obvious troll.
-
well gee I wonder how that happened all of a sudden (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Crunk&diff=319588433&oldid=319584373)
-
"do not have rich melodies" is a pretty glaring value judgment
-
I'm sorry, I found most of that hilarious. Even I refer to it as "Ni**er music".
-
That would probably be a bad idea for me, considering I'm extremely white, wear German camouflage, and already strike everyone as unbalanced (apparently my default expression is scowling).
I didn't really find it funny, though. ED can sometimes be funny with their... somewhat insensitive articles, but this one wasn't funny. Might be funnier if I had ever heard the genre, but I doubt it.
-
I see what you did there.
-
The growing interest in crunk music among white music producers caused the appearance of various subgenres of crunk, including eurocrunk, crunkcore, crunkczar, aquacrunk, and we're-making-this-shit-up-crunk; crunk music started getting intensively mixed with [[dubstep]]. Fortunately, there are some out there, keeping the genre pure. Unfortunately, they are not working as hard to keep the white race pure.
Wow.
-
i honestly thought that would a be a link to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs)
i have absolutely no beef with people of other races, but i'll admit some of the entries on that list are pretty funny.

Pancake Face, Pancake
An Asian person
I don't get it.
-
yeah there's plenty that don't make any sense, but some are pretty funny. also, it's rather ironically NOT racist, as they cover most races in that list!
-
Zombiedude, maybe it's because pancakes are yellow-ish and the current Asian ideal of beauty seems to be more round-faced than the euro-centric ideal?
-
If you have to discuss it, it's not that good a slur.

Why didn't they do waffles then?

Pancake Face, Pancake
An Asian person
I don't get it.
Our faces are supposed to be yellow, round, and flat. Hilarious eh?

Umm, yeah, don't listen to me. I find this kind of thing hilarious. Half of the time, when there are racist jokes against black folk being tossed around, I'm the one dishing them out...
EDIT::
Case in point...

It is okay when you as a black dude does it though because then it is pretty much always a joke.
If you have a white dude doing it outside of specific context it's pretty racist no matter how funny it is.
-
So when a black guy says it it isn't offensive at all?
-
That depends on who you ask, but usually not in popular culture.
-
I never really understood that rule. Groups can make fun of themselves using derogatory terms and it is okay, but as soon as someone outside that group does it, it is considered racist or sexist or whatever-ist?
-
yeah
if you are oppressed then you can take the sign of your oppression and reappropriate it. if you are not and use the same sign then you are continuing the oppression
(this is a very simplistic take on it - i'd be willing to bet that BrittanyMarie could give a legit explanation on it, i think she probs has the best analysis on this of DISCUSS folks)
-
Okay, I guess that makes sense. But why reappropriate it at all, if it just serves as a reminder of said oppression?
-
Because it's kind of laughing in the face of the oppression. It removes a lot of the power the oppressor had over the oppressed with those words and stereotypes if you just turn them into a huge joke.
-
Or if you're like me, and you don't really care either way, and when someone is being racist, you throw back racial slurs and horribly offensive things their way.
But just for the record, if anyone's watched (the uncut version of) How High, you'll know that there are black folk that still don't take lightly to the N-bomb, no matter who it's coming from.
But I'm just offensive all around.
