Title: Polaroid Penpals?
Post by: Will on 01 May 2009, 08:41
I'm not sure if this idea will work, because I don't know how many of you guys are fellow owners of Polaroid cameras, but I'm going to try.

A couple of years ago, I started a "Pen Pals" thread where we all traded addresses and wrote to each other. It was fun. Now I want to do something similar but different. This time, I want to trade Polaroid pictures with you guys. Since Polaroid film is no longer being made, this will only last for a little while.

How it will work is this: You post in this thread if you want to participate. You must own, or at least have access to a Polaroid camera. Once you post in this thread, i will message you with my address. You take a picture of anything you want, and send it to me. When I get your picture, I will return the favor with a picture of my own. Something from where I live, a close-up of something I think looks cool...anything!

MODS-if this thread should be in a different section, please move it for me. I just figured the arts&crafts folk would be most likely to have Polaroid cameras!

me me :] I just borrowed my friend's polaroid camera cause I found some film and I'm going to buy more today. I believe the polaroid company has been taken over, and will continue to make film, but fuji also sells what is apparently an acceptable substitute (the color is more vivid, I hear). it might take me a while to take something good enough to send you, though!

This sounds crazy fun and I wish I had a polaroid camera.  =(  Can't I just get something developed and send it?

Ally, if I am not mistaken the Fuji film is only going to be compatible with the picture-pack type cameras, the ones you peel apart to develop. I think the square film that everyone associates with the 'Polaroid look' is going to be gone forever :-(

Pen, the film's hells of expensive so I really want to keep it Polaroid-for-Polaroid trade. If you want, I'll PM you my address though and we can trade regular pictures!

We had a camera. :(

If you guys do a normal photo trade, I'm up for that.

I was actually quite sad when they said they wouldn't be making the film anymore. I mean, it's hard to find a lot of darkroom supplies now and everyone is switching over to digital. It's kind of sad that all the awesome forms of photography will one day be obsolete.

For those interested in Polaroids:

Basically, they bought the factories and are trying to bring it back. I hope they do it.

Yeah fuck that digital Polaroid shit.

I own a Polaroid camera but am too broke to buy film for it. It lies on a shelf next to the Pentacon 35mm that I need to get repaired.

They're just not a child anymore. I know it's difficult but it's time to let go.

don't get a polaroid camera; get the new fuji instax camera. film is comparatively cheap (slash still in production)
