So I just watched the season of "true blood"
I liked it overall but the 1st two episodes were like most of the vampire novels I read. Sweet mortal girl meets an ethical vampire and falls in love.
I wonder if there are any vampire novels that are just about vampires? The most I can think of is Sunshine and a couple of the Anne Rice books (and Dracula I assume though I never read the whole thing).
Any suggestions?

The only good vampire novel I have read is Dracula - the others just don't measure up.

I thought The Historian was rather poor - it started off slow and then about halfway or two thirds of the way through it felt like the author realised it was time to get to the climax and just jumped straight there. I wouldn't recommend it.
