Hi guys. I'm not even sure if I've posted before but I already had an account, and I was just re-reading the entire archives again and noticed something.
About strip 700 I was like "huh I don't think I've seen a single cell phone in here." and then I just got to strip 910 where Hannelore gets a phone call from her mom after band practice and I think that it took Jeph 910 strips to draw one in use and prior to that they were only mentioned once before in reference to how they were living in "the Future".
I think that's pretty rad.

Marten uses his from time to time, like (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=215) here (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=402), as (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=432) do (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=12) various (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1152) other (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=172) characters (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=1264).
-
Oh dang I didn't notice Marten's mother and Faye's sister, and I always assumed those first couple of ones were just house phones.
-
I get the impression that the young these days don't do house phones, even radio ones...
-
I would if I had one!
-
Faye's appeared early on, getting worried calls from her mother.
EDIT: cell phones in 12, 171, 173, 296, 355. That's the early ones, which I gather is what you're asking about, so 1152 and 1377 don't count.
There may be others but if I dug them out then people would realize I'm a nerd.
-
I'd assume they have smartphones, too, since practically everyone (except Angus) has a Twitter account.
-
Not only that, all the characters's tweets recently say they're from Twitter for iPhone.
-

Too late! :-D
-
Ssh! It's a secret.
-
Not only that, all the characters's tweets recently say they're from Twitter for iPhone.
Er, I was thinking that was because Jeph has an IPhone. Unless you can edit that, and he's taken the trouble.
-
Well, that's the real life explanation, of course, but the "pretend it's a documentary" explanation is usually more fun.
-
My apologies for intruding reality upon the dream.
-
If we can apply suspension of disbelief to the contents of the tweets, why not to the origin line?
Except the origin line has time and date stamps on it which are inconsistent with comic time. So I guess we have to treat them as part of our reality rather than the comic's world.

There's comic time to be consistent with?
-
What is time?
-
Inside a black hole, time and space change places (http://www.aei.mpg.de/einsteinOnline/en/spotlights/changing_places/index.html).
-
Time, time, time... see what's become of me?
-
Time: I've heard it makes lovers feel like they got something real. It also enables one to realize one's crime. These may be related.
-
What is time?
Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so42
-
Time?
Cannot run out of time!
-
Time is the universe's way of keeping everything from happening at once.
-
At which it is only partly successful. Sure, it keeps most things from happening at once, but it doesn't manage to prevent my kettle reaching boil, my toast starting to burn, and my sister calling all in the same instant (for the record, the toast was a loss).

You are such a luddite... My kettle turns itself off after boiling, my toaster pops automatically, and my phone has hands-free*. "My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5P8Zdjw87Yw)
*Not to mention voice-mail.
-
Personaly, I'm a closet luddite.
It's getting harder to find that ringtone, too...

This is my tenth post or so, but I had to log in to ask: HOW THE HELL did you make that post? I know there's a QC search, but you can't just search cell phone if it's not in the text, right?... Did you actually go through all of them?
-
Commit all the strips to memory, you must, young Jedi.
-
Nah, seriously. How do you DO that?
...you don't actually have them memorized ...right?
-
Wouldn't like to say...
The search includes some descriptions, so a search for "phone" gets several; but also memory helps, which is how I missed a couple.
-
I tend to agree that memory is the usual way. However, I do have a little database of strips, and if I can remember "about" when something happened, I can look though the strips to find the one I want.
-
Damn, you guys are insane!
Note that I say that out of great respect for your intimate QC knowledge, and not at all to be slanderous.
-
In case you didn't know, CelticGeek is the Perfect Master of the archives.
Insane? I'm perfectly sane. All the doctors said so eventually.
-
Really? How'd you get 'em to do that? Because I've got an appointment coming up, and I could use some tips.
Things I already know:
Don't drool unnecessarily.
Don't yell "Butts LOL!" for no clear reason.
Don't claim to base my ethics on WWMD (What would Marten do?).
Don't admit my ethics are based on WWPSD (What would Pintsize do?).
To portray my involvement with the Internets to be a vaguely amusing pastime.
To claim total ignorance of 4chan and any 'rules.' (note: not particularly difficult for me)
Not to ask my doctor if we should make a yarn-chart of my relationships.
-
Don't use your doctor for SCIENCE.

You may want to talk with the doctor about things that happen to you in real life.
If you're like me and have trouble telling the difference, just remember the nice young men in the clean white coats are there to help you.
-

Oh, don't tease the young Jedi.
Try here. (http://scr.bi/d0ElP1) I believe I'm only gonna update it every other month. If you're REALLY nice (and ask nicely in PM), I could e-mail you the DOC version.
EDIT: Oh, by the way, there IS a discrepancy at strip 1541. It's not my fault.
-
I would have passed along my copy, but I figured that you would have a more-up-to-date one.
And besides, teasing the young Jedi is one of the few things old Jedi can do for fun.
-
Since we're apparently not going to get a "transcribe this strip" link again, would there be interest in a wiki of strip summaries/transcripts/commentaries?
-
There might be. The freaking Meek has a wiki—why not us?

Real-schmeal. No one would believe what happens to me in real life. And I thought those guys were there to sell me ice cream.

Your Kung Fu is strong.

Damn, you guys are insane!
Says the guy who has a pet name for his sled...
-
That wasn't a pet name, it was a brand name...
although I always preferred the inevitable extension of the reporter's guess that it was a petname for a part of his mistress' anatomy.
-
Hey, no fair spoiling my joke with facts 'n' stuff, Mean-E!
<ponders>
Says the guy who died alone* in a cavernous mansion overflowing with possessions compulsively hoarded in a manner indicative of a seriously obsessive personality.
*apart from his butler, of course.
-
*Hands Binary a shovel to bury that dead joke*

Dead joke's dying words: "Rosebud..."

Turns out there was a wiki once of QC episodes, the "QC Annotation Project" hosted at inhumandecency.org, now 404'd. I've written to the creator asking about reviving it.
Meantime, there's a small wiki at http://questionablecontent.wikia.com/wiki/Questionable_Content_Wiki which doesn't have strip transcripts or much else yet.
-
By the bye: Our intrepid artist couldn't quite remember ever drawing himself into the strip. Had to remind him of at least a couple of "those two people look a LOT like you and Cristi" moments:
http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=543 (In the background of first panel)
http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=655 (Possibly the first couple who asked for a Frappucino)
http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1389 (It looks like Jeph is on the far left, next to Faye, while Cristi is smiling between Hanners and Angus - though those might be friends of his)
Anyone else?
-
I'm pretty sure those have been identified as other people (if at all). But I reckon this shop guy (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=717) looks pretty like Jeph.
-
Couldn't remember the booze strip, thanks.

Naah, that's me.

I can tell you, for sure, that the two people in the background of panel 1 are supposed to be Dave and Helen from Shaenon Garrity's Narbonic: http://www.narbonic.com/ (http://www.narbonic.com/) Which is a funny strip about a mad scientist (Helen Narbon), though it ended it 2006 and Shaenon is doing other things now.
As to the other strips, I dunno. I think he's drawn himself as himself before, just not really in QC-land. If I think of an instance contradicting this, I'll find and post it.
