Windows AnthroPCs should never believe Linux AnthroPCs, and vice-versa. Both types are mean, sneaky, underhanded little fellows.
That said, a sentience matrix sounds interesting, and worth a shot.
-
I'm going to start calling our little perverted roibot friend Pinrsize from now on Wink
Also, I was tweet-replying @dresdencodak when I clicked on the QC comic link. Get out of my head, Jeph!
-
"rout"?
-
Isn't that what David Carradine was trying to do?
-
Isn't that what David Carradine was trying to do?
I call it pulling a Stephen Milligan, after the MP who famously accidentally killed himself by dressing up as a chick, vibrator in his ass, Newcastle United shirt, orange in his mouth, noose around the neck.
Police removed the Newcastle jersey to save his family the embarrassment.
Stuff about the Newcastle shirt or vibrator may not be true. Offer void in Nebraska.
-
lol... I totally have a Newcastle shirt.
-
lol... I totally have a Newcastle shirt.
You poor soul.
-
I didn't think of PT-410X as having any kind of sense of humor, even a mean one.
-
what do you expect from linux? if you want something done nicely and well ask a mac
-
there's nothing i hate more than missing a reference :-(
So... Who's 3ve?
-
The one that's not KimikoRoss.
-
Wait...sublimation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sublimation_(chemistry))? Huh?
...Ok, so there's this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sublimation_(psychology)), too, but that doesn't make much sense either.
-

I assume it's the chemistry one. Pintsize would definitely need thiotimoline for that, though.
-
3ve = Apple Geeks reference http://www.applegeeks.com/
KimikoRoss = Dredsen Codak reference http://dresdencodak.com/
To sublimate is merely to pass from solid phase to gaseous phase without observing the chemical custom of attaining a liquid phase. At least, that's the usual meaning I take for it. Basicly, any transcendence from one form (mere anthroPC) to another (godPC) would satisfy the meaning.
And for those less geeky than ysth and I, thiotimoline = fictional Asimovian chemical compound with time travel properties. Coat an object in TTL, which dissolves in water, and then prepare to dunk the TTL coated object in water, but then don't, and the the TTL will undergo a temporal shift to travel forward into a time where you would dunk it in water, taking the object with it.
It put the waste management industry out of business.

Well, it's nice to know that Pintsize can still be gullible sometimes.
I wonder what terrible and protracted revenge he will have in mind now

Yeah, but being an ultra-literalist, it sounds to me like Pintsize wants to become God by vaporizing himself.
-
Putting his power supply into a feedback loop might have accomplished just that if it had worked.
-
I supposed that Pintsize meant some kind of psychological sublimation.
-
what do you expect from linux? if you want something done nicely and well ask a mac
Sorry! can't stand it any more!
Your new generation macs are UNIX based operating systems (as is linux), using intel chips. Mac IS a PC, just a very fancy one. In reality one can achieve the same result in ease of use and visual aesthetics, buying a lightweight netbook and installing a user friendly linux distribution, i.e. Ubuntu. Same result, but a lot, a LOT cheaper.
Now that said.
(Once again, i apologize)
Considering linux being built from the start with multi-user functionality in mind, does that make linux based anthro-pc's a bit... schicophrenic?
-
There's still quite a difference between BSD Unix (as used in Darwin, the kernel of the Mac) and Linux. I use BSD (specifically OpenBSD) for firewalls, because it is the best.
-
Well... yeah, if you go into specifics.
I just wanted to pop the illusions of grandeur, and to explain that they are not from another planet, but more of a next of kin, actually. That's all.

-
Yeah, but being an ultralisk, it sounds to me like Pintsize wants to become God by vaporizing himself.
This is how I read it.
-
Sounds like the robot version of "Seemed like a good idea at the time."
-
Mac IS a PC, just a very fancy one.
True, if you take PC in its most literal meaning of "Personal Computer". In the media and popular culture, however, PC usually is used to refer to a computer which runs Windows. So by that definition, an Apple computer is not a PC unless you make it run Windows, which until a few years ago wasn't possible without a large amount of hacking.
And even though OSX is based on Unix, saying that its comparable to any flavor of Linux isn't really fair, as the user friendliness (especially to non-techy people) and stability of OSX is unmatched by Linux or any other operating system I've tried (although Windows 7 comes close).
-
*bursts in the door*
NERRRRD!!!!
-
The Personal Computer (in full, the IBM Personal Computer) predated the first version of Windows by several years, and was even offered with a version of Unix for a while.
-
*bursts in the door*
NERRRRD!!!!
Yes, and they run the world now
MUWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
-
And then you have the weird people that make their IBM-compatible PCs into Macs.
(There, does "IBM-compatible PC" work for all of you?)
-
Wait, while Kimiko does indeed have a high percentage of cyborg parts now, she's still technically human. What's she doing in a robot chat room?
-
Maybe the robots invited her out of respect. Or she's just crashing the party.
-
I wonder if they talk to Motoko Kusanagi as well

I envision a day where "Windows games" is no longer a usable term, but instead is regulated to the "Computer Game" instead. It would have to involve the courts forcing Microsoft to share its Direct X and prietary programming with other OS's so that any "Computer Game" can run on any "Computer." This would be unlike the situation now, where most games are on an inferior OS simply because it is the one with the most users.
-
And I envision a day where the stereotypical Linux users stop pushing their OS on everybody who uses Windows/OSX/BSD/BeOS and bashing Windows/OSX/BSD/BeOS through snide remarks like "inferior os" at every opportunity.
Linux works for you? That's fine, go ahead and use it. Windows works for us. Live and let live. Stop trying to 'convert' everyone who doesn't run the OS of your choosing; all that does is drive people away.

Is Hanners completely hiding behind Marten in panels 1 and 4 just to pop out in panel 3? The way it's drawn that makes more sense than her coming from off panel, heh.
-
Ugh, I have some sort of allergic reaction to Angus. He just drags down strips for me.
-
Is Hanners completely hiding behind Marten in panels 1 and 4 just to pop out in panel 3? The way it's drawn that makes more sense than her coming from off panel, heh.
Yeah, it looks like it. I think it adds to the humour.
Was I the only one to wonder "Where the heck are they?" before realising it's the coffee shop from an inverted perspective?
-
Ugh, doesn't Angus have any friends of his own? of course not, if this is how he tries to make them.
-
Woah, Angus-hate?
I like him, and it's good to see more of him, other than his attempts to break down Faye's resistance.
-
Yes, because offering to buy a drink for someone who does you a favour is just wrong, and is an obvious sign that he has no friends.
On a different note what sort of points do we get for brownies with fudge and walnuts?
-
How many points does marijuana earn?
-
Angus gets my support for the brownie points comeback alone.
-
What a bitch Faye can be. At the moment she doesn't even deserve Angus.
-
I was gonna comment on how we get to see the other side of the coffee shop for once...
...guys. Just a comic. Relax.
-
Would seeing CoD from the reverse 'camera' angle qualify as breaking the fourth wall?
-
No...?
The question mark is there because I'm not sure if you were trying for a joke or something.
-
Wait, wait wait. Angus lives in Faye and Marten's building and they never noticed? And he never mentioned it?
That's....very improbable.
-
I freely admit that brownies do earn brownie points with me. Especially pot brownies.
Additionally, I agree with Tai via twitter about grilled cheese and pussy.
-
Would seeing CoD from the reverse 'camera' angle qualify as breaking the fourth wall?
No - it breaks what could be seen a standard composition rule (any indoor setting always being filmed from the same basic set of angles), but that is at most tangentially related to fourth wall concerns (i.e. you don't point the camera at the studio audience)
-
Marijuana earns the second most points right behind vicodin.
-
So, about the COMIC...
Anyone else notice that either Angus is drawn today with either a seriously low potbelly, or is thrusting his groin toward Faye in every panel? It kinda creeped me out.
-
Anyone else notice that either Angus is drawn today with either a seriously low potbelly, or is thrusting his groin toward Faye in every panel? It kinda creeped me out.
I think he's leaning back on a stool, and then the counter. You can see his hand in panel 3.
I like Angus. He's decently entertaining, and this strip needs more guys. Plus, he's able to shrug off Faye's accusations of "Him moving onto her," pretty well.
Face it, people. He's got a social life, but he just ends up running into the regular QC cast often.
-
Yay the other side of CoD! (unless I'm completely wrong)
-
Wait, wait wait. Angus lives in Faye and Marten's building and they never noticed? And he never mentioned it?
That's....very improbable.
No, he lives in the same building as Marigold, who lives "down the block" (according to Pintsize) from Marten, Faye and Hannelore. Not running into them anywhere other than the CoD makes sense.
-
*bursts in the door*
NERRRRD!!!!
Yes, and they run the world now
MUWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
It's not a criticism. I'm acknowledging he and I as kinfolks.
-
this strip needs more guys.
Bring back Wil! I loved that guy
-
Heh heh
Punching Demerits...
I like that.
-
I don't.
They hurt.
*rubs shoulder ruefully*
-
Angus's posture ARGHBLARHLARAR
-
My unabashed dictionary defines "Brownie Points" as "Boobs on a girl scout."
:-o
-
My unabashed dictionary defines "Brownie Points" as "Boobs on a girl scout."
:-o
Where did you get that dictionary?
-
It's kind of cute the way Hannelore pops out from behind Marten's back and then pops back behind again.
We will have to call that region of spacetime "Hannerspace".
(Sorry. Terrible pun, I know.)
-
My unabashed dictionary defines "Brownie Points" as "Boobs on a girl scout."
:-o
Where did you get that dictionary?
It's published periodically. Check the back top rack at the local convenience store.
Look for the bunny....
-
I just loved the IRC reference in Monday's comic - just because most of my younger friends have never heard of IRC. This just breaks my brain.
Damn young'uns...
-
Hardcore spoiler for tonight's comic:
Faye and Marten are totally banging. (http://www.questionablecontent.net/random/crotchgrab.gif)
Slashed instead of spoiler'd because I "Don't have permission to post Spoilers." Weaksauce.
-
I used to work with a young fella, and we were talking about how, when I was young, we used to go down to the PUC building behind my house and jump off the roof. It wasn't terribly high, and we didn't usually hurt ourselves.
He said, "Why would you do that?"
I said, "It was something to do."
He said, "Why didn't you just go play a video game or something?"
I said, "THEY HADN'T BEEN INVENTED YET."
I became OLD in that moment.
-
But Chocolate Chips earn bonus points.
Geez Faye, take a chill pill whydonchya??!
Hey! Is that pic on the wall a photo of the view of Earth from Hanners dad's Spacestation? :D
-
Comic up!
Ah, Marten. Analyzing as always. Good plan, though.
I'm quite curious about this Colbert Meeting that Angus had. And jealous.
-
Does that mean Pintsize will handle security. Or will he need his Laser reinstalled for that?
-
I fucking "Awed" hard at Marten and him looking out for Faye. So cute.
-
Don't look now, Faye, but you may end up actually caring for another Human Being, who also cares about you.
-
It's nice to see a Faye-Marten comic again. Like old times. And good to see that Faye's concerns about them growing apart were unfounded. I mean, we knew they were, but it's nice to see things reinforced.
-
Good to see that Marten has a plan - not a great plan - but at least its a plan.
-
What do you mean "not a great plan"? That's an awesome plan!
Those are real friends, man. You need people in your life who are willing to tranque you for your own good.
My two best friends once took a guy aside, showed him a gun, then threatened to shoot him and make sure no one would ever find the body if he messed with me. Considering one had actually winged her husband, and how messed up was it that they were still together after that, he knew they meant it. Unfortunately, though we've been together for 12 years, he's never forgiven them for that.
-
Simple - nets aren't that great if they aren't weighted and Marten has problems holding up both Pintsize and Hanners!
just keep it simple
Marten - uses the tranq pistol to immobilize Faye
Dora - drives the get away car
Hanners - Uses her mother to make sure "nobody saw anything"
Pintsize - posts the video on Youtube
Simple, and with the exception of Marten, plays to peoples' strengths.
-
You need people in your life who are willing to tranque you for your own good.
You are my new hero.
-
I fucking "Awed" hard at Marten and him looking out for Faye. So cute.
see, i must be a curmudgeon because i kinda said "blech". i don't know why, i just did. it seemed too....sappy or something, i dunno.

I bawwed. :)
Also, did anyone else notice that Marten and Dora looked almost exactly the same in panel one? I never noticed it much before, but they totally look like brother and sister which is why Angus should leave, Dora should date Tai, and Marten and Faye should get together.
-
There was a comic where that was the joke.
Can't find it to save my life, though.
-
This one?
Lovebirds (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=618)
-
Actually, no.
That one sort of works, I guess.

NEWS FLASH: Nearly everyone in this comic looks alike. Because it's all just the author talking to himself. Just like reality.
-
Oo. I like that one-liner. :-D
-
The comic hasn't made laugh for a few days now.

Go get laid than.

???

Heh, Sven is such a pathetic whiner baby. "Boohoooo I don't know how to deal with emotions that aren't' about my boner. Wahhhhh. I play WoW now."
Oh wait, that's every guy I've ever gamed with... Huh.
-
Wicked awesome axe, Jeph!

Thank you.
I spent about an hour trawling through the archives, after spending at least a half hour using the QC Search (http://www.ohnorobot.com/index.pl?comic=32).
/no life
-
His assistant has to be the most annoying characters ever came across.
anybody ever told her about how people "break" in tho the music biz?
-
I personally love Sven and HATE Angus. So whatever, Sven is immature and thinks with his dick, but at least he's up front about it. Angus is just creepy and annoying, as well as somewhat pretentious.
-
In terms of Marten and Dora looking alike, there's also this one:
http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=436
And can anyone find the quest comic where everyone gets turned into women?
-
This one:
All Girls (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=955)
-

He WOULD be creepy, if he were a real-life person (and probably banned from the CoD, and registered, if this were his normal pattern of bevaviour). fortunately for him, he lives in a world where, among other things, having serious mental issues does little more than make you cute. AND LITTLE ROBOTS OMG SQUEE
-
Just imagine what you could do with talent, and a little integrity?
Integrity? In a music industry where Hannah Montana is at the top of the charts?
Entertainment has always exploited reasonably talented youngsters. But at least she's not pretending to have written the drek she sings.
-
It saddens me that I'm unemployed and apparently unemployable despite two degrees and years of experience in various industries, and yet the reality is that there ARE people who are getting paid gobs of cash for basically nothing. I understand her dismay PERFECTLY.
-
Well, at least Sven realises it's crap - But money making crap nonetheless. Has to have some advantage. :D

Jonas brothers are funny for only one reason: they say they support abstinence. OF COURSE YOU SUPPORT ABSTINENCE IF YOUR FANGIRLS ARE EITHER 12 YEAR OLD GIRLS, 50 YEAR OLD WOMEN, OR THAT WEIRD GIRL IN MY CLASS WHO DOESN'T SHOWER OFTEN!

I acutally know a senior girl who is obsessed with the Jonas Brothers. When it was Nick's birthday she baked a cake and threw a party at her house. :|

PEDOS! :-o Lady Gaga wants to have a foursome with them.

Seriously, NOTHING good can come of Angus's presence in this comic, ESPECIALLY if Faye ends up in a 'ship with him, since that would only be the gutter-end result of the worst possible patriarchial memetoforms to ever ooze their way into the human conciousness. The smarmy, smug-ass, persistent man does NOT end up with the girl unless she has serious problems with her self-esteem, and we know for a fact that she has serious psychological problems. Jeph, for the sake of all that is decent and ethically indisposable, PUT ANGUS ON A BUS. He needs to leave the QC-verse and our collective conciousness for good.
-
patriarchial memetoforms
You kiss your mother with that mouth?
-
Angus, just...urgh, he's just not likeable. First impressions count, and this is the guy who kept coming back asking for the sarcasm equivalent of "Whip me, beat me". It's like he turned Faye into his Madam in a B&D scene.
And this apparent peer pressure from Faye's social group of vetting this guy who Faye has already rejected, which has the effect of pushing her toward him by including him in her social group.
Uck. Slimy.
-
Angus, just...urgh, he's just not likeable.
Uck. Slimy.
Replace (or at least add / and then) Sven with Angus and I agree completely.
Not a big fan of either.
Still, I have to wonder if I'm supposed to feel sorry for Sven or not right now.
He just made enough money to buy a house off of horrific, shitty music that probably didn't take any effort.
-

I just got flashbacks to General Hospital fan boards...
Needless to say, I'm glad the reason I actually watched the show is no longer on...
Yes, I am heterosexual, thank you...
-
"Awkward Zone: Defeated" has the makings of a print.
-
I know girls my age (21) that are obsessed with the Jonas Brothers.
I'm willing to bet they're either gay or virgin or both.
-
Eh, Angus is a bit annoying but not really awful. I feel Faye's behavior isn't super meritorious either, and at least he puts up with her.
That said, I still love Sven and want more of him.
-
Dear sweet lord, I haven't laughed like I did while reading today's comic in ages (well, I laughed like that last night, but that's irrelevant).
-
"Awkward Zone: Defeated" has the makings of a print.
I would probably buy that.
Fancy outfits are so awesome.
-
The last panel of today's comic is the first thing in QC that has actually made me laugh out loud for... I can't even remember how long. It might be the first ever.
PS: this is by no means a slight to previous comics - I just don't usually laugh out loud at things unless I'm with other people. If I look at something funny while I'm alone, I just think "Heh. That's funny" - because there's no-one I need to show my amusement to.
-
hey thanks for reminding me why i hate this board
I know I'm on Facebook too much when I saw that and instantly looked for the 'Like' button.
-
Pretty sure both Sven and Angus come out of the closet with eachother. :-o
-
General Hospital
...That was a real show? I thought it was some generic term for the absurd number of doctor-shows on TV now. Well, another day, another piece of evidence that I'm a nut.
As for the comic, there happened to be a depressing song playing on my computer when I read it, and I still couldn't help laughing my head off at that last panel. I'd say that makes it a winner.
-
I know I'm on Facebook too much when I saw that and instantly looked for the 'Like' button.
Word. That happens to me all over the damn internet.
-
Gosh, I hope Marten and Angus wake up in bed together next comic. I can see it all now - Faye was just a stepping-stone to Marten. Angus is also less slimy when not around Faye.
-
Oh my, words can not describe how hard I lol'd at today's comic.
Or perhaps they can, but I'm not aware of the existence of said words.
-

This.
-
"Awkward Zone: Defeated" has the makings of a print.
YES.
PLEASE.
-
I don't think Angus is that bad. I'm not a shipper but I think he seems like a nice enough guy. He had a crush on a girl who worked somewhere and he kept coming into her place of business. I don't think he did anything too stalkery or weird. He wore an odd outfit so she'd notice him. Is that any different than a girl putting on some lipstick and tight jeans, hoping her crush will notice?
I don't think he's smarmy. He's sweet and a bit clueless. Also Faye fluctuates between conversing and being rude so he is left kind of unsure as to whether or not she means what she says. The night she threw him across a room, he was at the bar minding his own business wasn't he? She approached him to yell at him for being in the same place she was, as though the bar were her apartment. After she threw him across the room, he didn't ask her out again, he just kept coming to the coffee shop and talking to her friendly-like. I don't get why that so creepy. I've had super creepy boys up in my business and they were worse than Angus. You know what is truly creepy? Edward in Twilight. Blarrrrgh. Now there is some real deal creepy stalker boy stuff. Angus, not so much.
Oh also, seriously this line: "For instance: I posit that ladies' bosoms are rad. Do you agree?" should be a t-shirt. I haven't laughed that hard at QC in a long while. I'm always entertained, but I don't always laugh. That line though... it's hysterical. I'm a chick and I'd think that shirt would be hilarious.
-
So when are we going to get the desktop sized version of the last panel?
-
I would love a 'Friend Zone: Defeated' print, or an image large enough for my desktop...
...please! :D
-
So when are we going to get the desktop sized version of the last panel?
^ this. If I can get photoshop to work I'll just add some black lines to the top/bottom so it's desktop-fittable, then resize as appropriate.
If a print was released of this it would be bought faster than...something really fast.
EDIT: Looks good enough on mine (1280x800), but still an official one > mine. Tried to host but photobucket reduced it.
1280x800 (http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/7779/14251280x800.gif)
OK, i'm too fail to make it look good. Sorry :(
-
...I fail to understand the Angus hate.
Seriously, judging by a majority of the justifications I've read, it seems that a number of you have completely misinterpreted his presence in this comic. Stalkerish? Annoying? Disgusting?
He's just an average guy, a little dorky at worst. And he seems to get along rather well with the cast. I would say he even seems like a decent fit into their group.
Where is all of this hate coming from?
-
I know I'm on Facebook too much when I saw that and instantly looked for the 'Like' button.
I want to Digg comments/posts down constantly. :-(
This comic was awesome, by the way.

AWKWARD ZONE DEFEATED!
I DEMAND PRINTS! BACKGROUNDS! T-SHIRTS! TEA CUPS! D CUPS! . . .Might have gone too far. Oooo a little avatar would also be nice.
Btw Angus cool.

The thing is that Faye likes Angus. She was attracted to him from the start and so she treated him horribly. If you remember, before she started sleeping with him, Faye was constantly berating Sven. Not that she treated him all that great when they were sleeping together. It's her defense mechanism and I think Angus gets that.
Angus was gone for months! Hardly the actions of an obsessed stalker. It's not like he's cruising the bushes outside her building and peeping through her bedroom window with binocs., people!
-
It's good there are Angus-like characters - more males in the cast, who aren't smarmosaurs like Sven. It's why I like Amir so much. That and the fact he's Indian (parents are Indian, I was born in England)
-
I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm not really a fan of Angus either. I think part of the problem is that he comes off as being "That Guy" too much. The instances of him openly entering the coffee shop just to argue with Faye strike me as being a socially awkward thing to do and it makes it hard for me to like him as a character.
A little more characterization might help. As he gets more scenes where we get to see him doing things other than what I mentioned above he might become more enjoyable as a character.

Public service announcement:
Consumption of alcohol to the point of clear intoxication in fact does the exact opposite of making one more eloquent. Studies of how well one rocks a tuxedo, top hot and monocle are still in progress.

Oh god, today's strip, I loved it.
I like Angus and I'm kind of hoping a nice little bromance happens with him and Marten. I mean, besides Steve, he doesn't really have many close guy friends

Dear sweet lord, I haven't laughed like I did while reading today's comic in ages (well, I laughed like that last night, but that's irrelevant).
Seconded! This is the funniest one in a long time. "Awkward Zone: Defeated" would make a great print.
-
This is the first comic since...# 646, I believe, that made me laugh out loud.
Top hat, monacle, fancy suits...epic epic win.

Mein Arsch, es ist ablachen.
(Today's comment brought to you in rusty German for no particular reason.)

I hope Jeph realizes that the last panel will definitely need to be available as a print. Or at least on a shirt.

"I hope Jeph realizes that the last panel will definitely need to be available as a print. Or at least on a shirt."
That being on a shirt would diffuse so many awkward situations just by being there...

I know I'm on Facebook too much when I saw that and instantly looked for the 'Like' button.
I want to Digg comments/posts down constantly. :-(
I tried to check if I had mod points to mod your post "interesting", then I remembered this is not Slashdot. (really, this happens to me more and more)

And I kinda relate to Faye in that respect (among others): I've had a tendancy, in my late teens, to behave awfully (with cruel sarcasm or just plain rude mockery) to girls I were (deep down) attracted to. I thankfully got over this issue.

I've just heard from Joel Grey and Liza Minnelli - They'd like their costumes back :D
I'm in two minds about Angus, sometimes he annoys me, sometimes he's an interesting character. I think that Faye does actually like him, but after the Sven debacle, she's a little gunshy.

I want to know what kind of awesome bar has fancy finery on tap. lol

The comic reminds me of this scene in Beerfest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eogh3PuoByo

...I fail to understand the Angus hate.
I'm of the belief that alot of people who hate Angus are...
1. Angry Marten/Faye shippers, still upset their ship didn't sail, and thus, hysterically violten to anyone who threatens Faye's singleness ( so long as she single, Marten/Faye can still happen!).
2. People who don't like the fact that Angus isn't as physically attractive as Sven.
-
I have some more song title suggestions for Sven:

Personal favorite? Gotta be "I Keep Forgettin' I Forgot About You".
-
1. Angry Marten/Faye shippers
I think angry Sven/Faye shippers is more likely, myself being a former shipper of Marten and Faye who has long since accepted Marten and Dora as a couple. I really like Angus though, he is an entertaining character and the interactions between him and Faye are far more fun to read than those between Faye and Sven.

Are you kidding? Marten/Faye is the one thing in this comic that can NEVER, EVER, EVER happen. No, just no. And reason 2... what? I don't care if Angus is the platonic goddamn IDEAL of fairness. He still needs to leave Faye alone, she is hurt and vulnerable.
-
That's a really interesting point.
Jeph has in general chosen a pretty realistic approach to his comic. Even the little robots running around have consistent characterization and act according to a consistent logic.
This choice makes it easier to care about the characters.
Are the ventures into surrealism, like the Department of Kicking Your Ass, so funny just because Jeph only does them as occasional exceptions?

Most definitely. His most egregious departure from "reality", comic #666, he even had the decency to declare non-canonical.

You're making Faye sound like some wilting lily, so hurt and traumatized by her past that she cannot bear to even live! AT least that's the kind of impression I'm getting from all these Angus haters. Faye does have ahurtful past, but it's not effecting her to the point where she's not acting like Faye. She's still a tough, foul mouthed quasi-bitch, who can still remain loyal to her friends and have fun.
You know, this entire debate is pointless! Jeph is still going to use Angus whether we want him to or not. Jeph doesn't strike me as being too similar to, say, modern comic book publishers, who frequently change around stories to add elements fans want. If Jeph has decided to use Angus and make him part of the cast, it is set in stone!
Jeez! I'm finally starting to understand all those people who say "But they're just fictional characters."
-

I don't think Steve's advendture falls into that category, because it had lasting repercussions and everybody remembers it. The non-continuity strips are such because the events depicted aren't canonical, I'd think.
-
"Surreal" in the sense of something that wouldn't happen in our reality. Bad relationships are part of our world, troublesome computers are part of our world even if ours don't walk and talk, but Steve's adventure was part of a world that overlaps with the James Bond world. Yes to your point that it was part of QC's "reality", unlike say #666.
-
I like Angus. He is sweet. And awkward.
Faye told her therapist that Angus was "hot". So she is attracted to him at least physically.
Faye just likes being righteously indignant about anything she can. She is very defeatist that way. She hung out with Sven so she could bitch at him about what a lousy person he is and have something to rant about. Angus doesn't give her much to rant about and I think she is really reaching when she complains that he is "stalking" her.
I think if she let him, he could be a good friend to her.
-
"Awkward Zone: Defeated" has the makings of a print.
Yup. Gave me a good laugh!
The only jarring note is the uncharacteristic intrusion of style and elegance into the QC universe...
-
I think everyone's being too hard on Angus. It's not like he knows about her father killing himself right in front of her, or Sven being a manwhore and hurting her feelings. He has no reason to be sensitive about things he doesn't know about.
-
I seee Jeph has a love for fancy outfits as much as I do. I have about 7 badly Paint.net drawn Top Hats and Monacles added on to a few pictures...
-
Angus seems to be a good person, but his opening in #779 was on the tasteless side, and she told him pretty directly to leave her alone in #780, with some further insistence on boundaries in #784.
I wonder about him, because I don't think he's seen Faye's good side. Either he's so perceptive that he sees through her porcupine defenses, or he's gravitating to unhealthy relationships. Given his ex, I suspect the latter. Someone attracted to the worst in Faye doesn't seem likely to be good for her.
(I realize that even if they were real this would be none of my business).
-
Look, I don't even like Faye all that much, and I still get the urge to pick up Angus by his scrawny neck and RIP HIS GODDAMN EYES OUT AND MAKE HIM EAT THEM.
holy SHIT. this guy needs to LEARN HIS DAMN BOUNDARIES.
-
We can all agree that the reason that Angus hangs around is because of Faye right? Frankly, he doesn't seem like that bad of a person as some people make him out to be. "Boundries" be damned I say. He likes Faye, and she has this whole aggressive repulsion thing going on with the people in her life. There's something to be said about matching wits with a character, a la Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing."
I'm not pretending to know the whole character development that Jeph has in mind, but seriously who's never heard the idea that opposites attract. I mean really, Angus gets paid to lose arguments. Anytime he could get to try and win one or at least defend a position righteously seems like something he might enjoy thoroughly. Even if Faye really doesn't like him, it's not like he knows that.
The only inkling we could have is the fact that she just got out of a bad relationship, sort of, and frankly there are way too many unknowns with Faye's personality to judge whether she is or isn't interested.
Anyway, I know that I'm a n00b here in the forum, but I've kinda got this OCD thing with stories that I find interesting. I read the whole series in one night basically non-stop and this opinion is the result of it. Of course it could be the fact that I've been up for 24 hours straight with the help of adderall, but whatever.
-
Does he like Faye, or does he just like arguing with her?
-
Does he like Faye, or does he just like arguing with her?
I think the question would be more if he likes her (normal use of the verb), or if he likes her (euphemistic use of the verb). I'm pretty sure of the former, and matching wits is definitely part of it. I'm not quite certain of the latter, although I think he may be growing fond of her. And matching wits is definitely part of it.
-
People may be disliking Angus, but you all seem to be forgetting this is a slice-of-life comic.
You'll run in to people like this and you'll just have to deal with them.
