Title: I miss the old G4.
Post by: NeverQuiteGoth on 03 Jul 2009, 10:17: Way back when, I used to have it on in the background pretty much 24-7. Portal. Cinematech. Icons. And the other neat little segments.

After the DTV conversion, my house is getting G4 again, and it has really gone *shudder* mainstream. Its so sad. Its like being reunited with your long lost childhood best friend only to find out they've become a dickwad sociopath. :-(

Also the straight black and white texts without music. I thought they were clever and interesting to pay attention to... Apparently it's all about color and music all the time.... every time.... endlessly.... until we realize we were never paying attention at all.

Teck TV was really great. I loved Kevin Rose segments..... but absolutely hated Martin Sargent.

The rest of their schedule is made up of episodes of Cops (and Cops 2.0, which is stupid), Cheaters and movies. It gets better, the network is reportedly having financial problems and as a result, cut X-Play down to I believe just three or four new episodes a week. Hell, they won't even or aren't able to shell out money to pay royalties on licensed songs, which makes reviewing any audio product on AOTS hard for the cast.

The first ten or fifteen minutes are dedicated to showing clips of the five "most popular" videos on the internet, with Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn making jokes about them and skits parodying them. The end of the show they'll usually show an "epic fail", which is just a clip of something trying to do a stunt and utterly failing at it. In between those two bookends, it depends on the day, but its pretty much just DVD reviews, gadget reviews, etc.

I can't even begin to count how many awesome computer tips I got from the Screen Savers. Now I can't even begin to count the number of brain cells that die on me every time I watch AOTS for 5 minutes. Also, is it just me or does Adam Sessler bear an uncanny resemblance to Alton Brown? Either way, I like both of them, so I'm not complaining.

Okay, well Venture Bros. is funny and metalocalypse, but the problem is that it's always the same joke.

Wrong. Attack of The Show and The Screensavers ran alongside each other, but like everything good that made G4TechTV what it was, they cut it.

I agree with everything in this thread, including disliking Olivia Munn.
I can't stand the direction they've taken with the show. They don't even HAVE content anymore, all they do is repeat word-perfect news reports from Kotaku, and idiotic memes from 4chan. It's so sad. I loved TechTV, I loved it even more when G4 and TechTV merged, but then it just went to crap.
Now, instead of The Screensavers, we have "Attack Of The Show", instead of Filter, we have... Well, they kept filter around for a while, but then it was only "Vote for your top ten dildos/hot chicks/idiotic meme" before they sacked it. They even ruined Cheat with that Kristen Holt chick. Man, they all piss me off.

I am glad that they got rid of those two idiots who reviewed games, not too sure of the name of the show, but they were so biased...
