On one hand, I want a good proper Sherlock Holmes movie at some point.
On the other hand, I'm not gonna argue with "Tony Stark in Time".
-
Robert Downey Jr. is nothing compared to Basil.
-
On the other hand, I'm not gonna argue with "Tony Stark in Time".
Robert Downey Jr. is now the official go-to actor for ass-kicking addict super-geniuses.
-
I have yet to be dissappointed by a movie he is in.
-
Encino Man?
-
U.S. Marshals? Gothika?
He's made a loooooot of shit.
-
I am sure this is gonna be an awesome movie, but I am also sure it's not even gonna come close to my image of Sherlock Holmes and I'm gonna be disappointed.^^
-
This ain't a Sherlock Holmes movie.
That being said, I really wanna see it.
-
This is not what I would ever expect from a Sherlock Holmes movie, but you know what, it looks hilarious and I will most likely see it.
-
Robert Downey Jr. is now the official go-to actor for ass-kicking mysoginistic coke-fiend alcoholic super-geniuses.
Fixed that for you!
-
I will see this.
-
If it's anything like his previous movies, I'll be fucking impressed.
-
They made a PC adventure game out of that, actually. (http://pc-games.suite101.com/article.cfm/sherlock_holmes_the_awakened)

Man, I haven't seen Jude Law in a while.

Encino Man?
U.S. Marshals? Gothika?
He's made a loooooot of shit.
I have yet to see these movies. I will not tarnish the mental image I have of him by going to see them.

Where does this take place in established canon? Or have they disregarded canon with some bullshit time travel mechanic so they can have an "alternate timeline".
THIS ANGERS ME FOR UNREASONABLE REASONS. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

This seems to be happening to you frequently lately!

If this is a joke it's a very, very good one.

People, this is a Guy Ritchie film.
You're getting excited about a Guy Ritchie film.
There is a 99% chance that it will be complete shit.
-
Actually, I think there's about a 40% chance it'll be shit and 60% it'll be really fun and amusing.
-
Be realistic, people; 75% rubbish and 25% of it being totally fucking awesome.
-
Guy Ritchie has directed 8 films and one of them was good (Lock Stock) so there's a 12.5% chance of this being any good.
-
Also, Snatch.
Edit: I meant to flip the two.

I too looked at IMDb and decided 3 of them don't count because The Hard Case is a short film, The Hire was a series of short films, and Suspect was a TV movie.
Leaving Lock, Stock... (good), Snatch (good), Swept Away (awful), Revolver (meh), & RocknRolla(decent).
Thus, 60% chance of fun.

I'm getting excited over the concept of a badass Holmes.

Been waiting for Sherlock Holmes to crack the coke racket rampant in the East End for a while
-
Don't jump in the Thames Robert, there's poo in it!

Sherlock Holmes is basically Wolverine in this trailer.
-
That makes me sad.
-
Sherlock Holmes is basically Captain Jack Sparrow in this trailer.

See, I am slightly excited for this movie only because it looks silly. Like, it's obviously nowhere NEAR what a Sherlock story is, but it's got Downey being snarky and what's not to love about that?

I thought that Revolver had some really great themes to it, namely egocentrism. RockNRolla was pretty entertaining and witty, but it only came out after the point where it isn't new or exciting from him anymore. Still bought the dvd. This is going to be exactly what it looks like from him again, another action comedy from Guy Ritchie. I'm just glad I enjoy those.

Why hello there Rachel McAdams how are you today
-
Not super excited.
They should have made this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadows_Over_Baker_Street) a movie instead.
Heck yeah, that’d be awesome.
RockNRolla was pretty entertaining and witty, but it only came out after the point where it isn't new or exciting from him anymore.
I felt like RockNRolla was self-cannibalism of Lock, Stock… and Snatch. Terrifying criminal overlord is tries to obtain MacGuffin (guns/diamond/painting) that's somehow fallen into the hands of small-time crooks who owe a debt to said overlord. Add a half-dozen quirked-out extra players and a labyrinthine plot that results in criminal overlord being killed by his own circumstantially botched plans, leaving the protagonist small-time crooks in the clear. Having seen Ritchie's earlier films, I pretty much knew how RockNRolla would end during its opening five minutes.
Obviously he can't do that here, but I'm kinda worried because every time he's tried a different plot the results haven't been pretty.

My thoughts exactly!
As far as Guy Ritchie goes in general, he's a pretty weak director. Sure Snatch and Lock Stock were clever and stylish. I think those movies are a lot of fun and own them both and enjoy them, especially the latter. That being said, they're gimicky and full of one dimensional characters (even though some are pretty enjoyable). Swept Away...well lets not even mention that travesty (not that Wertmuller's is all that good either). I didn't see Revolver but I did see RocknRolla and was really disappointed. It was a tired and uninteresting rehash of his earlier gangster flicks largely devoid of the charm and occasional interesting character and even failing at the crazy complicated 'oh shit all these connected yet separate-for-most-of-the-movie groups of quirky characters are all converging at the end' thing. In other words, not counting the one I haven't seen, Ritchie has made two decent/fun if not all that great movies and one god awful one and one simply weak and boring one. An OK record but not a great one.
The trailer for this Holmes movie does not inspire confidence. Downey Jr. seems to be channeling Johnny Depp here but not in a good way. I can't quite make out what this movie will be like except that it will be fairly "action packed" and have slow motion fist fights recycled from Snatch and really lame sexual humor (see the final moment of the trailer) which will surely be eye-rollingly bad if that clip is any indication. Downey Jr. is a good actor but Ritchie is not so great at directing actors necessarily so...well needless to say I don't have high hopes. Yes, I'll probably see this movie but I'll be going into it with low expectations. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, I totally agree with this sentiment.

I'm not really a fan of snark. Giving it a miss.
