Title: Illusion of Gaia (and other SNES oldies)
Post by: Prince of Space on 01 Sep 2009, 20:46
I was deprived of a SNES growing up, so I've been catching up on the good oldies as an adult.
One of the recent ones my boyfriend has prompted me to play is Illusion of Gaia.  I'm liking it so far.

A few others I've caught up on are Earthbound, Goemon, and Link to the Past.

What are some of your favorites?  Any you would like to see rehashed?

metal marines was always one of my faves on snes.   and of course the various final fantasy games.  romance of the three kingdoms was one of my earliest koei games (bandit kings of ancient china being the actual first, original nes) and that led me through the whole series which is up to 11 or something now and also led to the dynasty warriors games.

In the same vein as Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma.

I do remember lemmings!  Frustrating, but really fun at the same time.

Did anyone ever play Earthbound?  I was skeptical about it at first, but after I played it (and laughed aloud several times) I felt silly for doubting it.

Earthbound is one of my absolute favorite games of all time. If you have some time, track down the GBA sequel (it's called Mother 3, because Earthbound's Japanese name was Mother 2). There's an English translation patch on the internet that a couple of dudes spent like 2 years making, and it's awesome.

Was the SNES version of Shadowrun any good?

I keep hearing about how the Genesis version was great but I have a copy of the SNES version.

I have yet to play it but I have a three day weekend coming up and I might want to take a break from System Shock 2.

SNES Shadowrun was a pretty good RPG which used the Shadowrun setting well, the mechanics on the other hand are unrecognizable. It is quite fun though.

Absolutely, FFII is definitely in the top tiers of SNES games.

I particularly favored a good strategy game and Koei made the best of those. Genghis Khan, P.T.O., Romance of the Three Kingdoms, etc.

PREPARE TO BE ROMANCED!

I miss the K-A rating.

Tales of Phantasia is fun. Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars (if that's the title) is great too.

Oh man, that's pretty much my boyfriend's favorite game.  I still have yet to try it out.  I remember seeing it when I was first dating him(7 years ago) and thinking 'god, these graphics' (me=dumb), but after watching him for a while and seeing how clever/funny it was, I wanted to pick it up myself.  I should probably get to that, haha.  That was a while ago..
