I remember listening to Infected Mushroom - Viscious Delicious once whilst baked.
It was ridiculous, there's climax that seems to go on forever, and you feel like it'll never get there. But it does.
My friend and I once connected both our Ipods to a set of speakers and played multiple songs together. It was genius at the time, but we tried it later, and it was kind of rubbish.

I dunno, reggae has never really struck me as smoking music, despite all of the obvious parallels. It feels too empty most of the time, like the reverb is really weak or something.

man, the new Black Moth Super Rainbow record is pretty fucking awesome. the first couple of tracks are kind of meh but "Iron Lemonade" and everything after it is brilliant. i just preordered the limited edition hairy case version from their website. the cd case is actually hairy! wow! :mrgreen:

Yeah, but dubstep and reggae are both something of a niche, you gotta admit. I still cannot get into dubstep no matter how hard I try (which isn't very hard, but I fail to see what's so attractive about it. It's got really low bass and a musique concrete thing going on? I couldn't even get through a Bassnectar record...)

You're up in your head, trying to listen to gut music. Heavy-bass electronica like Bassnectar and dubstep is about feeling the music hit you in the abdomen rather than the eardrums. Personally I'm such a bass junkie that I listen to the stuff in my free time too, but it's really about letting a massive bank of subwoofers push low frequencies through your body until you need to dance just to keep the vibration from making you uncomfortable.
For some reason this goes really really well with smoking weed, in my experience.

Oh wait I lied there is a shit ton of events in abandoned warehouse spaces in Brooklyn and the like that I get invited to on Facebook on a regular basis through various circles that I move in (including CoSM and people associated with Newmindspace). I was thinking of massive, outdoor acid house-era raves with live soundsystems.

i find when i'm stoned, really anything sounds fucking spectacular. i spun saetia once and it was incredible. however i think the best song i've listened to stoned is 1978 by Do Make Say Think. Oh dear god, the jazzy bass in that song. holy shit.

That had a lot more of a trip-hop vibe to it, so it's easier to listen to. But heavy bass alone won't make me dance, I can't listen to music that's all low/mid/high frequency, I need variation. That song works, because there's a mid-range melody to go along with it, but a lot of the dubstep out there seems to be just bass and not much else.
As far as outdoor stuff goes, Gene, you'd probably have to look for upcoming festivals and whatnot. In Baltimore every June there's Starscape, which usually features The Disco Biscuits, a rave tent, a dubstep stage, and FUCKTONS of drugs. If my shithole has at least one big shindig every summer, your shithole probably has at least 10.

Actually the Baltimore rave scene is one of the biggest on the East Coast if I'm not mistaken. I run into Baltimore kids ALL THE TIME up here in Philly. They have mixed things to say about it ... the impression I get is that the scene is less about the spirituality and community aspects of raves and more about excessive drug abuse. CosM in NYC is on basically the opposite pole of the spectrum ... VERY heavily centered on spirituality and community. Philly's scene has elements of both, but it's not quite as big or as organized as either.

The reason for the drugs down here, as I see it, is that raves are the only place you can get a lot of stuff (at least if you're coming in from the suburbs). Particularly hallucinogens and dissociatives. I went to Starscape once, picked up some acid because I hadn't been able to find any for a couple months, and a few good E pills. Only smoked while I was there, I came to pick up drugs and watch the show rather than ingest. It was also a birthday present for a friend of mine, who candyflipped like all hell. He had a hit of each, and then some dude gave him a tenstrip that he ate half of.

I am fairly certain it would be a sign that life is awesome if I was sitting around stoned, talking bullshit about some concept that in reality has no practical concept to "Winter Wonder Land."

I don't smoke weed. Don't care if anyone else does, but it's not my thing.
Hell, I don't drink anymore either. I almost feel as though I should insert the obligatory joke about I don't drink any less..., but seriously... I'm basically an unintentional straight edge.
I am, however, a chronic pain sufferer. Years of abusing my body physically started catching up with me in my mid-twenties, and it's only getting worse with age. Now I basically get to spend every day for the rest of my life in pain. This isn't a pity party on my part, just an explanation of what's coming.
The vast majority of days I either just get on with life or maybe take some over the counter pain medicine to take the edge off the ouch. Some days however, I have really bad days, and for that, the doctor makes sure that I always have a bottle of Vicodin. The problem with taking that, however, is that I absolutely cannot sleep when I've taken it. So I will usually just put my iPod on and lay there listening to music for hours.
I get really into the music when I'm high on the meds and spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing on the music, so I like things that are fairly complex. Especially if they have a lot of less-than-common instruments in it. To that end, Billy Joel can be really good when I'm buzzing. Mandolins, horns, and pianos.
I also like really old ska. Not the crap they called ska in the nineties, (with the exception of Mephiskapheles! Love those guys) but everything from Desmond Dekker to The Selecter. I love brass.

Eddie Hazel. Anything by Eddie Hazel, either in funkadellic or his solo stuff. People should have little shrines in their house dedicated to that guy.
I also have a playlist that consists of Opeth's mellow stuff and some selections from Porcupine Tree that has been played a few times while laying awake all night. Of course, I do a fair bit of jazz listening too. Mostly stuff with good horns sections. And fuck smooth jazz. If I wanted to listen to that, I'd just ride an elevator. I know a lot of Miles Davis gets shared around here, but I don't recall seeing any Chet Baker. Check him out. And for saxaphone, try Pharoh Sanders.
Alright, I hope that gives y'all a few ideas. I imagine the overall mood of being 'into' the music is about the same, whether you're smoking herb or taking meds. :)

I've recently fallen hard for Basshunter. A friend of a friend turned me on to that and it fucking rocks!
However it does require a strobe light for the room, which may or may not freak some out.
and btw if you suffer from such chronic pain, maybe you should consider the only legal option on this thread, medical cannabis or THC pills. all would be prescribed from a physician and legal. maybe not in your state but check.

I listened to "Glosoli" by Sigur Ros when I was the most stoned I'd ever been and I saw colors pulsating to the music. It was awesome.

German TV has an extra Show for that. Every night right after midnight. Called "Space Night Earthviews". Showing Pictures from Earth moving under some Satellites view or computer animated pictures and they play anything from Led Zep up to that mellow kind of "Elevator Music Style Techno" or Freejazz with Xylophones (Bands are J.F.C, Aural Float, Nils Wülker, The Sushi Club et al). The show is the "filler" for 3-4 channels until 6 AM in the morning.

i dont like korn much sober, but stoned it makes me twenty four kinds of happy.
bassnectar stoned is also pretty much awesome.

red hot chili peppers also works for the occasion.
(i know these are bands, rather than songs, but i mostly just put an artist on shuffle on my itunes while i'm high. anything else i am too stoned to put the effort into.)
