Title: How do you feel about free music?
Post by: Wasteroo on 15 Mar 2010, 20:03
I already posted this in the Mediaf!re thread, but Jens told me I should start an entirely new topic and if there's one thing I know it's that you should always listen to Jens. I've been working on a solo noise project for a while now and just this weekend I finished collecting 8 tracks into a cohesive album that I think ended up being pretty good! This is not so much noise/experimental music in the style of Animal Collective circa Spirit They've Gone, but more experiments in rhythmic textures and banging the shit out of drums like Wolf Eyes, Black Dice, or the Bastard Noise. It was recorded in its entirety onto a Tascam Portastudio and then mixed down in Audacity.

So download it and tell me what you think!

Free music fills me with an irrational and uncontrollable rage.

I'm going to be so pissed when I download this.

Grin Block is pretty rad.

Listening now and enjoying Laughing Man more than I would have expected (not into noise really).

Edit: Okay this was pretty awesome! Grin Block was probably my favourite track, seriously

I'm thrilled that you guys like it! If the response continues to be this positive I might just send it in to Digitalis (http://www.digitalisindustries.com/) and see what happens

I've been sort of working on a new album over the past month or so, and I finally have a track that I'm really proud of that I think sets the feel I'm aiming for. It's a lot different than what I posted previously. Hopefully there will be more tracks forthcoming!

I've finished an EP! It's a lot less percussion-focused than Didn't Land, but I think quality wise it is a big step up. Also contained in the .zip are a few live demos that I like, but didn't really fit the feel of the album.

edit: download link's not working because Mediafire took down my file for some reason! I'll get it re-upped as soon as I find those original song files, I got a new computer and everything's a little jumbled.

Tell me what you think!

Edit: For those of you who don't want to download for one reason or another, my album is now streaming here (http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/66668).

hey guys, remember my music? there are four brand spanking new tracks streaming here (http://soundcloud.com/comancheclub)

lately my music has been tending more and more towards the harsh noise side of things, so absolutely feel free to not listen to it if that sort of thing is just not your bag. I will however say that Automata is a pretty good soundtrack to a robot apocalypse and was played entirely on a saucepan.

out of curiosity, how do you create this type of music?

lots of sampling, feedback, and contact mics placed on objects that I think could make some kind of interesting noise

Looking back quite a ways I think it's worth mentioning that Digitalis is an awesome label and Brad is a totally cool dude who would quite possibly be into putting something of yours out on cassette. I know he's receptive to releasing things based solely on demos received from random places. Ditto Root Strata in some ways. You should mail him some of this stuff!

Somebody say free music? Here's something a friend and I recorded this summer. I'm not sure what the sound is exactly, Ambient Indie Rock? Ambient Rock? Someone compared it to Explosions in the Sky meets Band of Horses. I can only hear the Explosions part. That guy was high at the time so...

So I've had this poking around since March but fuck, I might as well share it here.

Do you like early R.E.M.? Do you like Mission of Burma? Are you a fan of the post-punx and indie rocks in general? Don't mind middling recording snafus like a yelping voice or flubbed parts that I didn't bother to re-record? You might like this ep! Recorded entirely by myself in March of this year, and became the first five songs that my full band does. Here is hoping you enjoy it! (http://feelinggravityspull.bandcamp.com/)
