My dream hipster cutie does not necessarily play in a band. He does, however, play the guitar as a hobby and writes me cute twee songs about holding hands in the park and eating ice cream under the sunshine. He has hair that is soft and likes when I run my fingers through it. He looks like Nick Thorburn.
My imaginary indie crush has excellent taste. He doesn't only listen to indie; he branches out to many genres because he is passionate about all music. However, he is okay with admitting that sometimes he likes to jam to Avril Lavigne or Blink-182 because sometimes music is just for fun.
My made-up boy has many diverse hobbies and interests. Although he treats his girlfriend (me!) with tenderness and respect, he does not revolve his life around romantic relationships. He has many friends and many interesting stories of past adventures. He is intelligent, logical, and thinks for himself. He has a great sense of humor and we always make each other laugh!
Now... if only he would come true :(

I want an indie boy who likes all kinds of music and is generally excited about it instead of pretentious. I don't think he would be particularly indie necessarily, assuming I actually know what that is, but I would probably like a dude like every guy I've ever liked rolled into one, except without the bad parts. He wouldn't be overly sensitive and he wouldn't read too much into the things I said when they come out wrong. My dream indie boy would first and foremost need to be a total intellectual. He would want to discuss the issues of the day, the arts, or just be able to maintain an engaging conversation regardless of subject matter. Personally I prefer people who don't really fall into any particular groups. Like a big box marked "other", mainly because of what the big "other" box has the potential to hold, it could be anything, a rubber duckie, a set of false teeth, anything.
But I am still concerned as to what "indie" means, from my understanding it means someone who is into indepedent music (doy) but the fashion sense and personality always seems so hard to pin down. But the only really independent kids I have encountered have been somewhat arrogant, especially in reagards to my music choices, one fellow even said to me that the best music is one that only the listener has heard of which to me strikes me as a combination of stupidity and self-centered imbecility that seems to be verging on the solipsistic.
In short, is the indie boy that people "want" just a boy with indie trappings or people who are firmly commited to indie like the hypothetical Indie monk.

I thought that it was to, the man was a dingbat though so I pretty much ignored any contribution he could have made. Also he wore a stupid hat and claimed it was better than mine, and he was an arsehole who actually believed what he was saying.
I tried to argue that he should at least try to like some music that isn't just from the local area, but then he compounded it by saying that anything that wasn't on an especially "independent" label had sold out, he didn't even like Weird al for petes sake, and when you are talking to that sort of music facist its better to just nod and walk away.
Anyway, sorry to sidetrack, have fun with the indie kids.

My dream indie boy would be emotionally distant, declare that he doesn't really listen to Indie anymore and is way more into Minimal Techno and Horror-core, would wear the same pair of sneakers and jeans every day without fail with a different ridiculous and obtuse t-shirt. He would drink way too much and stay out way too late and cuss more than necessary and always forget to get a haircut so he'd look ruffled but not the effortless kind of cool wind-swept ruffled, the kind where you look like you stuck your head out of a car on the highway. He would have no redeeming features whatsover apart from the fact that interesting things seem to happen when I was around him.

Long ago - but the point was made by H G Wells in The Time Machine (the only film my father ever took me to see), and any number of other science-fiction writers (I recall one short story in which a time tourist trod on a butterfly and returned to a different world, but can't remember who wrote it).

My friend and I have made up boyfriends... mine fits in well to this thread, I think.
Benji Jackson is 16 or so (I'm 15, not pedophilia). He has shortish black hair and nice muttonchops that are fuzzy and fun to play with and end in a reasonable place. We go to awesome concerts together and the barista in the coffee shop around the corner from his house knows our names and our order. We talk about Gd, love, human nature, and other fun deep things... and then dumb stuff a minute later. We have a secret handshake and it involves modern dance. He's taller than me but not like a foot taller and wears nondescript clothes... just like tees and jeans. We make obscure references from the internet and movies and have fun. He can't dance any more than I can, but we do our best and make asses of ourselves together. He knows how to help me when I'm slipping into a pool of misery and he puts up with the mess that is my mind. He gives the best hugs ever and we can just sit in the park and watch people and be at peace.
I don't really care about his music, but he has to put up with mine and not insult it and I should be okay with his too. It would be nice if he had money, enough to pay for my coffee or T fare sometimes at least.
It's not awkward when I go to kiss him - he kisses me back.
