This was posted on QC ages and ages and ages ago (maybe two or three years?) and there were all different ones for like, nu-rave kids and metalheads and emos and shit as well. It's weird that this has popped up as a much bigger meme now. (I've seen it posted a whole bunch of other places as well)

YOU'RE ONE OF THEM
-
i approve
-
ahhh living up to stereotypes
-
FUCKIN' STEREOTYPES, HOW DO THEY WORK
-
I suppose you could ask a sociologist but they'd probably just go and get you pissed
-
The thread title lead me to believe Amy was glaswegian.

My hand it itching with the urge to push her ruddy glasses up her ruddy nose.
-
I'm sure i said this last time this video made the rounds but what the fuck is up with her hair?
-
I definitely joke about being really "indie" but god I want to kill this girl so fucking much.
-
By "spend time with" he means <insert punchline here>
-
now now
-
this seems like one of those videos where everyone wants to beat her up for describing exactly who they are.
it kind of reminds me of the marketing scheme (and general idea behind) "500 days of summer," a film that garnered automatic enmity from many of my peers strictly because of the fact that the ad campaign was unabashedly directed solely towards us.
when you get right down to it, everybody's a stereotype, with minor exceptions. i mean, there's a reason stereotypes exist. it's because, for the most part, they're true.
for the record i stopped watching that video after like 3 minutes because it was really, really boring, but it didn't make me want to kill the star, or anyone for that matter.
-
i don't know what you are talking about, there is nothing sad or pathetic at all about grown adults putting down a much younger teenage girl they don't actually know for not being as clever or informed as they are.
now if you'll excuse me i'm going to go head down to the local high school and find some children to compare ipod playlists with and humiliate.
-
GRAHHHHHH she is so annoying. I don't know why I'm even watching it but if she says "indie" one more time I will want to scratch her face.
ARHG THERE SHE GOES AGAIN.
Serious question: how does she know, with absolute confidence, that t-bars and knitwear are "indie"? Who decides? Can I assign them a new quality?

Isn't there a facebook group or something?
-
I would rather spend time with this seemingly harmless young woman than with a whole bunch of people who now post here.
the most hang-outable person in the entire video seems to be her dad, who sounds like a real sweetheart
-
it took me three times to realize she was saying "you've got to read the nme" and not "you've got to read the anime." i thought she was super into manga
-
also before approaching things from this angle

1) when you were 17 would you appreciate being told "oh it's ok you don't know better?" 17 year-old me would probably be offended tbh
2) like jens kind of points out the really funny thing is mostly that this is what the bbc thinks indie is. there's no way her dad isn't friends with one of the producers or something, and he just happened to be like "pete's girl amy is right indie, let's see if she wants to be on Them" and then just wrote down the first five bands with guitars he could think of for the soundtrack and one of them is the kaiser chiefs for god's sake
3) razorlight blows, amy. i'm sorry. they blow so hard
-
her accent is more responsible for me picturing her reading Record of Lodoss War while listening to Razorlight than it is for me hating her. also you'll notice i didn't say she wasn't personable! she's crackin' little jokes all the time, she seems to legitimately enjoy gigging and her favourite restaurant seems pretty cool.
i do want to make note she does and owns a lot of things that are culturally inscribed as "indie" because they're "indie" and "quirky" rather than doing or buying them out of legitimate enjoyment for the actions and things themselves, and that bothers me but it doesn't make me upset at amy. it's more interesting to me - though certainly not news - that, the way she explains it, indie culturally is very much mercenary and spectacular in the guy debord sense, or at least the show's editors and producers are choosing to highlight the mercenary and spectacular side of it. it's all about showing off and having things. if i go into that any more though Khar will swoop in and declare that i'm overthinking a youtube or whatever so i'll leave it at that
-
and it's possible to be 17 and personable and also an obnoxious Indie Person and i know that from experience and because my friends called me out on it? and because people from this forum called me out on it, on the forum? it's silly to get up in arms about this video but it's equally silly to ride to her rescue like there's nothing mildly abrasive about a personality that defines itself by its level of quirk, or - again - like she needs a bunch of people on an internet forum defending her personality or honour or whatever.
EDIT: in fact i'm willing to go on record that the sort of person who works in volumes of quirk is prevalent in regina and it drives me up the fucking wall because all these people ever do is go to "epic-nics" in the park in huge numbers to show off in public how much they can enjoy being carefree alternative people who just authentically dig culture so much and then also only ever go to fucking library voices shows because none of them can figure out how culture works for shit, and none of them ever grow out of being amy. they've been amy for five years straight. i've never seen them at the arthouse cinema, i never saw them at the manhattan room, i've never read any of their blogs, i never see them at the club where bands like WOMEN come all the time, and they never come to the monthly shows by what i can only describe as the local stand-up comedy collective which as a concept is fucking cool as all get-out. i only see them getting drunk at the Thursday Night Indie Rock Dance Party and other Indie Sanctioned Events.
this is the harshest thing i'll say about amy but the fact that a ton of people are like her in regina is one of the main reason these estates play to crowds of the same eight people on a regular basis. all of them are personable enough, sure - but it's egregious that they pass that shit off as being cultured.
-
wait i was pretty convinced this was a spoof?
-
regina certainly feels like one at times
-
I don't know, I actually think that she's personable. She's cute and she likes music and art. She's got her thing, she seems happy with it. I doubt she actually walks around talking about "Indie", that was obviously just for the TV show.
I get the feeling some people just dislike her accent. There's still a lot of subliminal tension between the North and the South in Britain. If she had a proper Oxbridge accent most people probably wouldn't be getting so bizarrely angry about it.
have you even seen her teeth?
-
she says that her band (named Panda Wolf) changes names every few weeks "because that's the indie thing to do" - there is no way Amy is a real person.
Butthole Surfers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butthole_Surfers#Name) did it.
-
have you even seen her teeth?

also, I fail to see the relevance

Did I say all british people everywhere have horrible teeth? nooooooo
-
a) I never said that you said that. I'm not sure why you made up an accusation to respond to.
b) You didn't explain what I was wondering, how her teeth are relevant here.
-
3) rabble rabble

I thought her teeth looked bad? I suppose it isn't really relevant but I never intended it to be.
-
Then I fucked all her friends' girlfriends.
Now they hate her.
I love you a little for this.
-
I think her accent was the only thing that didn't annoy me, it is an accent I grew up with (and wish I had, rather than my own accent which sounds like I'm desperately trying to either a) cover up my Northern accent or b) cover up my RP accent).
I dunnoo. Maybe it is because I am a slightly older teen and we are contractually obliged to hate younger teens?
-
Thanks for posting!
No problem

hey, i agree with you. i laughed pretty hard at this video. amy obviously is very superficial and doesn't really know what she is talking about. i am just saying, there is kind of a big difference between laughing at someone's naïveté and feeling legitimately angry and violent and spiteful toward that person because of it. when it transcends "man amy i dunno, your opinions are pretty dumb" and enters "i want to beat up this stupid bitch so much" it is pretty worrying! especially coming from grown adults who are supposed to sort of be role models for younger generations. if you are getting this angry and violent toward a young girl who doesn't really know better you really need to find some legitimate causes to direct your anger at. like child pornography! or female circumcision. those things are pretty bad.
-
Yeah, you guys are my role models. Don't get so angry over stupid things. Because, that will cause me to get really angry at stupid things.
Thanks!

wait i was pretty convinced this was a spoof?
I dunno, man. I want to believe this, but people are pretty dumb. Like, really, really dumb.
amy obviously is very superficial and doesn't really know what she is talking about.
This is what made me pause the video about 30 secs to a minute in and just cock my head to the side a bit, then close the window and walk away. I figure that there's a lot of "indie" kids out there who act like this, or at least in some remarkably similar facsimile thereof. I don't even feel angry at her really, it's more the idea that someone's put her on TV as an example of what "being an indie" is all about. I should probably have expected that a tv show all about putting people into neat little pigeonholes would be a crock of shit, huh? So if anything, I guess that's my bad.
As a special pagebreak gift to you I have (ab)used my powers to retrieve and show you an e-postcard Amy sent to Tommy a while back.

You know I met a girl that liked all the same bands as me but she looked like a normal girl so I never talked to her again.
-
My girlfriend can have pretty questionable taste sometimes but she also has a FUCKING MOHAWK so I love her forever

what's a girl

a kind of indie
