Title: Ebooks Everywhere!
Post by: Vidya on 05 Apr 2009, 01:56
What this is: A collection of ebooks.

How to obtain said ebooks:
1. Save image
2. Open with Winrar.
3. Extract to a folder of your choice
4. Enjoy!

Do you want to participate in said sharing?
Well here's how!

1. Create a folder in your C: drive (name it something simple)
2. Archive your ebook using winrar.
3. Put the picture you want to use and your newly created rar file into the new folder you created.
4. open command prompt
5. cd to your folder.
Ex. Say we named our folder b. you would type "cd \b" without quotes
       This will give you C:\b
(For all future purposes I will use pic.jpg for the picture and archive.rar for the archive)
6. type "copy /b [image] + [archive] [output]" without quotes
So for us it would look like copy /b pic.jpg + archive.rar output.jpg

7. Congratulations! You're done!

Note: If you typo the second file name, it will skip it without generating an error, so doublecheck

Note2: This works because the RAR is appended to the JPG beyond the image data, while Winrar only starts reading from the RAR header and ignores what precedes it.

What if the author is dead, as is the case with all of the author's whose books you just posted?

Someone still holds copyright on the books for a reason. For instance, Camus' twin daughters.

While doing a paper on it I kept it on my Ipod. I probably read half of the inferno like that.

(I had read it before, however)

Holy fucking eyestrain Batman.

But yeah, I do kind of have a policy of buying books if their authors are alive.

(I do not do this with music because I am poor. Why hello there, Hypocrisy! How are you today?)

This appears to not work for people on Linux, or maybe I am the only one.

Anyways. My offering is to remind everyone about the QC Forums gmail account for ebooks! It is pretty awesome and has a lot to choose from, just pop into Gmail and use "qcforums" as the username and "pintsize" as the password and you will have access to a giant collection of ebooks! (Somewhere there is a list of all the books in the account, I'll see if I can find it quick...)

EDIT: Here we go. (http://frogless.freehostia.com/BookList2.html) That is the list the creator of the account provided for all the books he added, so if others have contributed they won't be on it.

Usually because they turn a thread from the "hey you should check this out" thing we so desire to the "hey give me free stuff because I can't be fucked looking for it myself" thing we so detest.

Plus they end up taking over the thread.
