possibly best Heavy Metal Album.
I guess I just like metal more.
Yeah, it was similar for me, but I just don't think I ever care to listen to Paranoid anymore. Like, it's great, but I've heard it out, you know. It takes a nation is still there for me.
