You decide, we have until tuesday
-
(It's Low - Things We Lost In The Fire)
-
Oh I didn't know this was like, the last part of the series of threads you've had on this competition. I thought it was just a thread declaring Low as awesome.
Anyway the answer is Low
-
Low
-
Well, do we even need this thread at this point? I'm still voting for Funeral by the Arcade Fire, but can't we just award that title to Low, right now?
-
I'm voting for Arcade Fire
-
Yyyyyyyyeah, Things We Lost In the Fire.
-
Low - Things We Lost In The Fire

i will lose hope in this forum if arcade fire wins. really guys?
-
If you really wanted to turn the tide in Low's favor you could point out that if we say Funeral is better than Things We Lost In The Fire, we will be just like Pitchfork.
-
OH NOES we dont want to b liek teh p4k, rite?????
-
Low
-
funeral by arcade fire
-
Low
-
Forum, you now have the choice between a really good album and a pretty boring, standard indie rock record that nobody will remember twenty years from now.
I will remember it just to spite you.
-
Someone should totally start a pool for how long it'll take for Pitchfork to break down and make a "top records ever" list.
-
You should probably have put a poll in this thread.
-
I'm not sure what the greatest album of the decade is, but it sure as hell isn't either of these. What the hell is wrong with you people?
-
I think Pitchphork should rate the best music of all time.
-
I'll congratulate you if you do. Also Pitchfork's "TOP RECORDS EVER" will probably rank it in the top 10. and it does NOT count if you suddenly remember they existed because of Pitchfork.
I don't give fuck about pitchfork.
I'm not sure what the greatest album of the decade is, but it sure as hell isn't either of these. What the hell is wrong with you people?
I agree
-
All of you jerks that voted for Arcade Fire are... jerks. Yeah.
LOW
LOW
LOW
(Still mad about Okkervil River losing out so early but Low is a good substitute)
-
no it isn't you silly girl
-
The Arcade Fire.
(this is the first round that I can vote in all brackets)
-
Low
-
Mediocrity wins again!
Low, I guess.
Geez.
-
I think Pitchphork should rate the best music of all time.
Beethoven
To be honest, Beethoven did not write concertos that were good, whereas Mozart did. Also, Mozart's later symphonies heavily inspired Beethoven's early work. I'd honestly say that Beethoven never figured out how to write a complete piece of music until his fifth symphony (despite the fact that I do consider his third symphony the first Romantic piece of music).
p.s. Stravinsky.
-
Arcade Fire.
-
I forgot this was still going on.

I find the Fifth to drag on too long. I've heard that is a problem with a lot of his work, but I haven't heard enough to know for sure.
I think the problem with this was that we aren't getting the best album, we are getting the album that the most people don't dislike. Same problem as tends to happen with popular music.
-
I find the Fifth to drag on too long. I've heard that is a problem with a lot of his work, but I haven't heard enough to know for sure.
1) The coda certainly is...significant, but at least it doesn't just kind of fizzle like his previous four symphonies (was reminded of this fact yesterday upon attending a performance of his first, which I've actually played before). That and he brings his motivic development to a very pleasing close in the fifth.
2) Listen to more Beethoven. I actually prefer his less popular symphonies more, probably due to the unfamiliarity. Though, there does seem to have been a bit of a push recently to play his first two symphonies. Maybe because of the recent 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth.
3) I was really drunk when I made that post, but I still stand by it pretty much. The only thing is that the subject under discussion was concertos, and I brought up Stravinsky, whose main focus was ballet.
-
I was thinking that it was going a bit long before the coda, at which point I heard the recapitulation begin and thought "Oh, good, it is almost done." The coda started shortly afterward, and I stopped paying any attention to it.
He starts off strong, but tends to draw it out for too long with too little, which is by no means a rare mistake. I seem to remember some of Bach's work getting a bit self-indulgent with harpsichord solos, to the point where even Iron Butterfly would think it is a bit over-done.
-
You guys like hideously boring music.
-
I guess I have to go with Low...
But I still think The Manical Vale was the shit... you guys suck.
-
Yeah. Arcade Fire. I can't understand how Low is in the running this far. It's good. It's just not great.
-
There are probably about ten bands in the history of American rock music which might stand a chance against Low
Man, I'm gonna chalk that up to knowing hyperbole since it's just a completely crazy thing to say.
-
I'd swap you a Minutemen for a Replacements but yeah, pretty much.
-
These things always end up as "which band is better" contest. It's rather irritating.
-
And Tommy goes blah blah blah low is an amazing band. I don't care. I found Things We Lost In The Fire boring and I find Funeral more fun to listen to.
I also don't think these results are entirely legitimate, considering the hullabaloo at the beginning.
(I'm rather amused hullabaloo is in Firefox's dictionary)
-
I am very sorry our competition is not as well run as yours, JD.
-
These things always end up as "which band is better" contest. It's rather irritating.
Uh, what? It's a competition where people vote on which band they prefer. What were you expecting it to be?
-
looking back that this i have only one real regret.
why the fuck did i not nominate jokes by kidcrash what the hell guys.
-
I am very sorry our competition is not as well run as yours, JD.
You should be.(I kid, If there was a website people could listen to everything, regardless of your geographical position, this would have gone way better)
-
You mean, like the Internet?
No album on the list is rare enough that 10 mins on google wouldn't find it
-
10 minutes of Google searching, for any album that was in this contest, is probably a gross overstatement.
-
Hissing Fauna, are you the Destroyer?
Oh wait.
Things We Lost in the Fire
-
Skeletal Lamping
Oh wait.
Things We Lost in the Fire
FYP.

Apparently Low must be the greatest band I would never listen to for longer than 2 minutes.
-
my eyeeeeeeesssssss
-
Hey look it's a penis!
-
Low.
-
Whoever has the Kevin Barnes gag account is slacking the fuck off.
-
Hey man fuck you. I have important shit to do. Monday is Mile High Club day.
Y'all should feel privileged to witness the glorious cock of Kevin Barnes.
Low are a bunch of pussies. If they could just take a minute to get off Brigham Young's rotting cock they might make a decent fucking album.
Peace xo
Kevie

I'm going to say Funeral, Things We lost in the fire and slowcore music in general is just bland and bleh.
-
Arcade Fire.
Can't believe I'm voting for Funeral, but this is a pretty disappointing final round.
-
Low.
What a wonderful album to play really loud.
-
Deerhoof, Sonic Youth
Sucking at music a good band does not make, Tommy.
And honestly, maybe Low did pioneer slow-core, but I'm still set in my ways that the American Analog Set perfected it.
-
Low. I've been abstaining up until now, but I have to cast a vote at this point because this things usually end embarrassingly.
Shane, AAS are slowcore? They're slow, but they sound absolutely nothing remotely like any of the 'pioneers' of the genre and are lacking in any of the genre characteristics, except for their preference for slower tempos.
Take all the bands from Tommy's last post and throw them onto a compilation with the American Analog Set, they'd be the odd one out. They write pop songs. Mostly slow pop songs, but still pop songs nonetheless. They also use a drum machine and a heavily processed guitar sound which makes them sound remarkably sterile next to bands as dynamic as those guys, too.
Slow=/=Slowcore
-
Low won
-
Wait, what?
-
I predict the most subdued victory party ever.
-
hooray
-
wooo
-

You know I'd been trying to put my finger on why slowcore was so goddamn dull and it all makes sense now.
-
Well, that's just the American Analog Set, which aren't actually slowcore. Most of them actually have pretty heavy drummers.
-
Dude, fuck the subdued party.
I LOVE LOW. THIS MAKES ME SUPER HAPPY YAYYYYY
-
Okkervil River or Soulwax should have won
-
They couldn't both have won!
That's ludicrous.
-
key word being or
-
I'm still upset that Somebody Came Suddenly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs-SZSHUc6g&feature=PlayList&p=A3FCE4558DE53081&index=0&playnext=1) didn't even make it through the nomination process.
