Scarred aint a troll bro

Yeah, it seems to me like he's just trying to get a bearing of who likes Jeph's art and who doesn't.
-
please lock this thread. it's flat-out unnecessary.

Sure looks like one to me. "Ooh, I'm scarred, and I'm such an original wit on teh intartubewebzorz! Waah waah, 'Jacks' art is no gud anymoar, waah waah it luks liek anime even though it totally doesn't. Waah waah, I'ma start a whole new thread to insult the cartoonist some moar rather than just not reading the strip if I don't like it anymore. Oops, time for a diaper change."
In short, if I were a mod, he'd be banned so hard it'd reach back in time and make it so that he'd never joined in the first place. :-D
-
I'ma start a whole new thread to insult the cartoonist some moar
Err... ethical quandary, do I tell him his mistake or watch as someone else lambastes him?
-
Hey, I love QC, it's one of my favorite internet comicky things. I also think there are comics with better art.
-
It's possible to feel both ways y'see
-
Agreed, and agreed.
But there are ways of saying that (you did so quite nicely and succinctly), and then there's what Scarred's doing... I'm not sure what it is he's doing, but it ain't workin'!
-
I get what he's doing; mostly because I did the same thing in another forum once.

Zagraf seems a little butthurt.

Yeah, well, it probably hurt your first time, too...

I've had bowel movements that made more sense than this shit.

Cordelia, there is a little thing that we in the business like to call "jumping to conclusions." See, it is when you make assumptions based loosely on vague facts. This is what you have done Cordelia, and it is bad. I hope you've learned your lesson about jumping to conclusions.
-
Ahahahahaha you guys actually thought I was seriously "butthurt"
Ahahahahahaha
How could I be butthurt, I'm not the cartoonist
Ahahahahahaha sounds like YOU guys are the butthurted ones who can't tell when someone's just bored out of their skull and messin' around a bit

Hey, I love QC, it's one of my favorite internet comicky things. I also think there are comics with better art.
I've always thought that Sinfest had amazing art. And Dresden Codak. Girl Genius, too.
But what is true, undeniably, is that the art of QC has shown the biggest possible improvement over the span of its existance. This is one artist who really, really works hard at his craft ad you have to admire that.
-
I've always thought that Sinfest had amazing art.
Too bad it's like a politically incorrect newspaper comic.
-
What's bad about that?
-
What's bad about that?
newspaper comic.
-
That's not really an answer, is it? Newspaper comics aren't bad per se.
-
Well, Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts ...
I think those two alone should be enough proof that newspaper comics aren't always bad.
-
The last new Calvin and Hobbes appeared December 31st, 1995. That was fourteen years ago. The Far Side ended a year before that.
Not since Charles Schulz died and the last original Peanuts was published over ten years ago (February 13, 2000) has anything worth looking at appeared on the comics page of any major newspaper.
Dilbert hates his job. Garfield loves lasagna. Cathy thinks she's fat. Nobody understands Doonesbury. God only knows why Rex Morgan and Mary Worth are still running. The Lockhorns hate each other and Crankshaft hates everyone and everything, we get it.
The concepts are flat and repetitive, the jokes are hackneyed and predictable, and the format kills any and all artistic expression, experimentation, or innovation.
Not only is the product not worth going out of your way for, but to see it you have to pay around a dollar a day to have a pile of the lowest grade paper known to man delivered to you, the handling of which gets your hands and clothes filthy, and when your done with it, you have a seven pounds of garbage to dispose of.
Don't even get me started on the 'editorial' cartoons, which for the last year (at least in the States) have been nothing more than racist depictions of Obama and three thousand variations of 'It snowed this winter so Global Warming's not real.'
But no, newspaper comics aren't bad per se.
It's just that, like the newspapers themselves, they are only a shadow of their former glory, kept going at this point by the sheer force of inertia.
This is the Twenty-first Century. Why do people insist on clinging to what is essentially a seventeenth century medium?
-
Cartoons however were quite widespread (in Germany that I know of and especially political ones) since printing was invented, so yeah.
-
...Nobody understands Doonesbury.
Speak for yerself. (well, I guess you did). I've been following Doonsbury since it started, with a 4 year gap between my local paper dropping it and it showing up online.
But yeah, most newspaper comics are like LICD without the sex. And the paper... oh, god, the trees...
And I think you meant 18th/19th century medium, there were very few papers in the 1600's - they were still using troubadours to disseminate information!
Internet killed the newspaper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSJ27TgBvJE&feature=related), but like radio it's taking its time to die.
-
when was the last time you saw a good newspaper comic though?
(Exluding Calvin and Hobbes, obviously)
Lio and Pearls before Swine come to mind
-
when was the last time you saw a good newspaper comic though?
(Exluding Calvin and Hobbes, obviously)
Two really great comics from my newspaper back home (I think it was the Star Ledger?) were Frazz (http://comics.com/frazz/) and Heart of the City (http://www.gocomics.com/heartofthecity/)
I loved each of them because they reminded me of Calvin and Hobbes, actually.
Frazz is this really smart, young janitor at an elementary school, and he reminds a lot of people of a grown up Calvin--although the author has stated that was not his intention--and the strip is about his interactions and influence with the students
Heart of the City is about a young girl and her nerdy best friend living in a big city, dealing with school and junk. It was great.
(Note: all in past tense b/c it's been ~2 years since i've read comics from my newspaper back home. I don't know if they're still funny or still running)
-

I don't know Lio at all, but Pearls before Swine has some good moments but it's pretty much three strips: rat is a terrible person, pig is nieve, or that one crocodile and his friends are really dumb
-
Lio is worse, as it's pretty much a one-trick pony.
A small child wordlessly does weird and fantastical things. It is more boring than it sounds.

Newspapers: Dead as the trees they're printed on.
'Course if they can keep vilifying New Media long enough, they might still believe that there's some legitimacy to what they're selling.
-
Ooh, a question thread.
Here's mine: can we get some rising action sometime soon, preez?
Art is art, and it was fine, and it is fine, and it's been fine.
What I like about this strip (besides its thoughtful comparison of "New Helmet" and "Classic Helmet:" http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=245 (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=245)) is the drama.
Maybe Hannelore's non-consensual blood draw will break the holding pattern . . .

Still better than Garfield
-
ALOT THINGS IS BETTER OF THE GARFIELDS.
-
It obviously states that they are already dead, which simply isn't true!
Dead in the sense of "Dead man[tree?] walkin'!"
They're still around, but their fate is sealed and it's only a matter of time.
-
No, TV caused radio to find a new venue, the car rather than the living room, they also found new programming, music and talk, rather than comedy and drama.
The advantage that big media outlets enjoyed through most of the twentieth century, i. e. that to reach a large audience, a large and expensive distribution apparatus is necessary, is gone. Thanks to the internet, an artist can deliver his work, (graphic, written, musical, audiovisual or even interactive) directly to the audience. There is no need for an army of editors, proofreaders, copywriters, typesetters, advertising agents, press operators, delivery people, and the office and administrative staff to support them to get the product to the reader. These roles are now superfluous.
Likewise, the advantage that a large distribution system gives, i. e. a super large audience, is much less necessary to support the artist. Without the big media taking its cut, a more modest audience can support an artist and his/her staff. This allows the artist to take more risks, he can now afford to tailor his message to a smaller but more loyal audience.
What has killed/is killing print, radio, telephone and televison as we know them is the internet, especially mobile internet.
If the people/companies who run these media wish to survive and stay relevant, they will have to adapt to new niches. If they try to cling to their old business model and content streams, either through oppressive intellectual property policies, or monopolistic business practices, they will lose.
Remember kids, like gravity,Darwinian selection is not just a good idea, It's the law.

c) Darwinian selection is a theory, not a law. A strong theory, yeah, and certainly a probable one, but let's stick to correct terminology, yes?
Evolution is a theory supported by all the evidence. There is nothing outthere that actually goes against it.
Gravity is also "just a theory". It has a bit more evidence on its side than evolution, but it is, nevertheless, a theory.
"Laws" are made by legislators, "rules" are made by your parents. There is no room in real science for either.

The Shape of Things -
-ackronnick says: "Darwinism is a law."
-I say (fully explained here, having relied perhaps too much on people getting my point in the original post - read it again afterwards, you'll see!): "No it ain't, it is a theory - a very solid one, but even theories that are practically proven aren't laws, they are theories." (I worded this poorly in my original post, making it sound like I was saying that if the theory was strong enough, it would be a law - which is not the case.)
-Carl-E says: "It's not a law, it's a theory. Scientific laws do not exist."
-I say in a rather dickish manner: "That's right, it's a theory, and you're wrong, scientific laws do exist."
Summa summarum: Evolution is pretty much a proven theory, it is not a law, although those do exist.
Everyone on the same page? Sweet.
Actually I said:
Remember kids, like gravity,Darwinian selection is not just a good idea, It's the law.
By which I meant that Darwinian selection is just as much a force of nature as gravity.
And you are completely correct, Darwin's Theory of Evolution by Natural selection is not strictly speaking a scientific law.
Usually I am the biggest stickler about such things.
BUT.
I was talking about the state of mass media in the Twentieth Century, not biology, and after making a long and detailed post on the matter, I thought it would be cute to end it with a little zinger. Had I been debating evolution with a creationist (which I usually refrain from, it's like trying to teach a dog to ride a bicycle, they aren't properly equipped and you both end up looking stupid) , I would have been very careful with my words, because "just a theory" is a favorite barb of those who wish to reject knowledge and reason in favor of an antiquated interpretation of a bronze age creation myth of a insignificant tribe of desert nomads. (the quotes are because that's what creationists, not anything anyone here had said.)*
So. What have we learned?
First: everyone was right, it's just that evolution is such hot button topic in some circles that if it is mentioned even in passing and the speaker doesn't use the exact orthodox terminology, people jump to all sorts of conclusions resulting in misunderstandings aplenty.
Second: We're all pedants. We love being pedantic. Pedantry is in our very nature, for some of us [meekly raises hand] it is a way of life. Long live the pedants!**
Third: We're all assholes! I'm an asshole, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o30wacwdoc) you're an asshole, he's an asshole, everybody's an asshole! This thread has more assholes than the bridge of Spaceball 1! [YO!] KEEP FIRING ASSHOLES!!!!!!11!!1!11! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZNPxxRU4Wc)***

maybe people could just stop posting in the thread and let it fall onto the second page where no one looks? Then people will forget about it and it will go away. Sometimes you don't need to get a lock on a thread, and if no mods have been in here then repeatedly asking for something to be locked isn't going to do anything other than get the thread bumped back up to the top.
Just ignore this thread and move on with your lives, people.

I would like to thank
the academy you all for posting those as multiple duplicates of the same hilarious/obnoxious gif, rather than one giant page-sized version which would have taken a distressingly long time to load. Your consideration is noted and your inevitable demise has been upgraded from "prolonged" to merely "painful" - congratulations!

I RULE 34 YOU, CORDELIA
That's...*sniff* ...that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me, Lear. I'm flattered.
-
CORDELIA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordelia_Chase)
-
And now I'm doubly flattered. I'm beginning to think you like me. Take me, you mad, wonderful fool.
-
THIS THREADS IS JUST ELABIAT ATEMPET TO ATTARCT Y0U
-
I LIEK PIE
-
An answer regarding either is acceptable.
In that case the average wind speed velocity of an unladen European swallow is approximately 11 meters per second (http://www.style.org/unladenswallow/)
Was that so hard? (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+the+average+wind+speed+velocity+of+an+unladen+swallow%3F)
-
Holy Shit. It's... it's a question with an answer.
OK, here's another question; how many licks does it take, Mr. Owl?
-
DO NOT TARY TO LIKC TEH SPOON OLNY REEL EYEZ THESE:
THERE ARE NO SPOON
-
I microwaved a frog, found out it was safe in there, then woundered...is bats? (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlUzEkrJp4yLkLeagGDWRcpFzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20081222214834AAxYzbc)
I am not the poster there. But it never ceases to amaze me how frikkin' EASY it is to troll people.
I mean, seriously? Would you have thought that the poster was actually putting animals in their microwave?
-
Only if they had licked it (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070312120653AARo4bF) first.
-
Holy Shit. It's... it's a question with an answer.
OK, here's another question; how many licks does it take, Mr. Owl?
Three.
Next question.
I mean, come on! Everyone knows that one!

How many roads must a man walk down, before they call him a man?
-
Trick question: None; if he's already a man, he's clearly walked down enough roads already.
-
OK, here's a tougher one;
How many seas must a white dove sail, before she sleeps in the sand?
-
One. There's sand at the end of every sea voyage...
Well, except maybe in Antarctica. there's probably sand under the ice somewhere, though.
-
worst thread, posted in ugliest subforum
-
This is a perfectly acceptable thread that I have just sold to a stranger.
-
please, please somebody drive it away and set fire to it in a ditch
-
Kill it with a slightly warm rag that is kinda wet but not realy, you know in that way you can tell it is wet but it isn't dripping, ya know?
-
We tried nuking it in a microwave, that only seemed to make it angry. We might be able to burn it, if someone has access to thermite. Or a bunch of lithium batteries.
-
Even the Klingon Empire looks askance at trying to destroy this Thread
The Borg took one look and ran.
-
"Assimilate this??
Hell no.
-
"We are The Borg - We are not stupid. Especially under One of Many, Queen Seven of Nine."
-
Maybe if I get a 25 kill streak, we can purge this thread.
-
This thread would jsut revive itself. We have to chop the head off and replace the eyes with garlic, then bury the head and the body at exactly opposing points of the earth during full moon on a friday 13th.
-
But... if we nuke it, there won't be anything left! Tactical nuke!
Tactical nuke!
-
How tactful.
-
We need some sci-fi weaponry... like a nova bomb, or a death star...
-
How do we do that?
