Fiddlesticks!
-
Shiiit.. Thats a nice cover, too.
-
You can listen to a song from it here (http://www.tra-la-la-band.com/preview/)!
-
also guys if you didn't know there are live recordings of metal bird and there is a light out there too.
-
listening to this song.
holy damn efrim's voice is actually palatable now. this song isn't hitting me particularly hard at the moment but its cool.
-
downloading this now you fucks
-
But what's the leak quality like? Care to point us towards a good one?

But what's the leak quality like? Care to point us towards a good one?
took me about five seconds on google to find a 130 meg .rar, so i would assume the quality is pretty high.
i'll let you know in about 3 minutes.
edit: 320 kbps. this version of "there is a light" sounds a lot like Spiritualized in a very good way. i mean a LOT.
-
my copy is around 220. it sounds just fine.
i just started it though.
-
Shiiiiiiiiit yes.
-
okay so im pretty much done with my first listen now. man, this record rules so much. this album has lost the bluesyness of 13 moons... but the band still has all the fiery energy from that record, especially in metal bird. they also do some quieter string heavy stuff, which they haven't done in ages and that ruled too. basically, asmzs still got it despite losing a guitar and cello.
might throw this up on my blog later today/tomorrow. ill put it up in the mediafire thead too if its not up yet.
-
13 moons... still ends so much better though.

the first half of metal bird on this is heavy as fuck and it's awesome.
agree that it doesn't end on as high a note as last album. piphany rambler is not a bad song but should have been in the middle, not at the end. they really front-loaded this album with amazingness. hell i think they could have just put there is a light at the end instead of the beginning and the album as a whole would improve.
it's still a 9/10 for me.
pitchfork will give it a 7.2
-
Pitchfork:
1. Do some people call it post-rock?
2. Yes.
3. Give it a random score from 5.0 - 7.2.
4. Write 2 paragraph review in which you talk about something totally irrelevant (THE DECLINE OF THE POST-ROCK SCENE) for the first paragraph and come up with a completely ridiculous suggestion for improvement (THIS PELICAN ALBUM NEEDS VOCALS) for the second.
5. ???
6. Profit.
-
Srsly though I'll be damned if 95% of post-rock sounds kinda formulaic.
Don't know if I'd put Silver Mt. Zion in that 95%, but whatever.
-
there's only so many times you can swirl majestically to the same epic, closing crescendo
-
silver mt. zion haven't really been post-rock for the past 3 albums. in fact they've never sounded like the "mogwai/eits/gy!be" post-rock subgenre.
-
fun fact that nobody asked for or cares about: the only SMZ album I really like is Horses In The Sky.
But I really really really like it alot.
-
It is their best album so if you've gotta pick one that'll be it.

if you haven't heard it, check out the Pretty Little Lightning Paw EP that came out right before that album. it's fairly similar so i think you would like it.

so are you actually jackie's sister, or just jackie through a different account?
what makes you say that? i joined way before he got banned, i just wasn't able to post for a long time because our IP was banned, not just his account.
-
say hi for me too, jackie was an alright dude
-
This album on first listen is goddamn amazing, especially metal bird, holy shit!
Efrim actually has a tolerable voice in this as well (Although I like his voice in all its glory). Hell in KT (three dynamos) I'd go so far as call it good
