Why was there no thread for this?
Original Announcement (http://kotaku.com/5011404/ubisoft-officially-announces-beyond-good--evil-2)
New game footage(maybe?) (http://kotaku.com/5246177/is-this-new-beyond-good--evil-2-footage)
What little I've seen so far looks excellent. Keep it up Ubisoft!
-
Holy crap. That looks great. Do want.
Too bad it'll probably be PS3 exclusive...
-
nope (http://kotaku.com/391065/beyond-good--evil-2-is-for-ps3-360)
-
I was starting to wonder why we weren't getting any info on this. Sure the first game had some fairly lackluster sales, but it was freaking awesome.
-
I have one question: Are there still all of the awesome alien races?
-
nope (http://kotaku.com/391065/beyond-good--evil-2-is-for-ps3-360)
I just peed a little.

There is no precedent for it being PS3 exclusive anyway. The first game was on all three platforms of last generation, and Ubisoft isn't in the habit of doing platform exclusives anyway. And even if they were, would either of the platform makers dish out exclusivity money for the sequel to one of the most high-profile commercial flops of the last decade?
-
I never played the original. Should I have done this?
-
Yes, but ignore the last level.

There is no way that top video isn't for Beyond Good and Evil 2. The way Jade looks in the teaser trailer is exactly the same as the way this character in the mystery footage is dressed. Also, the ship she gets into is suspiciously similar to a Mammago vehicle. This just looks like Beyond Good and Evil, but more mature. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Maybe this is pre-rendered. Maybe the real game isn't so action intensive. If it is I hope they sacrifice nothing to make it so. The sad reality is that sacrifices will probably have to be made.
-
Supposedly the original trailer was in-engine, so if that's true and not Killzone-type BS then I would guess this most recent footage is either actual gameplay or more in-engine cutscene work. I don't think it's pre-rendered, either way.
-
Or a planned route designed to show off the game's mechanics...
-
This is something that could be true. We shall have to wait and see.

Sadly, no Beyond Good and Evil 2 at E3 (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/05/14/beyond-good-and-evil-2-likely-skipping-e3/)
-
Judging by the camera, I'd say it's definitely not gameplay, I seriously doubt anyone could play with a camera like that - also, there isn't a single hitch between each of the things I assume would have been a player-initiated action, like jumping.
i think the big clue is maybe the static final shot
-
Wikipedia had an absolutely ANCIENT article on this game with nothing but a few lines of text and a single screenshot of what appeared to be a cutscene.
I just peed a little.
And I thought it was just me! =O
-
If that video is gameplay footage, then fuck me sideways. Impossible. Unless games suddenly started playing themselves.
I haven't played the first game, although I vaguely remember seeing it somewhere. This does look spectacular, and very promising.
-
:-o
That is all.
-
Even if it's a "this is what you can (sort of) do" typ thing, still impressive. I would love a pure free-running system with BG&E2, with maybe more emphasis on "Expose the conspiracy" than "you are the head aliens power source" (Spoilered for those who have not played.

*nerdgasm*
I absolutely loved the first Beyond Good & Evil beyond all reason.
I hope that as a side effect of "Beyond Good & Evil 2" being advertised, people discover the first game and it becomes a retroactive hit.
-
OH SHIT, I am really excited for this. Although if that's gameplay footage, it resembles Mirror's Edge... and I am absolutely terrible at Mirror's Edge. My fingers are crossed for this one, hope it's even better than the original.

On the other hand, some of the repeated motions are strongly indicative of gameplay footage. Like, she kept doing this little side-step movement that would have been weird for someone to animate if it were a cinematic, but perfectly in line with if there were a movement control for side-stepping. I'm going with well-rehearsed and planned out demo of gameplay.
If this game came out I might need to buy a 360 just for it. Also, a widescreen monitor (the latter I was probably going to buy anyway.)

Hate to burst your bubble but uh, I am already become disappointment (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93395-Dont-Get-Your-Hopes-Up-For-Beyond-Good-Evil-2-Yet)

I had heard that Ancel was so frustrated with Ubisoft's handling of BG&E2 that he had actually left the company, it's good news to hear that was just another wild rumor. Still with so many canceled-not canceled rumors I'm waiting until we see some actual footage of the game before I get my hopes up.
