Looks very "gentle drama." I'd be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, if I could be convinced it wasn't boring.

I guess a hard drama would be Crash? I never really liked Crash

Well yeah, Crash was terrible and weirdly exploitative.  I just mean that the conflict of the film seems to take place in a pretty small world, isn't life and death, doesn't concern any lofty concepts or violent crimes, etc. It's not necessarily a value judgement; it's just that a "gentle drama" as I think of it is sometimes in more danger of being boring than other kinds of films.

Hey, that also sums up that 30 Rock episode I watched last night.

The difference is 30 Rock is intentionally ridikolus, whereas Crash is unintentionally (and thus painfully) ridikolus.

(the spelling is in homage to that episode of 30 Rock)

what the hell are you guys talking about

Crash is about people who get off on car wrecks and, if my memory serves, there is pretty much no racism in the movie whatsoever.

nevermind, there are apparently two movies called Crash

Yeh, we're talking about the Academy Award Winner for Best Picture, not the one based on the J.G. Ballard book.

I thought Crash was about Academy Award voters being raging homophobes? Or was that just the subtext?

Crash is kinda like if a complete fucking moron watched "Do The Right Thing" and decided to make a movie.

While Haggis bashing is all good and fun I think the desecration of Lennon's corpse is at least as important and more topical. Looks like a boring Merchant-Ivory movie.

At least they're treading less-common territory. Normally with a Lennon biopic you'd start with the Beatles at the height of their power and end with him getting gunned down. It's refreshing to see it from another perspective, at least conceptually.

I know, they inject it with all those preservatives and put it on display for people! Sick!

oh wait, never mind.

That would make for a funny visual actually.
