For those of you who do not know of the classic educational game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Trail_(game)), either read that link or I'll give a summary.
You get in a wagon, you get a bunch of people, and you make your way to Oregon from Missouri back in 1848.
Basically I want to play the game, but I want people's input on what the hell I'm to do. It's a game about a group of people, so I figured I might as well play it as a group.
First things first, what the shitter am I gonna' be?

And in case you want to know the differences:

-
fuck farmers and bankers, they have no use on the trail, clearly carpenter is the best option.
-
Man this game brings back memories.
I second the Carpenter choice.
-
Carpenter it is then.
Now, I want to name the other 4 after QC members. Suggestions?
-
Yeah the carpenter path seems like a good middle choice
I nominate Johnny C for your party so he can die of syphillis
-

Another guy then two female forumites, me thinks.
-
i bet paul would enjoy an Oregon excursion
-
With the addition of Paul and Jodie (Dollface's choice on Meebo), our grand wagon crew is looking for one more experienced lass to come along for a journey of fun and laughs and hopefully not-too-much-syphillis.

-
hmmm who would enjoy a rough stint in the wilderness
hrmmmm Andy practically lives in undiscovered country she might be perfect for this team
-
Put Est in there
-
I say we put another Thomas in there for confusion's sake.
-
Okay, so the game version I was playing exploded. But look! I got a more distorted version to play! Wheeee
So after finding the version of the game (which only allows capital letters to be used), this is the final selection I have settled upon.

When do we leave, you colonial types?

JUNE
JUNE IS BEST MONTH
-
JUNE IS COOL
-
June it is then!
$800? Where's the option to buy some pot?
Hi Matt!
What should we buy, people?
AND YES I KNOW IT DONT DONE GIVE PRICES, THATS COS IT HATES US.
DOLLFACE DID DONE SOME RESEARCH
Oxen: 40
1 pound of food: 0.20
Clothes: 10
Bullets: 2.0
Spare parts: 10
-
Go gangster and only buy 1 box of ammo.
That way you can't just slaughter an entire forest every week to eat. Make your buffaloes count.
PS - Tell Matt you know me, he'll give you a discount
-
June was a poor choice. What you do is you leave as early as possible, but with no food. Buy all the bullets you can, and spend the first month hunting right outside the first town. That way you end up leaving a bit later (like mid May) and you can get the max 2000 lbs of food.
-
Buy Ammo and then steal the other supplies.
-
"The next day: A tender letter arrives from Hiram the blacksmith. Do you want to read it?"
-
Buy a lot of food, buy clothes for everyone, get at least 2 oxen, and some of the others, too.

But then all of the food will go bad immediately.
I agree with Linds on the purchases.
-
I am so totally playing this too. Let's see which one of us gets closer to Oregon!
-
Amazon Trail 4 Lyfe
-
Dude, I had this exact conversation about a month ago. I thought the Amazon Trail was more interesting, but I had no idea what was happening and I'd always die.
-
UPDATE: So far Oli got dysentery, and May got lost. Dammit May, it took us five days to find you!
(My trip is me, Jens, Kris, May, and Oli. Most of the Camp Eed gang!)
-
But wait! Thomas Edison can't lead people in a Journey on the Oregon Trail! He was only a year old! Anachronism!
-
I had no idea what was happening and I'd always die.
Painstaking realism.
I lol'd
-
UPDATE: Oli got lost for two days (idiot) and Jens has cholera. Shit.
EDIT: Oli now has a fever, and Jens has typhoid to go with his cholera. Shit.
EDIT 2: Jens has died. And now Kris has dysentery.
-
Diseases for everyone!
-
May died, and I think maybe Kris? I exited the little message too quickly.
Also now I have cholera. Fuck.
EDIT: OMG I made it to Oregon! Fuck yes! So it turns out that Kris did actually die. Oli and I were the only ones to survive the journey, but I had cholera and he was in "fair health." Go us!
-
Wait, what did I die of? You can't just slip that in there as a little aside!
Also, how do I get in on this?
-
It literally did not say, you just died. Probably of dysentery or cholera.
-
from wikipedia
The term "You have died of dysentery" has been popularized on T-shirts and internet swag.
-
(http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/3539/journey1j.png)
Now we're getting somewhere, folk.

"We're here!"
"Where's Kris?"
"Oh, I guess he died after all."
-
Kris is a girl!
-
Or so you think............ :?
I vote to continue on the trail.
-
Kris is a man until I say otherwise.
The manliest of men.
-
No, that's Gemm.
-
My bad.
Sorry Kris.
-
Or so you think............ :?
I vote to continue on the trail.
What trail? Where's this trail? You need to check the map first!
-
There is apparently a trail. I am assuming this trail is not to the post office or the discothèque.
-
trail to the discothèque.
I would probably play this game.
-
Talk to people man. Get to chattin.
-
Oh it's a Let's Play thread.
At some point I'm probably going to do one of these for Fallout 1.
-

-
Fuck that, looking around's for watchers. Be a doer, man!
-
That river might be deep, look for another around or over.
-
Oh, my mistake. I thought this was a thread about Organ Trail, the popular educational children's game about backwoods body-part harvesting. I guess it won't be so risky to stop and look around after all.
I should've realised when "Butcher from Kentucky" wasn't on the list of playable characters.
-
Talk to people and check your supplies.
-
I looked around. There was shit all and my supplies rocked.

Take a ferry.
-
It's only 3 feet. A real pioneer has balls that hang lower than that. Ford that sucker.
-
Sir Juggles makes a good point!
Ah. Fuck.
Ah, c'mon.
Ah, c'moooooon.
Ah, COME OOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNN
(http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/3889/journey1u.png)
Choose, you unlucky fucks.
-
Ford again, no guts no little house on the prairie glory.
-
(http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/4619/journey1v.png)
Well that's not so bad!--
(http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3055/journey1w.png)
FUCK. Who fell asleep with a spliff in their mouth?
The journey so far has been alright?
Oh boy.
Awh fuck.
:'[
(http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/4900/journey2b.png)
CHOOOOOSE.
-
its clear whats going on here...
Sabotage!
-
I told you you shouldn't have ley dysentery come along. Little shit's nothing but trouble.
-
if you rest a few days when people get sick they tend to survive a bit longer.
-
yes, I vote rest to let johnny's and andy's illnesses settle down
-
Andy is dead. There's not getting better for her!
-
she'll be fine in the morning dammit.
-
It's better to be dead when the organ harvesters finally catch up with you.
-
And You Will Know Us By The Oregon Trail Of Dead
-
Rest for three days, it does wonders and you really don't lose anything!
-
Though don't be surprised if you wake up in an ice-bath with a scar where your kidney should be.
-
There's going to be a large, three-dimensional scar on my insides?
-
So here's what you do:
Stick Andy on top of the wagon. When the crows and vultures come, KILL THEM AND EAT THEM.
-
So here's what you do:
Stick Andy on top of the wagon and take a shortcut through Reaver territory.
-
There's going to be a large, three-dimensional scar on my insides?
They use an ice-cream scoop. They're only poor, ill-equipped hillbilly organ harvesters, after all.
-
So here's what you do:
Stick Andy on top of the wagon and take a shortcut through Reaver territory.
I ain't goin' nowhere near Reaver territory. Them people ain't human.
-
Dude, never ford the river. ALWAYS caulk the wagon and float it.
-
Yeah, what is the downside of caulking?
-
People sometimes turn it into a dick joke.
-
What he said.
-
Dude, never ford the river. ALWAYS caulk the wagon and float it.
Though you should under no circumstances EVER ford the river, cocking and bloating the wagon is pretty dangerous as well. I generally lose the baby caulking and floating. Springing for the ferry generally results in success and doesn't cost much money, if I recall correctly.
If you are broke though, you should certainly do the penising.
-
Also is Johnny better yet, because I for reals want this expedition to get back on the road.
-
I ford rivers all the god damned time Oregon Trail. You'll usually lose some time but you'll rarely ever lose any food, and that's the important thing.
